[HP] Riddle's Spirit Behind

Chapter 024 The Orphanage

Tom came up the steps and knocked hard on the door.Soon the door opened from the inside.A small boy opened the door.He was wearing a faded, baggy shirt that was all wrinkled and looked as if it hadn't been ironed in a long time.

The moment he saw Tom, he immediately opened his eyes wide, "—it's you."

He took a half step back, then turned and staggered forward, screaming, "He's back! He's back!"

"My God, Billy! Don't shout!" A thin woman in an apron entered the hall.As soon as she stepped into the hall, she stopped immediately and said in surprise, "Tom?"

"Yes, I'm back." Tom's tone was cold, but still polite. "How are you doing, Mrs. Cole?"

The woman's eyes widened in astonishment, as if Tom had just said something incredible. After a while, she said hoarsely: "Come in quickly, don't block the door."

Tom walked obediently through the door.He walked straight to Mrs. Cole, raised his head and said, "My room shouldn't have changed, Mrs. Cole?"

"Of course." Mrs. Cole replied, her eyes still fixed on Tom, as if trying to read something from his behavior. Her lips moved, "...you have grown taller. It seems that the school treated you well."

"Yes." Tom replied, "I like that school very much."

"They seem to have taught you well... at least you know etiquette." Mrs. Cole muttered to herself, and at the same time forced a tired smile on her face, but the smile disappeared quickly.

"Go back to your own room," she said. "I'm busy right now, and I have a lot of sheets to wash. If you have nothing else to do, just stay in your room."

"Yes, I see." Tom replied obediently. After he finished speaking, he turned and walked up the stairs.

"It looks pretty good here." Eleanor commented as she walked up the stairs.

Before, Eleanor had always imagined the orphanage as a dirty and dark place, and the manager of the orphanage was imagined by her as a woman who didn't care about children at all and had a vicious heart.

But here it was far beyond her expectations.

Although the exterior looked dilapidated, the ground and walls were clean, and there was hardly a trace of dirt. There are also some black and white photos of the children hanging on the wall. Judging from the background, they seem to be taken during an outing.

Although Mrs. Cole doesn't look very flattering, she is definitely much better than Eleanor imagined.

"You seem to have mentioned that Mrs. Cole just now," she said, "but I don't think she looks like a bad person."

Tom snorted coldly, "Bad guy? She's just a stupid Muggle."

They came to the third floor and stopped in front of the original door.Tom pushed the door open and walked in.

It was a very, very simple room with nothing but a bed, a wardrobe, and a wooden table.

"It's like a prison here." Eleanor bluntly expressed her feelings, "The detention rooms in the police station are more luxurious than here."

She floated around the room, looked at Tom who was bending over to take out the textbook from the luggage bag, and said, "You really didn't grow up here, did you?"

Tom threw a few books on the table heavily, and said without raising his head, "Of course."

Eleanor looked out the window, thinking she could see the scenery on the street, but she could only see the cold gray walls of the opposite building.

This room is full of oppressive and gloomy atmosphere, it seems that even sunlight is unwilling to visit here.

A child's cry and Mrs. Cole's furious cursing could be heard faintly through the door.

Even Slytherin's basement was more alive than this.thought Eleanor. At least it is warm in winter and cool in summer, and it is always full of laughter and laughter from students.

"I retract my foreword." Eleanor sighed, "This is such a terrible place. It's hard for me to imagine how you have lived here for more than ten years."

Eleanor was then startled to see Tom juggle the pet snake from the trunk.

"You even brought it back." Eleanor grumbled dissatisfiedly, then subconsciously moved away from the snake.

A smile appeared on the corner of Tom's mouth, and he put the snake on the bed.The snake raised its head and hissed at Eleanor.

"Snakes can't see ghosts, right?" Eleanor said a little nervously.Just looking at the snake from afar was enough to give her goosebumps.

"No, she can see you. She said she was greeting you." Tom narrowed his eyes slightly and said with a malicious smile, "It seems that Nagini likes you very much."

"You even gave it a name," said Eleanor in amazement.

Tom lowered his head and stroked the snake's body tenderly, then whispered something to it in snake language.

At dinner, he even sneaked a raw egg from the kitchen to feed the snake.

"I really don't understand what's so good about such a cold creature - I still like small furry animals." Eleanor muttered.

Eleanor passed a few tedious weeks that followed.Boring days always seemed very long, and she spent almost every day counting them.Tom had circled the start of school days on the calendar, so it was obvious that he was also looking forward to getting out of here sooner.

None of the other children in the orphanage seemed willing to be near Tom.Several children seemed to be particularly afraid of him, and they would nervously walk away from him every time they met them in the corridor.

Of course, Mrs. Cole would not chat with Tom, she was so busy almost every day that she couldn't spare any energy to talk to any of the children.

At last Eleanor couldn't bear this boring life.

One morning, she looked out the window at the bright sunshine that never seemed to come in, "I have an idea, why don't we go for a walk?"

Nonchalantly, Tom turned to the next page in his Potions book.

"I think there should be many interesting places in London." Eleanor said again, "I have long wanted to see Buckingham Palace, and of course, Tower Bridge and Big Ben. By the way, I heard that Windsor Castle often visits Haunted, do you think that's real?"

Tom scratched heavily on the parchment, and said coldly: "I just know that my room is haunted now. Can you shut up and be quiet for a while?"

"No," said Eleanor, "unless you let us go for a walk."

"That's impossible," said Tom.

Eleanor sighed, and lay down on Tom's bed, or rather, floated over it.She began to count the number of planks on the ceiling, but even this did not bring her to sleep.

If she could, she really wanted to fall asleep like this and wake up until the day when school started.

As usual, she began to pass the time by thinking about past events. She is always afraid that one day she will forget everything about her life, because many memories have begun to become blurred. For example, she couldn't remember whether Mrs. Green's vegetable garden had lettuce, or even what the neighbor who lived across the way was last.

Not long after, a regular knocking sound caught Eleanor's attention.

She followed the sound and saw a brown owl flapping its wings outside the window while pecking at the window.

She suddenly regained her spirits and sat up suddenly from the bed.

Tom opened the window and let the owl fly in.It turned out that it was here to deliver the next school year's book list.

After reading the list of books, Tom threw the paper aside and took some Galleons from the locked drawer.

"Are you going out?" Eleanor said, looking at him eagerly.

Tom glanced at her and said dryly, "Of course. I'm going to Diagon Alley to buy books."

"Diagon Alley!" Eleanor exclaimed in surprise, "I've heard of it a long time ago. It's a shopping street for wizards, right?"
