Chapter 20 O and D
Harry was back in the common room again around midnight. He had thought it would be as empty as yesterday, but today he saw Ron and Hermione.
"Ah, Harry, you're back." Ron's eyes were flushed from exhaustion, and a hill of waste paper was piled up at his feet. It was obvious that the homework was not solved smoothly.
Harry nodded, carefully avoiding Ron's gaze.
Hermione was smoothing Crookshanks by the fireplace when she turned her head. "Where were you this afternoon, Harry?" she asked suspiciously. "I didn't see you in the library?"
"I'm in the library." Harry lied, "I didn't see you either, maybe I missed it."
"Really?" Hermione was still skeptical, "In the past few days, you have often disappeared... What are you busy with? Or are you avoiding us?"
"Stop kidding, Hermione," the rough-headed Ron didn't notice anything wrong, and grinned, "Why is Harry avoiding us?"
While it was true that Harry was avoiding them—everyone he could, to be exact—he couldn't admit it at this point. "Of course not," he thanked Ron in his heart for his help, "it's just that there's too much homework, and I want to find a quiet place."
"Oh?" Hermione raised her eyebrows, "So, you finished writing? That's much better than Ron."
Ron's eyes lit up when he heard that, and he didn't care what Hermione said - he and Harry insisted on attending Quidditch training yesterday, leaving her advice about homework behind, and it was normal for her to be irritated. "Lend me your astronomy papers, Harry! I can't keep track of all those moons!"
Seeing that Harry really took out the parchment full of words, Hermione's expression finally relaxed a little. She walked up to Ron, as if intending to read Harry's paper. But before that, she noticed the long-eared owl outside the window.
It's Percy's.He told Ron in the letter that Harry had paranoia and violent tendencies, and persuaded Ron to cut off relations with Harry, and it was best to report Harry to Umbridge.
Harry had known for a long time that the situation was dire. Most Hogwarts students were no better off than Seamus, if not questioning him to his face the way Seamus was.But he didn't think Percy would, after all...
"Give me back the letter," said Ron, frowning, the letter was torn in half as soon as it reached him, "Percy is—" Four halves, "the biggest in the world—" Eight halves, "Fool !” He threw the shards into the fireplace in a huff.
Hermione looked at Ron with a strange expression. "Give me your paper," she said suddenly, "and I'll take a look."
"Great, Hermione, you are my savior." Ron breathed a sigh of relief, and immediately collapsed on the back of the chair.Hermione's "take a look" means that she will help proofread and finish writing, which is a good thing to ask for.
"Thanks, Hermione," said Harry, "and you, Ron."
Ron obviously wasn't expecting this, for he panicked. "Why, Harry, you don't think I'm not on your side?"
Harry shook his head immediately.Relieved, Ron started yawning again. And Harry looked at them, strengthening his determination to protect his friends. He had to stop Voldemort, no matter how difficult it was...
The next day, another bad Monday. At the breakfast table, Hermione took the "Daily Prophet" that had just been delivered, and read word by word the news that Umbridge had been appointed as the senior prosecutor of Hogwarts.
"She can check the courses of other professors, and has the right to appoint and dismiss teachers? Are you kidding?" Harry almost choked in his throat after taking a bite of the maple syrup pancake.
Ron basically agrees, but he has another point: "If she checks Professor McGonagall's class, then we're in for a treat."
However, they only have Transfiguration on Tuesdays.Umbridge didn't show up for History of Magic and Potions class in the morning. The only thing to mention is that Snape gave Harry a "D" (dreadful, dreadful) in his moonstone analysis paper, so much so that he had to find ways to cover it up.And the divination class in the afternoon may be the tragedy of Professor Trelawney.Umbridge's apparent disbelief in chattering almost drove her to tears.
On the way from the Divination classroom to the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom, the students were chattering about how much Umbridge had scored Trelawney.Hermione seized this moment to warn Harry: "Don't mess with Umbridge again, it won't do you any good."
Ron didn't quite agree, but he had to. "As much as Umbridge is a nuisance, it's not worth incarcerating for her. Don't you, buddy?" he asked Harry for advice.
Harry opened his mouth, feeling a lump in his throat.None of them knew that he was being locked up by Umbridge, and the real unlucky one must be Umbridge himself-joke, does she look like someone who can stand up to the Dark Lord? Not to mention bad things have already happened!
"...I see." He finally said, his tone dry.No one deserved to be hit by the Unforgivable Curse; he had to restrain himself from letting Voldemort get in.
Facts have proved that Hermione's reminder came well prepared.During class, Umbridge made them read again. She raised her hand and asked a few prepared questions about actual combat exercises, which Umbridge, of course, denied.
"Practical practice? Why do you need practical practice? You are in Hogwarts, and the Ministry of Magic is responsible for the security outside. Learning defense theory is enough!"
Had it been the other way around, Harry would have jumped up and retorted that Hogwarts didn't mean it was absolutely safe when Voldemort once entered the school behind Quirrell's head. But he couldn't say it.Not only because Umbridge was being attacked without her knowing, but also because of the big secrets he was hiding—
In Hogwarts now, what could be more dangerous than him?
The feeling weighed heavily on Harry's stomach, and he simply couldn't and wasn't in the mood to confront Umbridge.
"You are more restrained than I thought, Harry." After class, Hermione rarely praised Harry. "Professor McGonagall will be delighted."
"Yeah," Ron chimed in, "think about Quidditch! We can train together!"
"Speaking of which," Hermione said again, very confident, "I think your astronomy paper will definitely get an 'O (outstanding, excellent)', it must. It was too late yesterday, so I didn't mention it."
The conclusion horrified Harry and Ron together. "'O'?" Ron yelled, in disbelief.
All the people around looked sideways, and Harry hurriedly motioned Ron to keep his voice down. "Stop joking, Hermione." He lowered his voice, "It's you and not me!"
"What's the joke?" Hermione was a little annoyed, "After reading your thesis, I realized that I missed several points!"
At this, Ron began to look at Harry in awe. "You found something Hermione didn't notice? How did you do it?"
Harry opened his mouth. What do you want him to say?He somehow awakened a diadem-looking diadem that seemed to have been learned from the past and the present, and the words it spoke had powerful correction spells and writing spells? "……I don't know either."
This answer obviously does not satisfy anyone. In order to avoid further questioning, Harry grabbed some food as soon as he arrived at the auditorium, and announced before running away that he was going to the library.
The remaining two looked at each other.
"Harry is going to the library again?" Ron's expression was more surprised than when he heard Harry would get an "O". "Are you finally attached to him, Hermione?"
"Of course not." Hermione rolled her eyes helplessly, "Although I really want to know how he wrote it, but..." She frowned and asked, "Do you think he is hiding from us now?"
Ron watched Harry's back disappear outside the auditorium door, shrugged: "I don't know, but he must be hiding something from us."
Ten minutes later, Harry was standing in the Requirement Room, glaring at the diadem with the sternest gaze he could possibly have. "What about my thesis?"
Diadem grunted slightly, like a lazy yawn. "What's going on? Don't tell me, someone can find fault."
This damned self-confidence... Harry held his breath. "No."
"Isn't that good?" Guan Mian really yawned this time.
"It's not good at all," Harry said a little annoyed. "It's too eye-catching. If I knew it would turn out like this, I shouldn't have agreed to let you change my thesis!"
If the crown had eyebrows, it must have been raised above the hairline by now. "Are you serious? 'D' is better than 'O'?"
Harry was taken aback. "How did you know I got a 'D'?" he said as he checked himself, and found that the Potions paper was stubbornly protruding from his loosely packed bag, a sharp black D that stood out. "Damn it," he cursed embarrassingly, "it must have been misplaced just now..."
"Nightmare score." Guan Guan commented without losing the opportunity, "No, it should be said that I didn't have it in my deepest nightmare."
"Yes, I think you must be all 'O'!" Harry said angrily, feeling that the other party was definitely laughing at him.The next second, he thought of something else, "Can you still dream?"
Crown casually said, "Occasionally."
Harry stared at it suspiciously.Perhaps the Diadem of Wisdom and Learning might indeed exist, but he had never heard of any magical device capable of dreaming. "You know what?" he said researchingly, "you sound human."
"Maybe I used to be." Crown neither admitted nor denied.
This made Harry even more suspicious. He scrutinized the diadem again, and suddenly saw what he should have seen in the first place—an eagle with wings spread, like the coat of arms of Ravenclaw. "What's your relationship with Ravenclaw?"
Crown seemed to be smiling. "I also wonder, when will you realize this."
Harry's shock overflowed uncontrollably.Does the diadem imply that he is a descendant of Ravenclaw?
