Li Xueyue arrived home in time to say goodnight to the Duchess and then retired to her room, where she was immediately given a hot bath with ylang-ylang oil and jasmine petals floating on the water.

As she poked at the petals idly and let the maid clean her hair, she heard a sharp inhale.

"My, my lady, you are back!" the maid cried.

"What happened?" Li Xueyue sat up straight in the huge bathtub and asked.

"You have minor bruising on your upper back."

Li Xueyue cursed inwardly. It must have been caused by Wen Jinkai hitting the tree. "Ignore it."

"Does it hurt? We can call a doctor right away so there's no permanent damage."

"No, it's okay." Li Xueyue said calmly, turning her head and staring at the maid. "Don't mention this to anyone. Do you understand?"

The maid nodded immediately, but she was worried about her master. "Yes, it's not possible for the master and the mistress too?"

"Especially the Duchess," Li Xueyue said angrily, "and the twins, do you understand?"

Her character was hesitant and awkward before she nodded. "Y-yeah, I understand."

Li Xueyue nodded and asked the maid to continue cleaning her hair. After she was done, her wet hair was wiped dry with a towel, but when she resigned from the maid, her hair was still wet and hung on her shoulders.

It had been an exhausting day and she couldn't wait for it to be over. She went to her large dressing table and pulled out a quill, ink pot, and half of her book, deciding now was a good time to start making another plan.

"What should I do..." she said to herself.

Unfortunately, she had no thoughts tonight. Her fingers were tightly clenched around the ink-soaked quill, but she didn't move. There were some tiny ink marks on her fingertips, left by holding the quill for too long.

She decided to go somewhere else to clear her mind.

Li Xueyue was wearing a loose and thin nightgown, sitting on the small sofa just below the round window. She leaned her cheek against the windowsill and looked up at the night sky, which was infinitely beautiful, yet out of reach and desolate.

"The moon is beautiful tonight." She didn't say it to anyone.

She didn't know how many times she had sat by the window staring into space, pondering her next move. She had humiliated the Bai family today, but that wasn't enough for her. She wanted more. The greed for revenge consumed her, and she feared that if she left no stone unturned in destroying them, she would be headed for destruction.

"What should I do?" Li Xueyue muttered to herself as she traced her fingers on the windowsill. She didn't realize she was writing until the ink under her fingertips scribbled "Commander". She stopped before the name actually formed. Deep down, she knew which name she would write down - the one that gave her sound advice.

She screamed as something flew in through the window. Her heart raced as she looked at the object that had fallen to the floor. A pebble. What the hell?

She heard a curse and looked down. To her horror and surprise, it was a man. She stood up suddenly, and the pillow beside her fell down.

Li Xueyue turned around and began to fumble with the way to fasten her pajamas so that she wouldn't scream and call the guards.

"Snow Moon?"

Her shaking fingers paused at the familiar voice. "Oh, yes, I'll definitely have to call the guards," she thought to herself, rushing to the other side of the room.

"Don't call the guards." Wen Jinkai requested.

Li Xueyue turned around. To her horror, he had quickly climbed onto her windowsill effortlessly. There he was, hanging in her favorite spot, with an awkward smile on his face.

"May I come in?"

"Do I have a choice?" Li Xueyue growled, hugged herself with both hands, and prayed that the pajamas were not too thin. She didn't like thick pajamas - they would be too suffocating if she wore them for a long time.

"Well, I might fall out of here and hit my head."

"I'd rather you fall, hit your head, and have your skull split open." Li Xueyue was furious and hugged herself, with a hint of apology in her eyes. She thought he would be angered by her words, but he was the least angry.

"I'm here to give you a present." He lifted his lower body easily and sat on her windowsill, his legs dangling comfortably over it. He was careful not to stain her seat.

"I don't want it. I don't want anything from you." Li Xueyue shook her head and pointed to the window she had climbed in through easily. "There are guards downstairs, right by the wall. How did you avoid them?"

Wen Jinkai smiled. "Is that a problem?" he asked, furrowing his perfect eyebrows. "I'm not a showman commander, Xiaolu."

Wen Jinkai reached into his pocket and handed her a small white porcelain jar painted with blue watercolor.

"Little deer, come closer, I won't hurt you."

“What is that?” Li Xueyue did not move from her position. She preferred this safe distance between them. She was near the door, and it was very easy to notify the guards outside.

"It's a salve for wounds."

"So you know."

"of?"

"You hurt me." Li Xueyue said sternly.

"I didn't mean it." Wen Jinkai's cold face softened because of her. His proud shoulders were slightly hunched, almost defenseless. His eyes were full of regret, even though he had just knocked down five guards by himself.

"It won't happen again, I promise."

“You’ll never keep this promise.” Li Xueyue’s voice was soft, soothing his frantic heart. He couldn’t read her. She was too defensive tonight, and her walls were higher than ever.

"Xueyue, I will--"

"No, you won't." Her tone became harsher. "You have a terrible temper. It blinds you to reality."

"I'll take control."

Li Xueyue hurriedly shook her head, asking him to worry about her neck. She might be whipped.

She said angrily, "I don't believe you."

He frowned. "I swear, I'll never hurt you again, fawn. Please, I'm just trying to help."

Li Xueyue wished she had never experienced that feeling of déjà vu that came over her like a violent wave. Zheng Leiyu had once said the same thing to her. When he stole her first kiss, he swore he would never hurt her. Now, look what he had done to her.

The pain of his betrayal had gone beyond the surface. It had left a permanent scar on her heart, reminding her that the faster her heart beat for another man, the faster she was running to death's door.

Years of suppressed frustration and the pain of betrayal began to surface. Memories of their innocent youth flashed through her mind. Their first kiss in the garden, his gentle touch of her head, his arms, everything that reminded her of him rolled back to her before she could stop it.

She shook her head again. "Get out."

"Xiaolu, please," Wen Jinkai pleaded as he tiptoed into the room, his shoes narrowly avoiding the plush seat. When his feet touched her floor, she panicked.

"I'm serious, Wen Jinkai."

"Snow Moon——"

"I look down on you."

He froze. She always surprised him in ways that drove him crazy. "Why?"

"I hate seeing you, it reminds me of a feeling I'm trying so hard to forget." The words fell out of her mouth before she could control them.

Despite being slapped by the fact that she fell in love with another man, Wen Jinkai persuaded himself to stay calm. She had developed feelings for another man before him. This was a stupid reason to be depressed. The past is the past. Which girl has not been in love?

"You cross too many lines. To you, 'no' means 'yes', and you never respect my wishes. I can never trust someone like you." Li Xueyue ignored his dangerous personality, which was too manic for her to accurately locate.

Wen Jinkai placed the small jar on the windowsill. "Let me help you, little deer." His calm voice had a soothing magic, beckoning her forward. His eyes were full of understanding and compassion.

"I will help you forget the pain," he said, holding out his hand to her. "Come here."

Without warning, she felt a thunderbolt hit her. Maybe she had seen too much, but she suddenly realized something.

He had the power to make everything his. This was her room, but he acted like she was an intruder. This was supposed to be her territory, but he still bossed her around. He crossed her boundaries, not because he wanted to, but because he could.
