Reborn Daughter: The Young Lady Wants to Make a Trouble
Chapter 265 Defeat a Bear
"You must be mentally prepared for today's court session." Lord Li Chenyang instructed as he got on the carriage.
Li Chenyang followed his father into the carriage. To say he wasn't nervous would be an understatement. Today would be busier than usual. Until now, he had no idea who was alive or dead.
"We have eliminated many of the heirs to the throne before us." Li Chenyanggong responded. "Specifically, the royal family is dead, the biggest obstacle has been solved, but the other princes..."
"What about the concubines?" Li Chenyang asked even though he knew the answer. The Li family did not indulge in meaningless deaths.
"Those who do not pose a threat to us are not targeted. Their fate is up to them."
"Which prince or princess is still alive?"
"Second Prince, Fourth Prince, fortunately." Prince Li Chenyang said calmly. His face was as cold as ever. There was an iron wall hidden in his eyes, indestructible.
Although Li Chenyang grew up with his father, he never gained the ability to transcend the mask. Li Chenyang didn't know whether his father was really calm.
"Mother is a princess," Li Chenyang said. "This doesn't give us a chance to seize the throne, but we will have ministers on our side. With enough allies, we can seize the throne if we want."
"That should be the case." Prince Li Chenyang said. "The fourth prince was seriously injured in the battle. His current condition is unknown, but he will report to me today."
Li Chenyang nodded. "The Second Prince has always been weak and sickly. No minister will support his rule, except for those greedy people who want to rule through him."
"People like Baron Han would jump on the Second Prince's carriage without hesitation." Prince Li Chenyang said in a low voice. "Fortunately, there is Marquis Ning to suppress the other party. Baron Han belongs to that faction."
Li Chenyang nodded slowly. "When the emperor's dirty deeds are exposed, we will cancel all support for the royal family."
"Yes, we haven't used our trump card yet." Li Chenyang nodded. A cunning smile slowly appeared on his face.
"I can't wait for the backstabbing and conspiracy to begin," Li Chenyang commented. He glanced out the window and watched the capital roll by him. Today, people wore dark clothes, ready to mourn the death of a royal family member.
"I would like to have a public execution, it would be more interesting and satisfying, but people will say we are cruel." Li Chenyang sighed.
His eyes lingered on the black and white mourning flag. "The generations here have become accustomed to the Wang family, believing that they have done so many good things. It would be great if the common people knew that it was actually us who created such a good environment for them."
King Li Chenyang chuckled. "We'll change that in the history books. Don't worry, son."
"History is always written by the victors." Li Chenyang muttered.
Li Xueyue was awakened from her nap by a knock on the door. She sat up and complained in a low voice. It took her a long time to fall asleep, but she was soon disrupted.
"Come in," she said.
The door opened, revealing a doctor and his apprentice.
Li Xueyue noticed that the Duchess and Li Wenmin were not present, but chose not to comment. She knew that Wenmin was on her way to the training camp and the Duchess was probably busy making lunch.
"Welcome." Li Xueyue said as she climbed out of bed. The servant came forward and drew the curtain, and hurriedly prepared to welcome the guests. In less than a minute, she changed her outer clothes into more respectable clothes.
"It's nice to meet your acquaintance, Princess Li," said the Doctor.
Li Xueyue nodded with a polite smile.
"My name is Doctor Mo, and this is my apprentice. Please don't mind. He is still in the training stage." Doctor Mo said again.
Li Xueyue's eyes fell on the young man next to the doctor. His appearance was not special, but she could see that he was very popular with ordinary ladies. His easy-going smile calmed her nervous mood. This man reminded her of Yu Zhen.
"Please take a seat. I'll take your pulse and make a diagnosis." Dr. Mo said.
Li Xueyue sat down in a chair on the other side of the room, near the main table. She watched as Dr. Mo took out a velvet pulse pad. He motioned for her to place her wrist on it.
"If I may," he said, nodding toward her hand.
Li Xueyue put her hand on the thing, and the servant rolled up her sleeves. Doctor Mo placed two old fingers on her pulse and began to check quietly.
"I heard that Princess Li, you have trouble sleeping." Doctor Mo said. His voice reminded her of a kind grandfather who liked to take care of the children in the village.
"Yes, I would be very grateful if you could prescribe some nourishing herbs for me." Li Xueyue said.
"Princess Li, how long has this problem lasted?" Dr. Mo asked.
Li Xueyue's eyes fell on the maids. They immediately understood what she meant and left the room. The door behind them closed, and only three people were left in the room.
Li Xueyue's attention returned to the doctor. "It's been almost three years. Whenever I try to sleep, I have an uneasy feeling. Sometimes I can't sleep all night. It's as if my mind is afraid to close my eyes."
"Do you have nightmares too?"
Li Xueyue nodded.
"I see." Dr. Mo whispered. "What are these nightmares about? Maybe we can get to the root of the problem."
"No need." Li Xueyue said with a wry smile.
Li Xueyue didn’t want to make the Li family worry anymore. There was no doubt that Dr. Mo would report to them. Besides, she was reluctant to reveal something so private. She had never told anyone about the things that bothered her sleep. She intended to keep it that way.
"Very good," Dr. Mo replied. His voice was full of patient understanding. "Ayi, hand me the box."
The apprentice came forward with a polished box with blue and silver designs on it. He opened the box and began to remove the various herbs in bags. Dr. Mo began to rummage through the small paper bags.
The apprentice took out a balance scale. Dr. Mo started mixing the bags together.
"How strong are these tonics?" Li Xueyue asked.
"Your problem seems to be quite serious, but considering your age, the medicine I prepared is not as strong as that for the elderly." Doctor Mo said as he placed the prepared ointment on the paper. He signaled his apprentice to finish the matter.
"In addition to the medicine you are going to give me, can you make me a stronger medicine?" Li Xueyue asked. "What if the milder one doesn't work well?"
Dr. Mo was a little hesitant about her request. "I can, but if you start taking a stronger one, over time your body will develop a resistance to the herbs and they will become ineffective."
"It's okay. I plan to start with a mild one. I won't take stronger medication unless it's absolutely necessary," Li Xueyue explained.
Dr. Mo raised his head, looked at the girl, and then looked away. He knew that it was disrespectful to look at someone who was obviously higher than him. In this case, age was not important.
But the apprentice had forgotten such a rule. He looked up from the package of herbs, unable to take his eyes off her. He had heard rumors about the new Third Rank Princess on the streets, but he had never expected her to be so... beautiful. This was a refreshing way to make all the women he knew pale in comparison.
"Okay then," Dr. Mo replied. "I'll make you a stronger drug. One drop will put you to sleep within an hour, two drops will put you to sleep within thirty minutes. Three drops will be strong enough to knock out a bear."
Doctor Mo started to sort the herbs again. "Ayi." Seeing his apprentice showing respect to the young lady, he said sternly.
Ayi was startled and immediately looked away. She was so charming, but there was something about her that made people feel uncomfortable. Why did she need such a strong medicine? A milder one would be more effective.
Li Xueyue saw the confusion on her apprentice's face. She stood up and moved closer to her vanity as the doctor prepared the mixture. A second later, she returned with something between her fingers.
The doctor placed the neatly wrapped herbs on a polished wooden tray. In his line of work, he had seen many wealthy nobles, but he had never expected the Li family to be so wealthy. Even a simple wooden tray was inlaid with gems. He could tell that this girl was the darling of the family.
"The first medicine is more suitable for you. I will boil the hard medicine and soak the softened medicine. Princess Li should drink it one hour before going to bed." Doctor Mo ordered.
Next, he searched carefully in the wooden box, looking for a small bottle. "Princess Li is lucky. I found rare medicinal herbs last week and brewed this medicine."
Li Xueyue watched him take out a small bottle from a dark glass bottle.
"But you have to be careful with this medicine. Taking too much can kill you."
"Is it bitter?" Li Xueyue asked. "I don't like this taste."
"Don't worry, Princess Li." Doctor Mo said with a smile. "It has almost no taste, but it does have color due to the herbs used in it."
Li Xueyue smiled in response. Perfect. "Thank you, Dr. Mo, for your hard work," she said, taking the bottle handed to her with both hands.
Li Xueyue took the bottle and stroked his old skin. When he touched a cloth bag, his eyebrows raised slightly. Other than that, he had no reaction and accepted this generous gift.
Li Xueyue held the small bottle between her fingers and stuffed it into her sleeve.
"Thank you, Princess Li, for your patronage." Doctor Mo smiled and stood up. He reached out to take the wooden box and seemed to start sorting the herbs inside. In fact, he stuffed the coin bag under the layers of medicines and vials. He knew the meaning of this bribe. She wanted another medicine to be kept secret.
"Have a nice day," Li Xueyue responded, her lips curved into a smile as the Doctor left her room, followed by his apprentice.
