Wen Jinkai felt so disgusted with the woman in front of him that he couldn't bear to look at her again. He threw her to the ground, finally fed up with her disgusting tricks. This sweet calling and pleading was too familiar to him.

"Son..." She pleaded as her voice trailed off and came out in broken lines.

When was the last time she was so desperate? When was the last time the Queen asked him to do something? He still remembered the days when she invited him to the tea room and whispered lies in his ears until she tainted his heart.

It was that same voice, that same desperation, that convinced him that Li Minghua was the villain in his life.

Believing the Queen's lies had already ruined his life. He refused to fall into the same cycle over and over again. Enough is enough.

Wen Jinkai looked at her curled up on the ground. What happened to her? He used to think she was the most pitiful woman in the palace. She had everything except love. Now, he only saw her as a pest crawling into the sewer.

Wen Jinkai drew his sword. If he ended her life, then Li Minghua's death would be avenged. One life for another. That's how it was on the battlefield. For honor and glory, he was willing to sacrifice the queen's life.

“What are you doing?!” Queen Huiyun lowered her voice. Seeing the light of the weapon, her hands trembled. As soon as his wrist shook, she bled.

"Don't do this, Jinkai!" Queen Huiyun was furious. "You will be hanged for treason. The Emperor will not let you leave here alive."

"You should worry about yourself." Wen Jinkai strode towards her and whispered.

Queen Huiyun crawled back, struggling to get away from him. Death had been unable to reach her, but now that they were face to face, she was truly frightened. Duchess Wang Qixing had not yet paid for her crimes.

“My death is not yet here!” Queen Huiyun screamed in her heart. She must avenge her wounded heart. She must help the princess who burst into tears twenty years ago and begged for the Duke’s heart.

"That's what a mother does, Jinkai. We only care about our children until our last breath." Queen Huiyun whispered. "For a mother, nothing else matters except her children!"

Wen Jinkai tilted his head. He tightened his fingers around the hilt of the sword. "It's funny that all you do is use me, but you treat me like your son."

"This is not true!" Queen Huiyun pleaded, "I don't care about anyone except you!"

"If you care about me, why did you kill Li Minghua?"

Queen Huiyun's eyes were filled with tears. She wanted to forget the sins of the past that had stained her hands. That passionate night should not have happened. But Li Minghua was too much like her mother. The same smile, the same arrogance, the same face. All of this repelled her.

Watching Li Minghua and Wen Jinkai getting closer and closer is like witnessing the Duchess and the Duke of Wang Qixing. Letting her son marry that wench's daughter is like living in hell. The palace will be turned upside down.

"I didn't mean to do this," Queen Huiyun whispered. "That woman, she's crazy! She set her room on fire and declared that she was going to kill both of us instead of just herself. You have to believe me, you have to believe me!"

Wen Jinkai's face darkened. "Then why did Li Minghua commit suicide? What made her like this?" He was furious and put the tip of the sword to her chin. It only took one last motion to end it all.

"Because of you!" Queen Hye-un screamed. "You made her like this! Your neglect led to her self-destruction. Your inability to love her ruined her happiness. You left her wallowing alone in a cold room. Remember, son, I may have offered the sword, but you wavered in it."

Wen Jinkai had heard enough. He curled his lips and thrust his sword forward. At the critical moment, as soon as the door opened, Queen Huiyun dodged.

The second prince stood there panting. He rushed to his mother and hugged her. He stared at Wen Jinkai, his eyes full of hatred and hostility.

"Are you crazy?!" Wang Jing asked.

Wen Jinkai’s attention was not on the second prince. It was on the scene outside the door. Where were his people? He turned around and saw that they were all oppressed by groups of soldiers.

“Mom, are you okay?” Wang Jing whispered, horrified at her injured body. There were bruises on her neck, but the pain was worse than that. What hurt her most was her broken heart.

Queen Huiyun had just lost a son today, the only son she loved deeply. She couldn't stop crying.

"Son..." Queen Huiyun's voice became smaller and smaller, watching Wen Jinkai staggering back. She reached out to grab him, but Wang Jing grabbed her hand.

"Mom, please." Wang Jing begged. "Give up on him, it's useless."

Queen Huiyun shook her head quickly. She pushed the Second Prince aside and walked quickly to Wen Jinkai. "Put down your weapon, my child. With the commotion we've caused, the Emperor will be here at any moment."

Wang Jing was stunned and quiet. He stared at his empty hands, numb and broken by her rejection. Even in her final moments, the queen cared about no one except Wen Jinkai.

Wang Jing comes to save the queen, but the queen is only focused on the murderer.

"Jinkai, listen to me," Queen Huiyun said in a low voice, grabbing his hand. She threw the sword from his hand, and it fell heavily to the floor.

Wen Jinkai's attention was elsewhere. A woman. She stood by the door, looking at him with horror. He had seen her before; he had seen her before. In the palace, Li Xueyue was slapped roughly by a servant.

At that time, he only had Li Xueyue in his eyes. No one else mattered. But now, it was that woman. The masked woman's eyes evoked Li Minghua's memory.

“Minghua?” Wen Jinkai muttered and took a step in the direction of the woman. She had no reaction to the name.

"What?" Queen Huiyun whispered, turning to her maid. She grabbed her son and tried desperately to put his sword back into the hilt at his waist.

"It doesn't matter now." Queen Huiyun said desperately. "Hurry up and leave here before your father comes."

Wen Jinkai pushed her off him. "Minghua, is that you?" he said, rushing toward her.

The servant was terrified. Who wouldn't be? The man who had hurt her was now approaching her.

"Stop it, Jinkai!" Wang Jing stopped in front of Wen Jinkai and shouted. "You've caused enough damage today!"

"Let me go." Wen Jinkai roared and pushed the second prince away.

“Son, please!” Queen Huiyun screamed, her voice hoarse. She knew the bruises were more obvious now, but it didn’t matter to her.

The emperor could walk in from here at any time. If anything happened to Wen Jinkai, she would jump off the nearest cliff. His behavior today was already damnable. Everyone knew this.

Queen Huiyun said, "Listen to your mother." She grabbed Wen Jinkai's hand, but he slapped her away. She raised her head, her face full of despair.

"My dear son—"

"I'm not your son," Wen Jinkai roared. "And you're not my mother. You make me sick."

Without waiting for her to respond, he rushed out of the room, with the shadow guards following closely behind him.

Wang Jing sighed angrily. His stupid friend! Wang Jing knew that Wen Jinkai would definitely walk out of here unscathed. No one could do anything to him.

"Mom, leave him alone-" His voice caught in his throat when he saw her.

Queen Huiyun fell to her knees, pale and bewildered. Her tears had formed a river and drowned her. The pain was inevitable. The heartbreak was palpable. She looked completely defeated and lost.

She let out a loud sob that echoed through the empty room and echoed off the walls. She hugged herself and let out a heart-wrenching cry.

Queen Hye-un lost her only beloved son, the only person who filled the emptiness in her heart.

Wang Jing then realized: the other princes were not important. Only one commander could get the queen's true love. She didn't cry for anyone except herself and Wen Jinkai.

For the Queen, if there was anything worse than death, it would be losing Wen Jinkai. And that was exactly what happened. Nothing was more painful to her than the thought.

Wen Jinkai had given up on her. This thought crushed her more than the reality of the situation. She would never be the same again.
