Yu Zhen roughly pulled his arm away from her. "Don't touch me," he snapped.

He heard her heart break before he saw it himself. He left her there without even a glance at her.

Li Xueyue fell to her knees. She would not cry. She told herself that tears belonged to the weak; tears belonged to the weak. She stopped crying. So why were tears streaming from the corners of her eyes? Why was her entire chest swollen and her throat blocked?

It was a heartbreak that was hard to explain. She cried and cried for the man she had lost, for her lost pride. But it wasn't a loud wail or a plea. It was unlike her.

She cried silently because that is what she was trained to do. She shed tears silently, witnessed by no one but known by only one person.

"Li Xueyue, you bastard..."

Lu Tianbi stood at the edge of the forest that Yu Zhen had strayed into. She sighed and looked up at the sky, wondering why he had done all this just to see the princess.

"I don't understand." Hu Dengxiao kicked a small stone and muttered. "He did so much for her, but he didn't tell her anything."

"Poor thing." Lu Tianbu shook his head and said, "She shouldn't do anything bad to him."

“I don’t think she’s doing him any harm,” Hu said. “If she was, we’d know.”

"Believe me, the commander looked down on her." Lu Tianbi said. "If he didn't do that, why did he leave the tent? I saw she was about to cry. I bet he didn't even comfort her."

"If he hated the princess, he wouldn't have punished the lieutenant and let us go. He could have embarrassed her in front of all of us, but he didn't," Hu Dengxiao pointed out.

"What do you think happened between them?" Lu Tianbi asked. "I wonder what she did to make him so angry?"

Hu Dengxiao shrugged. "I wish I knew."

Lu Tianbi shook his head again. "You know, when he rounded up all the soldiers, I thought he was going to take us back to Han. Didn't you hear about the urgent letter the eunuch sent?"

"Of course I know about the letter. The Second Prince was at her house that day, and we sent eunuchs to take him home quickly. It has been almost two and a half weeks since that incident."

Lu Tianbi frowned. "Don't give me attitude."

"I'm not." Hu Dengxiao pouted.

Lu Tianbi rolled his eyes at the boy. "We should hurry back to Hanjian instead of hiding in Wuyi Forest. Hanjian urgently needs the Second Prince. This is his best chance to seize the throne."

“What if our prince doesn’t want to be emperor? Have you ever thought about that?” Hu Dengxiao muttered. “Maybe he wants to live a quiet life outside the palace and live happily with his princess[1].”

"Our second prince will never be able to live a happy life." Lu Tianbi said expressionlessly.

Hu Dengxiao swallowed. "I know. I just hope he can."

Lu Tianbi opened her mouth, but closed it again when she saw her commander. She straightened up and handed him the towel.

"Thank you," he murmured, taking it and wiping the sweat off his face.

"Where were you at the time?" Hu Dengxiao snorted. "The prisoners woke up."

"Have you protected this area?" Yu Zhen asked.

"Of course," Lu Tianbi said. "No one should be able to hear us from miles away anyway. No one lives nearby, and we're deep in the forest, so we can't hear their screams."

"Okay." Yu Zhen said. "Let's have some fun."

It was not until Li Xueyue returned to bed that she realized she had cried herself to sleep. Where did she fall asleep in the first place? At the entrance of the tent? That would be embarrassing.

She sat up in bed and found that the headache had gone away. When she touched her head, she felt the familiar bandage.

Out of the corner of her eye she saw something moving.

Li Xueyue moved her position and looked in that direction. He had his back to her and seemed to be concentrating on something. Or was he simply ignoring her?

Li Xueyue then realized that the soft thing she saw when she woke up was a blanket. She put her hand on it and it was thick and sweet.

Li Xueyue wondered if he knew she was awake. He must have. Her clothes rustled. She looked down and saw that she had soiled his bed. When she was pulled off the horse, her robe turned brown from contact with the soil.

She nervously pulled her hand back from the blanket. Didn't he care that she had soiled his bed? Why had he put it on her? She must have looked like a mess.

“You can keep shooting.”

Li Xueyue was startled by his voice.

Even as he spoke to her, his back was still turned towards her. She wondered what he was doing.

Li Xueyue leaned over to see more clearly. She finally smelled something - a strong smell of blood. Her face turned pale and goose bumps appeared on her skin.

Yu Zhen pretended that his dirty knife was more important than her. Although he knew that he had stained the blood, it would be better to wash it off with water, but he continued to wipe it.

Yu Zhen wanted to be by her side. He needed to do this. He couldn't help but guard her while she slept.

Yu Zhen scolded himself for leaving her sleeping on the floor. He should have let her sleep there. When the curtains blew, everyone saw her stupid, unconscious body.

Yu Zhen could have fooled her, but he didn't. He could never do this to her.

No matter what she did to him, Yu Zhen himself was incapable of hurting her.

Yu Zhen grabbed his arm and froze. Before he could speak, she asked, "Are you hurt?"

What? He couldn't even register her question.

Li Xueyue's eyes fell on the bloody dagger, and her eyes suddenly fell on him. She gasped when she saw him. Blood splashed on his face, but he didn't seem to care.

Li Xueyue didn’t realize she was shaking until she reached for his face. Where did the blood come from? Was it his? She held up his face and turned it to check for any signs of injury.

Yu Zhen's body tensed. He should have pushed her away. Instead, he found himself bending down so she wouldn't have to stand on tiptoes for so long. He let her touch him, which was forbidden in Han.

All the rules he set were broken by her. Every one of them.

"Does it hurt anywhere?" Li Xueyue reached into her pocket and took out a handkerchief, asking tremblingly.

Yu Zhen was silent. Why wasn’t she scared by the blood? He knew his face was covered in blood. He deliberately wanted her to see him like this. He hoped it would scare her. He hoped she would be so scared of him that she would run out of this tent and ask to go home.

There was no way Yu Zhen would take the initiative to send her back. He needed her to tell him that she wanted to go home. He needed her to yell at him, call him a monster, and all sorts of names. He needed her to drive him away because he couldn't leave her.

"Is this your blood?"

Yu Zhen was stunned and couldn't answer her. He stared at her, dumbfounded by both himself and her.

"I didn't see any injuries..." she added.

Li Xueyue wanted to know what she was doing. She should stay away from him and not touch him! But she could not do anything. The first sight of blood made her heart skip a beat. The thought of him being injured frightened her. Fear forced her to get up from the bed and grab him.

What was she thinking?

She obviously didn't think much about it!

Seeing his cold eyes, she put down her hand and took a step back. "I didn't mean to catch you."

Li Xueyue didn't know what to do with her finger. It was now covered in blood. She could only stand there awkwardly, letting him continue to stare at her blankly. She nervously forced a smile, wondering if it would encourage him to say something, anything.

He did, but it wasn't what she expected.

"Li Xueyue, I hate you."
