Hours passed like days, and days seemed like an eternity. Time passed extremely slowly and painfully. Days passed slower than drops of water dripping from a lotus leaf.

It wasn’t until Yu Zhen left that Li Xueyue realized how much of an impact he had on her life. She couldn’t look into the drawer where he kept his hairpins. Only recently did she realize the impact his gifts had on her. She was proud enough to swallow her regret and tried to move on, but failed miserably.

A week passed and still no sign of him.

This wasn't unexpected, though. Li Xueyue knew it, but she couldn't accept it. She spent countless sleepless nights thinking and imagining different outcomes in the future if she hadn't been so stupid that day. If she hadn't pushed him away. If she hadn't let revenge occupy her mind.

"This revenge will destroy you."

She will never forget this sentence. It is slowly becoming a reality.

"Xiaoyue, it's not good to stay in the bedroom all day. How about we take the horse out for a walk?" This was the tenth time Li Wenmin said this this week.

Sitting by the window was Li Xueyue, who was in a daze. A book was placed on her lap, but her attention was outside. From there she could clearly see the garden and smell the fragrance of the blooming flowers. However, nothing could make her happy. The pain of silent heartbreak had numbed her.

Li Wenmin put his hands on his hips and walked into her room. "You haven't ridden Black Moon for a week. I heard he was making a fuss in the stable, biting the groom and stomping on the door."

"Black Moon..." Li Xueyue muttered, her wild horse flashing in her mind. "Are you sure he didn't confuse the door with the wall? He is blind, he might have made a mistake."

"It seems like it would be better to step on the wall." Li Wenmin sneered.

“The stable boy lets him roam the fields every day.”

"Yes, but there's nothing better than running, which only you can control," Li Wenmin argued. He stopped beside her and glanced down at the book in her lap, his eyes softening when he saw the title. It said "The Tradition of Han Dynasty".

There were more books scattered around the room, all about foreign topics. She knew Han Jian very well now.

Li Wenmin sighed. "You haven't told me what happened to Chen Yang and me. If you don't tell us what's on your mind, we don't know how to comfort you."

Li Xueyue didn't want to tell the twins the truth. She knew they would blame her. The twins advised her to separate from Yu Zhen, and she did so. But look at her now - melancholy and quiet.

"Your dark circles are getting worse." Li Wenmin said, pursing his lips. "I heard that Chen Yang asked his servants to prepare herbal tea for you to help with insomnia."

"He did it."

"Did you drink them?"

"Yes."

"And it doesn't work?"

"Yes."

"Can you give me an answer with one more word?" Li Wenmin frowned.

"of course."

"Xiaoyue." Li Wenmin sighed depressedly. "What's wrong with you?"

"Nothing. Just feeling a little glum, that's all."

Li Wenmin's brows knitted together. He grabbed her shoulders and forced her to look at him. His heart sank. He had never seen her with such a dazed, blank expression.

“When was the last time you had a good night’s sleep?”

Li Xueyue tilted her head. "I've never had a good night's sleep."

“Then why didn’t you tell any of us?” Li Wenmin frowned. “Xiaoyue, do you like making us worry like this?”

"I never thought about how important my sleep was. I didn't mean to worry you, I'm sorry."

"What's the point of apologizing?" Li Wenmin snorted. "It doesn't make up for your lack of sleep."

"I'm sorry," she repeated, looking away from him.

It broke his heart that she looked so haggard and exhausted.

"I'll ask the doctor to prescribe some supplements and medicine. You need to sleep." Li Wenmin said sternly, "Don't you dare object."

She nodded silently.

“Xiaoyue.” Li Wenmin frowned. “Talk to me. Don’t be like this. If you have any ideas, please tell me. I will solve it. I promise.”

Li Xueyue reached out and patted his cheek. She forced a smile on the corner of her mouth. “I’m fine-”

"No you're not!" Li Wenmin pointed angrily at the books and the untouched afternoon snack. "Look, you can't even eat properly! Usually you finish two plates of rice cakes and pastries, but today you didn't touch anything and you ate less at every meal."

Li Wenmin frowned. "Look at how sunken your cheeks are. Xiaoyue, you've lost a lot of weight. Why is that?"

He didn't give her a chance to speak.

"Is this your way of resisting?"

"No, of course not-"

"What is this?!" Li Wenmin screamed, looking at her with despair. "Mom and Dad are worried about you, Chen Yang is also worried, what happened? Why are you like this?"

Li Xueyue realized how unfair her behavior was. She had caused unnecessary stress to her family. But couldn't she just grieve in peace?

"I'm just...heartbroken, that's all."

Li Wenmin raised an eyebrow. "Does this have anything to do with Yu Zhen?"

She didn't respond.

"What happened? You have to tell me, Satsuki. Rant will help relieve your frustration."

Li Xueyue reluctantly turned her attention elsewhere. He may have grabbed her shoulders, but not her chin. She surveyed the garden. Those colorful flowers sparkling in the rain once fascinated her. The smell after the storm was the best, but it didn't matter anymore. The world was black and white. She didn't know why.

"He wants to ask for mom and dad's blessing."

Li Wenmin's eyes widened. "He was planning to marry you."

Li Xueyue nodded.

"You said no." Li Wenmin swallowed and predicted the final outcome.

She nodded again.

"Oh my god." Li Wenmin sighed deeply. "Well, now I know."

Encountering this situation, Li Wenmin didn't know what to do. He kept persuading Xueyue not to fall in love. But it was too late. She fell in love. She fell heavily.

Li Xueyue followed his advice and logically realized that her life was not suitable for Han Jian - at least, not now. This decision should propel her to a better future, allowing her to accomplish great things. However, neither of them knew how to get there.

What future does she dream of? What kind of life does she want?

None of them knew the answer. To be honest, the only time Xueyue thought about the distant future was when she was with Yu Zhen. But now this future was so bleak - out of reach, just a daydream.
