Reborn Daughter: The Young Lady Wants to Make a Trouble
Chapter 196 No more
"What is that?" Li Wenmin asked, taking a step closer to see more clearly. He was puzzled by the inconspicuous object wrapped in the handkerchief. Why was she so secretive about it?
The twins were confused by what they saw.
Until Li Xueyue raised the object dangling from her fingertips.
"No, that's not right." Li Wenmin exclaimed, his eyes widening as big as the sun. He simply couldn't believe what he saw.
"Wow. He really gave you this." Li Chenyang shook his head in disbelief.
Li Chenyang hoped that love would not make him do such a stupid thing. Yu Zhen and Xueyue had only known each other for more than a month. However, he had already given her something very precious, significant, and could not be ignored.
Li Xueyue nodded. She wrapped her fingers around the volcanic rock. It felt smooth to the touch, but from the outside, the stone was bumpy, extremely sharp, and even a little dangerous. The marble-like gold color, creating an illusion of lightning behind the roaring lion on the cliff, was enough to make Li Wenmin realize something.
"Wait a minute, lion? Don't you have a hairpin with a lion on it?" Li Wenmin widened his eyes with a look of disbelief.
"Uh, uh, that's not important right now—"
"Oh my God, no way! When did you tell me that on the day you went to meet Wen Jinkai, I accidentally put his hairpin into your hair?!" Li Wenmin snorted in annoyance.
"I really support him, but you didn't tell me!" Li Wenmin snorted.
"Stop trying to deviate from the important topic at hand, you fool!" Li Chenyang shouted.
"You nerd, who are you calling stupid?!"
Li Chenyang snorted. "Nerd? Really? That's the best you get? That's a terrible insult."
"At least I have the honor of not disrespecting my brothers. But I solemnly declare that you do not have this honor," said Li Wenmin.
"You only have honor in the military. Without your job, you would be the most dishonorable person I know."
"No sense of honor is not a word at all!" Li Wenmin shouted.
"This is."
"It is not!"
"This is." Li Cheyang raised his voice.
"It's not!" Li Wenmin shouted.
"I said yes, that is."
"If I say no, then it's not."
"Will you stop imitating me? God, you're so stupid you can't even speak your own words—"
"Brother Chen!" Li Xueyue said sharply. "You should be the voice of reason."
“I’m sorry.” Li Chenyang said embarrassedly. He was always calm and composed in court, but he always let his guard down at home. He couldn’t control it. Facing a brother or sister like Wen Min, the only thing he could do was to give in.
"Brother Wen, stop arguing every chance you get."
"Okay, then don't disappear from our presence again." Li Wenmin said with a pout.
Li Xueyue sighed. She didn't want to reply to him. Another quarrel feast was about to begin, this time between three people.
"Can we get back to the point?" she asked.
"You look like your mother now..." Li Wenmin muttered.
"Yes. Now sit down like a civilized person." Li Xueyue nodded toward their chairs. "Both of you."
"Yes, sir!" Li Wenmin joked and bowed to her.
Li Chenyang sneered at his brother's sense of humor. Despite this, he and Xueyue both had faint smiles on their faces.
“Like I was saying before your egos got the better of you,” she said, gesturing at the pendant. “I can use this to get those guys talking.”
"If they see you have this pendant, they will know who you are," said Li Chenyang.
Li Wenmin nodded. "This pendant proves that you are Yu Zhen's woman."
"Are you sure you want to use this pendant?" Li Chenyang asked. "You know, there is no turning back on this matter."
Li Wenmin sighed. "As much as I hate it, Chen Yang is right. Once you show the pendant, the message will be clear: you accept the fact that you now belong to him."
"I don't think this is his..." Li Xueyue muttered, remembering the quarrel on the training ground.
Suddenly, Li Xueyue felt that she and Yu Zhen were no longer anything, and it was dirty to use this pendant.
"But this will allow his men to see your true identity," Li Wenmin said firmly. "You will become Yu Zhen's princess[1]."
"Think about this carefully," Li Chenyang warned. "Although there is no tradition of exchanging pendants in marriages among the Han people, pendants have other important uses. Men don't give pendants to others, especially princes."
Li Wenmin scratched the back of his neck. Hmm, maybe all this reading was actually beneficial. “Wow, you actually said something so useful.”
Li Chenyang punched his brother on the head.
Li Wenmin did the same thing, but he hit it harder.
"I'm sad that mom has to raise you two." Li Xueyue rubbed her forehead. "You two must be very powerful."
Li Wenmin smiled and rubbed the sore spot. "Mom used to hire a caregiver in the hope of relieving the pressure."
"We all hate them, no matter how good they are," Li Chenyang added.
Li Wenmin nodded. "So we do everything we can to get rid of them so that mom can focus all her attention on us."
Li Xueyue glanced at them in confusion. They were proud of getting rid of the nanny and increasing the Duchess's burden? She shuddered at the thought of the twins quarreling and fighting every day. They must be every parent's nightmare. But at least, it turned out well...?
“You know,” she said, “you’re finishing each other’s sentences.”
Li Chenyang's lips pursed downward. She shouldn't have said that. He glanced at his brother and sneered. "As if this boy with a brain the size of a peanut could have the same thought process as me."
"If my brain is the size of a peanut, then yours is—"
"Anyway," Li Xueyue interrupted before she could get the unwanted information. "I'll think about whether I should display the pendant. Because, uh..." Her voice trailed off, and she suddenly couldn't finish her words.
The smile on Li Xueyue’s face suddenly disappeared. Pain pierced her chest. Although her heart was empty, it suddenly felt heavy. After all, she had given it to the man she had pushed away.
"Xueyue, I never asked you." Li Chenyang said. "What happened on the training ground?"
"Oh, he's right. Have you learned anything new? Can you tell me about his techniques - oh!" Li Wenmin rubbed his chest and groaned.
Li Chenyang hit his brother hard with his elbow.
"What is that used for?!" Li Wenmin burst into tears.
Li Chenyang glared at her, his chin raised in the direction of Xueyue.
Li Wenmin turned his attention to her, and then he understood why his brother interrupted him. The remorse, regret and guilt on her face were really hard to ignore. Despair and heartbreak flashed in her eyes. She was a cloud of sadness, her tears, rain. This was just the beginning of the storm. She hadn't cried yet, but once she cried, it would surely flow into a river.
No verbal communication is required to understand what is happening.
There is no Yu Zhen anymore.
There is no more Han Jian.
This is what the twins have always wanted, but they are not satisfied. Their ultimate goal is to see her happy, not depressed.
Sometimes, the people we love most are not with us, but in our hearts. Forever memories.
