Reborn Daughter: The Young Lady Wants to Make a Trouble
Chapter 168 Rebellion
Li Xueyue sat comfortably in her seat. Then, without warning, she opened her eyes wide and jumped out.
"Honey, what are you doing?" Duchess Wang Qixing asked with her eyes wide open in shock.
Li Xueyue got off the carriage and walked towards Wen Jinkai with firm steps. "Where is my pendant?"
Wen Jinkai examined her for a moment. From the way her hair fluttered in the wind to the twinkle in her eyes, she was serious. As he did not respond, her lips were caught up.
"What do you have in your hand?" Wen Jinkai asked, his eyes briefly resting on her fist. He knew that Yu Zhen must have secretly given her something.
“Give me back my pendant.” Li Xueyue pretended that he didn’t ask her a stupid question. Whatever she had, it had nothing to do with him.
"Why are you so eager to get it back? So that you can give it to him?" Wen Jinkai glanced at Yu Zhen with disgust, almost rolling his eyes at Yu Zhen's childish provocation.
"If it's so easy to fool me, I might as well retire." Yu Zhen thought. He was too confident in himself and didn't care about Wen Jinkai's words. He would personally have a private duel with this man.
"Look." Li Xueyue shouted coldly, her tone full of authority. "I'm just here to get my pendant back, not to chat, so either you hand it over or else."
“What else?” Wen Jinkai repeated, a faint smile on his lips. Li Xueyue thought it was funny that his claws were sharp and threatening. It would hardly cause any harm to him.
Li Xueyue's mouth curled down. "I will not hesitate to eliminate you from my life."
"Do you have that power?" Wen Jinkai whispered, "Nothing in this world can keep me away from you."
“I really don’t understand.” Li Xueyue shook her head. “Your lack of understanding of boundaries is commendable.”
"I gave you boundaries." Wen Jinkai said slowly: "I could break into your house, kidnap you, and then walk out the front door unharmed, but for you, I didn't do that."
Li Xueyue laughed quietly, and her laughter pierced his heart. It was cold and desolate, just like the disgust in her sharp eyes. "Maybe these obsessive words work for Minghua, but they don't work for me."
Wen Jinkai narrowed his eyes. "How much do you know?"
"everything."
"How?" He took a threatening step towards her and asked, "Who told you?"
"That's none of your business." Li Xueyue shook her head. "I don't have time to talk about this. Give me back my pendant."
Wen Jinkai was conflicted and didn't know what to do. The right thing to do was to return it to her. After all, he had stolen it from her belt when she wasn't paying attention. But this pendant was the only thing that connected her to him. Without it, he had no reason to see her. He couldn't let it go.
"Where did I screw up?" Wen Jinkai finally asked, "What makes you dislike me? What did I do wrong?!"
Yu Zhen's hand instantly flew to the sword, and he narrowed his eyes in warning. This was getting out of control. He began to approach Xueyue, but Xueyue held a hand firmly. Her message was clear - this was her fight, not his.
"I admit, I'm interested in you. Maybe I even like you," Li Xueyue replied, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear, completely unfazed by his anger.
"But then you lost my respect." Li Xueyue said, "From your ignorance of boundaries to your desire for a harem, I know that you don't regard me as an equal."
"I do," he said firmly, the frustration disappearing from his dull eyes.
"No, you don't," she deadpanned. "If you respected me, you wouldn't have publicly announced that I was betrothed to you. If you respected me, you wouldn't have hurt me or had the audacity to sneak into my room and act like you owned me. Even now, you don't respect me."
Duchess Wang Qixing's eyebrows suddenly raised. Wen Jinkai broke into Li Xueyue's room? When did this happen? !
"Snow Moon——"
"You should move on," she deadpanned. "Whether it's hers or mine, you should do it for you as well as for her."
Wen Jinkai didn't respond. It felt like a huge rock was pressing down on him, and his heart suddenly became heavy. Although he kept blaming himself, he couldn't move on. How could he leave his first love? She was everything to him, and without her, he was nothing.
Her eyes softened in an instant. Despite his confident aura and endless achievements, he was a pitiful man full of heartbroken delusions.
"Your delusion will destroy everything you hold dear—"
"I have nothing to cherish anymore." Wen Jinkai gritted his teeth, clenched his fists so tightly that his skin began to turn pale. At this point, he could hardly feel his bleeding hands, but he didn't care. There were more pressing matters at hand.
"Then find something worth cherishing," she said calmly.
Wen Jinkai shook his head. "Impossible."
"That's not my problem," she chuckled, despite the lack of humor.
Wen Jinkai gritted his teeth. The more indifferent she acted, the more he wanted her. He wanted to see how far he could push her before she broke. He wanted to see more than just this indifferent behavior.
Wen Jinkai knew there was more to her than met the eye. He didn't want to see her as a challenge to be conquered, but he couldn't help it. It was the only thing he knew how to do - take what didn't belong to him, whether it was the exotic land of Wuyi or the affection that the queen should have for her own child.
"If that happens, you'll never get your pendant back."
"Okay then." Li Xueyue shrugged. "In return, I will never respect you. Not in this life, not in the next."
"It doesn't matter." Wen Jinkai smiled coldly. "I don't need your respect."
Li Xueyue was annoyed by his words, but she forced herself to remain calm. He wanted her to react, something beyond her usual displeasure. She watched his movements carefully, wondering if she should retreat to the carriage. She would not waste any more time trying to convince this huge rock to bend for her.
"If respect doesn't get you on my side, then something else will." Wen Jinkai looked at Yu Zhen thoughtfully. "No matter what stands in my way, I will have you."
Yu Zhen's face was filled with disgust. This man had completely lost his mind. Or perhaps, he had never had the ability to do this in the first place.
Duchess Wang Qixing sighed softly. "Wen Jinkai," she began. "If I had known you were this kind of person, I would never have supported your friendship with Li Minghua."
"Is that what we are, friends?" Wen Jinkai let out a cruel laugh, his eyes wide and full of madness. "We were-"
"I know what you are." Duchess Wang Qixing said with disgust. "If you really loved her, you wouldn't disrespect her like this."
"I would never disrespect her," Wen Jinkai growled. "She-"
"Oh, but you really don't respect her, and you still don't respect her now." Duchess Wang Qixing said thoughtfully.
"What are you talking about? When she's with me, the only thing she knows is worship."
“Don’t make me laugh.” Duchess Wang Qixing had a blank expression on her face. Her blood boiled at his ignorance. Was he blinded by love? Or was he so delusional that he didn’t see Li Minghua’s depression in the palace?
"Like mother, like daughter. You both love to jump to conclusions."
“Speaking of mothers, why don’t you ask the woman who raised you?” Duchess Wang Qixing suggested in a calm and restrained voice, even though her patience had reached its limit.
"Ask her what?"
"Why did Li Minghua commit suicide?"
“What?” Wen Jinkai exhaled, his eyes widened, full of disbelief. Li Minghua… is suicidal? How? Why? He couldn’t handle it. Wasn’t she very happy with him? Did something happen that he didn’t know about?
Duchess Wang Qixing did not respond further. She grabbed Li Xueyue's wrist and the two of them approached the carriage.
Wen Jinkai didn't want to see Li Xueyue leave so suddenly. He couldn't just let her go. He needed to say something to convince them to stay, to convince her to look at him again, even if it was a look of disgust. He didn't care. As long as she looked at him like that, he was satisfied.
"Do you realize that your comments are treason against the king?"
Duchess Wang Qixing paused. Suddenly, her chest shook and she let out a ruthless laugh. She turned around with a sickeningly sweet smile on her face. "I don't care at all."
Wen Jinkai watched the two board the carriage silently without looking back. He knew he had lost the respect of the entire Li family, but that didn't matter to him. If that was how they wanted to behave, then fine. He knew more than one way to convince a woman to be with him - even if it meant he would become the villain in their lives.
