Duchess Wang Qixing was relieved that the restaurant was located on a quiet street, away from stray eyes. Moreover, the large Li carriage parked at the door blocked most of the outside view. If anyone saw Li Xueyue and Wen Jinkai fighting before throwing herself into the arms of another man, her reputation would be ruined.

Duchess Wang Qixing stared at Yu Zhen intently. His actions reminded her of the time she spent with King Li Chenyang when she was young. He was also willing to sacrifice everything to finally get her, but forgot that he also had a reputation to maintain.

"Commander Wen." Duchess Wang Qixing said calmly, without revealing any thoughts or emotions. "We have already returned Xueyue's pendant to you, and you should also return her pendant to us."

Duchess Wang Qixing obviously didn’t care about the blood flowing from her hands. She didn’t even blink when the bright liquid stained the floor and his clothes. She only cared about the main purpose of this visit.

Wen Jinkai didn't even recognize the Duchess' voice. His attention fell on the couple in front of him, and his eyes fell on Li Xueyue. The scene in front of him was too familiar, Wang Longhe desperately hugged Li Minghua, begging and pleading for her to marry him. However, the roles were reversed, and it was Li Xueyue who hugged Yu Zhen as if her life depended on it, not the other way around.

"Ha..." He chuckled and shook his head in disbelief.

He was so stupid that he actually thought that Li Xueyue would see through her selfish thoughts. Did she deliberately abandon such a big scene just because he couldn't compromise with her?

He never said anything about wanting a harem, but he wasn't against the idea either. Did she jump to conclusions and believe he would have one just because he wasn't against the idea?

Wen Jinkai's lips curled up into an indulgent smile, and a dangerous warning flashed in his eyes.

"If this is your decision, I will not quietly agree to it," he said, referring to her close relationship with Yu Zhen.

Wen Jinkai stuffed the pendant into his robe pocket.

He ignored his bleeding hand, and the way the wound widened as he tightened his grip on the hilt.

"You want a duel? She's the prize? I'd gladly accept the challenge."

Duchess Wang Qixing's eyes widened. Fighting? Taking Xueyue as a trophy? These people must be crazy!

Yu Zhen held Li Xueyue's hand tighter. His expression was very fierce, like a beast that would not let go of its prey. Wen Jinkai wanted Xueyue? The dream continued.

"If you want to fight," he began, his eyes shifting from the top of Xueyue's head to Wen Jinkai's disturbing face. "Take it somewhere else."

"What? Just because I'm injured, you have no confidence? Don't worry." Wen Jinkai said, "I can win with one hand."

"Is your self-esteem all you care about?" Yu Zhen narrowed his eyes and held Xueyue closer until all she could hear and see were his dark clothes and his calm heartbeat.

Wen Jinkai opened his mouth, but Duchess Wang Qixing interrupted gruffly.

"You can fight for everything I care about, but you can't use Xueyue as a prize. You two have let me down." Duchess Wang Qixing said.

Yu Zhen only glanced at the Duchess, and his lips were pursed into a line. This was Li Xueyue's mother, and he had to be respectful.

Wen Jinkai looked at the Duchess, their eyes met, and mixed emotions collided. She was irritated and frustrated with him, while he was curious and annoyed. If Duchess Wang Qixing wanted to save her daughter's reputation, she should have stopped Li Xueyue from running to Yu Zhen. Even so, he couldn't blame her. After all, she was the one who raised Li Minghua and loved her the most.

When Duchess Wang Qixing gave Wen Jinkai a sharp look with the eyes of a mother looking at a rebellious child, Wen Jinkai frowned even deeper. After a few seconds, he reluctantly put the sword back into the scabbard.

Duchess Wang Qixing nodded with satisfaction. "Now," she said, turning to Commander Yu Zhen. "I would be grateful if you could release our Xueyue. It's time for us to go home."

"Can I stay with her for a while?" Yu Zhen asked, not caring about his shameless behavior.

Duchess Wang Qixing shook her head firmly. "No, you've done enough damage." She began to doubt her trust in him. Both of them were unreliable and didn't seem to care about Li Xueyue's reputation.

"I saved her from the 'so-called' harm." Yu Zhen replied, his tone indifferent but polite.

"You asked my daughter to come to you, and then you grabbed her roughly like a rag doll. Do you dare to play the savior?" She narrowed her eyes.

"Xueyue, let's go home." Duchess Wang Qixing shouted.

Li Xueyue hesitated for a moment, but reluctantly put down her hand. She looked up at Yu Zhen, hoping that her eyes could speak for her.

Li Xueyue didn’t want to be separated from him, but at the same time, she did it. How could she possibly forget what he had done to her that day? He left without a word, forcing her to chase him, and even when she hit the ground roughly, he didn’t look back. Not once.

Yu Zhen saw that the admiration on her face was suddenly replaced by a wave of anger, and his eyebrows raised sharply. "Xueyue," he said slowly, "you are angry."

"I fell down because of you. I scraped my knee. It might be because of the scar you left." Li Xueyue suddenly said, took a few steps back, but reached out and held her wrist.

Yu Zhen would never admit it, but he was panicking. He was terrified at the thought of losing her, and if he wasn’t careful enough, she would slip out of his hands. “What are you talking about-”

"That day, you came to visit the manor, and then suddenly rushed out without any warning, just because I didn't listen to you, just because I didn't accept your hand."

Yu Zhen's eyes narrowed suddenly. Whenever he thought about what happened that day, he became angry. Before he boarded the carriage, he received the most unexpected news in his life.

“This is not the time or place to discuss such personal matters.”

Li Xueyue took a step back frightened by his words, as if she had been slapped in the face, but she quickly came to her senses. Her blood boiled at his harsh words.

"So when is the right time? You can come or go."

Yu Zhen sighed in irritation, his fingers clenched into fists. "First, everyone is worried about your reputation, so I can't go to Li's house easily. Second, if I meet you in the palace, you will not be safe. Third, you can't leave home without permission, and I don't come and go as I please. I will try my best to see you."

Li Xueyue opened her mouth and closed it again. She didn't realize how difficult it would be for him to see her without damaging her reputation.

Duchess Wang Qixing pursed her thin lips into a line. Although she was reluctant to admit it, Yu Zhen was right. It was hard to see Xueyue. However, this could not be an excuse for his behavior.

"If you want to see Xueyue, you should make a formal request to us." Duchess Wang Qixing sneered. "We will only accept this, nothing else."

Wen Jinkai frowned. Is it that easy? All right then.

"And you, Xueyue." Duchess Wang Qixing turned to her daughter, "It's time to say goodbye to him. Let's go home now."

Yu Zhen became nervous. It had been several days since he last saw Xueyue, but their meeting ended like this. "If you allow me-"

"You don't have to." Duchess Wang Qixing interrupted. "If you want to see her, you have to be formal. If you don't make your relationship clear to Xueyue, I will not accept any informal request to meet Xueyue."

"If you wish, Duchess," Yu Zhen said, "I can announce Li Xueyue and I's intentions to the whole country."

Duchess Wang Qixing resisted the urge to hit him with her shoes. This arrogant boy! "Then it's up to you, but I must warn you, you won't get my blessing."

She walked over to Xueyue and hugged the girl gently. "Let's go."

Li Xueyue couldn’t go against what Duchess Wang Qixing had done to protect her. She bit her lower lip and walked toward the carriage. She nearly jumped when Yu Zhen’s hand brushed against her fingers, and a cold object pressed against her palm. She blinked in surprise but still held the object between her fingers, hoping no one saw this little exchange.

Li Xueyue took one last look and got on the carriage without saying a word.
