Then, there was silence. Not uncomfortable, not awkward. Everything was quiet. Neither of them spoke, not knowing what to say. They sat facing each other, silently observing each other, looking away every time they were caught looking at each other. The seconds passed, and in the blink of an eye, they turned into minutes.

Li Xueyue took a sip of tea and leaned back in her chair, while Yu Zhen sat cross-legged comfortably.

After several minutes of watching her eyes move from her tea to the floor and then to him, he finally asked, "Is there anything you want to tell me?"

Li Xueyue pursed her lips. She had so many things she wanted to tell him. "How long will you stay in Wuyi?" she asked again.

"The day I saw you in the palace, I received an interesting letter." Yu Zhen leaned back in her chair, looking leisurely, and suddenly said.

"Oh, whose is it?" she asked curiously.

"Emperor Han Jian."

Li Xueyue's lips parted. She already knew where this conversation was going. She forced a smile and opened her eyes wide, hoping to appear optimistic.

"Hope it's good news?"

Yu Zhen saw the frown on her face and her eyes narrowed. She was good at smiling, but she wouldn't fake it. "This can be seen as good news to others, but not to us."

Li Xueyue blinked in confusion and waited for him to continue.

"My father changed his mind about who could become the crown prince."

From an outsider's perspective, this was good news. The Second Prince's performance was actually better than the First Prince's, which was a rare occurrence. So why did he look so depressed?

Li Xueyue took another sip of tea, thinking about how to answer next. She didn't want to give him false happiness. It was not in her nature to do so. She wanted to be honest with him.

"You don't look happy." Yu Zhen said, with a faint smile on his face. "Why?"

"I should be asking you that question," she deadpanned.

"Why should I be unhappy? I will be the crown prince that everyone will look up to. I will have more servants to command, my name will be talked about more, and I will live a luxurious life forever without having to live in my own palace." "My brother's shadow."

"But that's not your concern."

Yu Zhen opened his eyes wide and looked at her unprepared. What did she just say?

"How did you know?"

Li Xueyue smiled slowly. "A person who doesn't follow traditions doesn't care about gossip. If you like luxury, you will arrive in Wuyi in the loudest possible way, whether it's a large parade or accompanied by groups of servants."

"Well, I brought my guards—"

"Every prince needs a guard."

Yu Zhen chuckled. "You talk as if you know me."

Li Xueyue should have been offended by his accusatory words, but she wasn't. "Well, I want to know more about you."

Yu Zhen smiled and shook his head. "You asked about my childhood, now it's my turn to ask questions."

"Okay, then you choose."

"If I ask you to put down everything and come to Hanjian, would you be willing?"

Li Xueyue held the teacup tightly and looked up at him. "You said you would give me time."

“I did.” Yu Zhen nodded in agreement. “But I got some interesting advice today.”

"Interesting, me too."

"Oh?" Yu Zhen frowned. "Let me guess, it's because of our departure?"

"Unfortunately, yes."

"Why is it so unfortunate?"

Li Xueyue narrowed her eyes, her face full of disbelief. They hadn't seen each other for a while, wasn't this news worth being unhappy about?

"are you serious?"

"Why wouldn't I?" he asked in a calm and collected voice.

Li Xueyue hated his aloof personality. One minute he was hot, the next he was cold. "We will have to go our separate ways."

"It's been a long time."

"possible."

"Not if that's your plan." Yu Zhen stood up, his eyes full of accusations, as if he had come to a conclusion. "Unless you want to test my patience."

"Why should I test your patience?" Li Xueyue frowned and threw the teacup on the table.

"Your father advised me to stay away from you. To give you space. Why?"

"I thought you had asked your personal questions, it's my turn to ask." Li Xueyue gritted her teeth and jumped up from the chair. What is he doing now?

"Just answer me, why don't you come with me to Hanjian?"

"I have to avenge someone."

"I."

Yu Zhen blinked in disbelief. "Could this be related to your previous parents?"

"I'm sorry to disappoint you," she said sarcastically, crossing her arms over her chest. "But yes, it has something to do with them."

"Li Xueyue." He called her coldly, closing the distance between them. He whispered in a low and painful voice, "This revenge will destroy you."

She didn't listen, shaking her head in disapproval, even though Li Wenmin's similar words echoed in her mind. "No, it won't, this revenge will satisfy me."

"Why would you give up your comfortable life for a little revenge?"

"This has nothing to do with you."

"Xueyue," he tried again, "Why do you want to cling to the past?"

"Nothing you say will change my mind, I—"

"You're going to start a new life with your current parents now, aren't you?"

"This doesn't change the past!" She yelled, taking a few steps back to put some distance between them.

Yu Zhen shook his head in disappointment, his heart torn by her. "Revenge can't change this."

"That's enough, Yu Zhen, I don't want to see you again today." Li Xueyue hugged her elbows, put her arms against her chest, and said sternly. She didn't like the truth coming out of his mouth.

“Don’t let your past ruin your present.”

"This is already destroying my future!" she yelled, her eyes wide and full of venom. "You have no idea how much they tortured me. You have no right to tell me what to do."

"You have the Li family as your refuge, how could they possibly torture you?" Yu Zhen asked calmly, and he remained calm when she couldn't. Someone had to remain rational in this argument, and he decided that person was him.

Li Xueyue blinked and licked her lips as she suddenly realized it. "What they did to me in the past can't be erased. It haunts me every night and keeps me awake."

Yu Zhen's eyes softened. He approached her and held her gently, but she slapped his hand away. He was frightened by her violent behavior. She stared at him as if he was a monster, as if he was an enemy. And all this was because he disagreed with her.

Li Xueyue was stunned by her own reaction. She didn't mean to hit him like that.

Her heart was in panic and her eyes were wide open, but she tried hard to hide it.

Li Xueyue would rather be a bitch than a weakling. If she is weak, everyone might hurt her. She doesn’t want to be weak. She wants to be strong. Strong enough to withstand the deadly gaze of Viscount Bai, strong enough to trample them.

Li Xueyue closed his eyes tightly. He said he was patient, but no one could be patient for long. Soon, they would break down and get tired. He was no exception.
