#846 - New members and abnormal clowns
During lunchtime, Batman announced to everyone that Robin would become the leader of the Young Justice League.
Besides Aqualad, the special Atlantean, and Harby, the seriously injured patient, all the members of the Young Justice League gathered in the cafeteria, including some members of the Justice League.
Most people didn't react much to Robin becoming the leader. Courtney and Megan applauded, offering sincere blessings, and Wally playfully draped his arm around Dick's shoulders.
Superboy also said 'congratulations' before falling silent, stuffing food into his mouth. He was the fastest eater there. After finishing, he grabbed a clean plate, piled on more food, and stood up to leave.
"What's wrong, Conner?" Megan, who often secretly paid attention to Conner, was the first to notice his unusual behavior and asked him as soon as he stood up.
"I want to go see Harby," Conner said, his eyes filled with worry.
"Is that food for Harby?" Wally asked.
"Yes," Conner nodded.
"Then I want to go later too. How about we go together?" Wally tentatively asked, and Conner agreed.
"Then why don't we all go together?" Megan suggested, clapping her hands. The decision was met with unanimous approval.
"Looks like you've finished discussing it."
Batman's voice was like the arctic wind, instantly extinguishing everyone's enthusiasm. They remembered Batman had serious matters to discuss and quickly returned to their seats.
"It seems all of you have no objections to the team leader. I will contact Aqualad to ask for his opinion, and you can ask O-Weapon yourselves."
Seeing everyone nod, Batman continued, "Next, two new members will join the Young Justice League soon. I hope you can get along well with them."
"New members!" Wally exclaimed excitedly. "Great! I was just thinking we don't have enough people."
In Wally's view, the Young Justice League was a subordinate organization of the Justice League, but the only difference was that one was an organization for adults, and the other was for kids.
Following this line of thought, the Young Justice League shouldn't have so few members. While it didn't need to be as many as the Justice League, it should have at least a dozen, enough to form two teams of six.
Dick also nodded. After the last command experience, he realized the team was short-handed. It seemed like their mission was completed successfully, but in reality, it was like walking a tightrope.
Every step was dangerous. Courtney relied on Harby's ability to transmit energy, and Aqualad relied on Superboy waking up at the right time. They were lucky, or else…
More manpower meant more insurance, which everyone saw as a win-win situation. Everyone present supported the idea.
Only Conner frowned slightly. Don't misunderstand, he didn't dislike the idea of adding manpower, but he wasn't comfortable with strangers, feeling uneasy instinctively.
"Can we know who's joining in advance?" Wally raised his hand, looking like a good student raising his hand in class.
Batman was about to speak but was interrupted by Shazam.
"Transfer students need to maintain a sense of mystery. Breaking the mystery in advance takes away a lot of the fun."
Batman looked at the seemingly mature kid and shook his head, deciding not to continue. Instead, he changed the subject.
"Next is the selection of a new supervisor. Red Tornado has volunteered to be your supervisor, and Black Canary will be responsible for teaching you fighting skills."
"Shazam will assist you in your activities long-term. Of course, if he has something urgent, I will replace him."
After Batman finished, the polite Megan raised her hand and, with his permission, asked her question.
"What about Mr. Yang Le? Is he not continuing to be responsible for us?"
Megan felt a bit guilty towards Yang Le, whom she had deceived, but she hadn't had a chance to apologize because of the subsequent events.
"He went on a honeymoon with Wonder Woman," Shazam said with a teasing expression.
Among everyone present, he and Yang Le were the most familiar. He often visited the house the latter bought in Smallville, so he considered himself to know a lot of inside information.
Batman looked back again. As one of the only two people in the Justice League who knew Shazam was an elementary school student, he felt it was necessary to give him some education a child should have.
The entire Justice League knew about Yang Le and Diana's romantic relationship. There were some rumors online, but Cyborg blocked them, so the matter only spread within the Justice League.
Therefore, the children present were naturally shocked. No one expected Yang Le, who seemed ordinary, to win the heart of a goddess.
Afterward, Batman ignored the children who were still lost in thought and announced the end of the meeting after saying a few more things. Then, he got up and left Mount Justice.
He had many things waiting for him, such as the Joker.
After being quiet for a long time, the Joker was active again. Unlike those who saw the bombing as just the Joker's usual criminal activity, Batman felt there were many unusual things about it.
As the greatest detective of the century, Batman was skilled in almost all methods of investigation. He especially liked to use empathy to speculate on the criminal's intentions.
This method was very effective for Gotham's criminals with distinct characteristics. Batman had dealt with them for many years using this method, especially the Joker.
This was because the Joker liked Batman to speculate on him in this way. Sometimes, he would deliberately let Batman know his intentions, which the Joker found very interesting.
In Batman's view, this bombing was just a very boring 'game' for the Joker.
No laughing gas, no whimsical ideas, just simply announcing he was going to make a big news and decided to let the people in the big city feel the charm of fireworks.
The lack of novelty was no different from what ordinary criminals would do, except the commotion was a little bigger. In Batman's view, it was more like a preview.
Like a starting gun for a race, the real race would begin after a deafening sound.
"I hope I'm overthinking it," Batman muttered.
