#839 - mask
Conner and his partner, believing they had found a weakness in the Nova Amusement Park, continued to advance deeper into the haunted house.
The two, who were already quick on their feet, naturally began to move quickly after setting a goal. Unlike other tourists who were enjoying or passively enjoying the amusement facilities, the two members of Group A looked like speedrunners.
This is where the two showed their youth. After finding a clue, they became impatient and even forgot to disguise themselves, focusing only on moving forward.
In less than ten minutes, the two had covered about half the distance and arrived at the safe room in the middle of the haunted house. This place not only had a map of the entire haunted house but also a call device.
Tourists who didn't want to continue could press the call device, and a staff member would come out of a hidden passage and take them out of the haunted house.
It was also here that Megan had a different idea.
'You mean split up?' Conner raised an eyebrow upon hearing this. 'But Dick said before that we should try to stay together.'
'I know, but ordinary tourists can't enter the staff passage. ' Megan blinked slyly. 'This is the only normal opportunity to enter the staff passage.'
Megan was telling the truth. Only tourists who withdrew from the halfway point of the haunted house could leave through the staff passage. The rest, whether from the first half or the second half, could not. Staff members would take tourists out through the front and back doors respectively.
This was also one of the features of the Nova Amusement Park's haunted house, which was also recorded in online walkthrough guides.
In Megan's plan, she would split up with Conner. Conner would continue to experience the rest of the process, while she would follow the staff member out. The two would separately inspect the haunted house and the staff passage.
Conner hesitated for a moment but ultimately chose to follow Megan's instructions.
Megan pressed the conspicuous bright red button. Amidst a series of beeping sounds, a voice came from the camera in front of her.
"What seems to be the problem?"
"Hello, I would like to leave early," Megan said into the microphone in front of her.
"Okay, please wait a moment, we will send someone to pick you up right away."
The voice stopped after a 'beep' sound. After a few minutes, in the corner of the safe room, a wall suddenly opened a crack, gradually expanding into a passage that could fit one person.
A staff member wearing a Nova Amusement Park uniform walked out and asked, "Did you two press the distress button? I'll take you both out."
Megan raised her hand and said, "Actually, only I want to leave. My companion wants to stay and experience the whole course."
The staff member showed a look of surprise, but good work ethic allowed him to recover immediately, although the two superhumans still captured that momentary change in expression.
Conner didn't think much of it, but Megan was a little embarrassed. Obviously, the other party regarded Conner as the kind of unromantic guy who didn't know how to stay by his girlfriend's side.
But Megan knew clearly that she didn't know if their relationship could reach that stage, and could only apologize in her heart to Conner, who was inexplicably taking the blame.
'Sorry, Conner.'
'What's wrong, Megan?' Conner looked puzzled. 'Why are you suddenly apologizing?'
Megan's body stiffened. She had forgotten that the mind link was still open, which was too embarrassing.
'Oh! Megan!' Megan desperately resisted the urge to find a crack in the ground to crawl into. 'It's nothing, just pretend I'm talking nonsense, please, Conner!'
Conner was a little confused, but being the smart person that he was, he chose not to dwell on the matter. Megan took small steps and followed behind the staff member, heading towards the staff passage.
'Megan, be careful.'
Conner's voice suddenly appeared in Megan's mind, turning into a warm current before the latter could notice, and washing over Megan's entire body.
'Got it! Don't forget the mind link!'
Where Conner couldn't see, the corners of Megan's mouth were almost stretching to the back of her head.
The door to the staff passage slowly closed. Conner stared at the wall for a while before turning around and pushing open the door to the safe room.
The decoration in the second half of the course was completely different from the first half. It was probably because the haunted house wanted to allow tourists to experience two different styles of haunted houses.
You could say that this design was very conscientious, offering two experiences for the price of one, but you could also say that this behavior ruined the immersion, which was also a point of criticism for the Nova haunted house online.
It could only be said that tastes differ.
Once again alone, Conner frowned again. He didn't know if it was his imagination, but he felt that this haunted house was becoming increasingly strange.
This sentence sounded strange. After all, the haunted house was meant to have a strange and terrifying atmosphere. Conner's idea was more like a compliment.
However, Conner didn't actually mean that. The strangeness he was talking about didn't refer to the overall atmosphere of the haunted house, but rather the decorations hanging on the walls of the haunted house.
These decorations were mostly masks. They seemed to be using masks to imitate the faces of various ghosts and monsters. They also had built-in mechanisms, and occasionally the masks would move to create a terrifying atmosphere.
These things couldn't scare Conner, but the main reason was that a couple of the massive number of masks had caught his attention.
They were some very ordinary emotion masks, with happiness, anger, sadness, and joy. They were all presented in the form of human faces, and they weren't particularly outstanding among the group of ghost masks, belonging to the kind that ordinary people wouldn't notice at a glance.
But Conner had a feeling that these masks should have something special about them. In order to complete the investigation mission, he naturally walked towards those masks.
He first walked towards the mask closest to him, which was engraved with the emotion of anger. He wanted to first carefully examine the surface of the mask, and then use his X-ray vision to see if he could find anything.
Stopping less than a meter away from the mask, Conner carefully examined the anger mask. After looking at it for a long time, he didn't find anything useful, but he always had a feeling that he was just one step away from finding something.
Gradually, Conner was gradually drawn in, and he didn't even notice that the camera in the room he was in had quietly turned off.
"Tap."
A hand suddenly landed on Conner's shoulder. This sudden change didn't scare the cautious Superboy, but at this moment, Conner was like an idiot, frozen in place.
"I can feel the child~"
A low, hoarse male voice sounded in Conner's ear.
"There is a hidden anger in your heart. Why do you suppress it? Is there some taboo?"
"I can't...can't..." Conner's body trembled, shaking like a sieve. "Can't hurt...anyone..."
"That's really heartwarming~" The man's tone was full of sarcasm.
"Then do the people you care about really care about you?"
