#838 - Haunted House
The ice cream was the kind designed to match the theme of the attraction, a haunted house made of black chocolate bricks, and ghosts sculpted from cream ice cream. Regardless of the taste, it looked great.
Of course, Megan wouldn't be happy just because the ice cream looked good. She was truly happy because Conner had actually gone to buy her ice cream, just as she had hoped.
Just like a real date.
"Thank you!" Megan took the ice cream from Conner, scooped up a little with the shovel-shaped spoon, and then carefully took a bite.
The rich cream and the icy coolness were a testament to why this snack had endured. Although she had eaten ice cream, Megan's face turned red, the melting ice cream sweetening her heart.
"The next group can enter now!"
An employee shouted, and Conner and Megan immediately snapped back to reality, hurrying towards the entrance of the haunted house. After showing their Super VIP tickets to the staff, they didn't have to wait in line like everyone else and immediately entered the haunted house.
It must be said that Nova Amusement Park was indeed rich and generous. The scenes were meticulously constructed, full of details, and even the monster sign at the entrance was exquisitely crafted.
The carved monster looked as if it could come to life at any moment, its mechanically moving eyeballs scanning everyone present.
As soon as Conner and Megan entered the hall, they were immediately infected by the atmosphere created by the scene. The dilapidated Western-style building formed a sharp contrast with the hustle and bustle outside, as if a gate separated two worlds.
After only a moment of愣神, Conner and Megan immediately recovered. They were just shocked by the exquisite scenery. After all, one was an alien and the other was a clone, and they didn't know much about human society, so they were easily attracted to novel things.
But it was only for a moment. They quickly recovered. Now that they had entered the investigation site, they couldn't speak as freely as they had outside. This was where Megan's importance was highlighted.
In order not to interfere with the main group, Megan temporarily cut off Group A's contact with everyone else, reducing the number of people in the channel to just the two of them.
This was also what the Young Justice League had discussed. After all, unlike the original story, they now had two telepaths in their team. Happy could also build a mental channel for everyone to communicate, just like Megan.
Of course, Happy's coverage was far less extensive than Megan's, and he couldn't even cover the entire Nova Amusement Park. However, the mission locations of Groups B and C were relatively close, so Happy could temporarily replace Megan.
This was one of the reasons why Dick and Batman could completely trust the two members of Group A to go alone.
'Okay, so where should we start investigating?'
Conner looked at Megan beside him. If he didn't count the time he made a scene at Cadmus Labs with the Young Justice League, he had never been on a mission before. After being rescued, he had been staying in Mount Justice.
As for Megan, she had been on several missions under the care of Martian Manhunter. Although she was also a rookie, she was at least better than him, who had no experience.
"Um..." Megan held her chin and thought for a while, then suddenly slapped her head.
"Oh! Megan! I think we should enjoy ourselves first."
'Let's take a lap around the haunted house first. We need to familiarize ourselves with the terrain before we do anything else, right?'
Conner was stunned for a moment after receiving the messages in his ears and brain at the same time before he realized that what Megan said was a disguise, and what was conveyed through her mental abilities was the truth.
They had been told by Dick before they came that normal haunted houses had surveillance to prevent accidents. Although Batman had checked and found that the backstage boss of Nova Amusement Park had a clean background.
However, most villains were clean people before they fell into the abyss. This didn't prevent them from choosing the wrong path in life.
Batman always liked to make the worst plans, and Robin had learned this from him. In his vision, all the staff of the amusement park could be their enemies.
If they didn't expose their identities, it would be fine, but once they showed their hand, they could fall into a siege, which would violate their original intention of avoiding war.
This was where the importance of telepaths was highlighted. Dick had said more than once how convenient it was to have Megan and Happy on the team.
At Megan's suggestion, the two continued to hold hands like a young couple, strolling through the haunted house. Megan would even scream appropriately when they encountered NPCs dressed as ghosts.
The Martian's reaction was too fast. She could detect the staff as soon as they showed a hint, and then immediately react and put on a show.
As they walked, Megan pulled Conner into a corner under the pretext of taking a rest. Almost as soon as they stopped, Megan's voice rang in Conner's mind.
'Something's not right here, Conner.'
'Not right? What did you find?'
Faced with Conner's question, Megan nodded, still saying some irrelevant things, but the real answer was conveyed in her mind.
'I just wanted to scan the entire haunted house with my X-ray vision, but I can't.'
Although he was half Kryptonian, Conner also possessed X-ray vision, but he was still in the mindset of following orders.
To avoid holding back, he didn't dare to use any of his superpowers. After hearing Megan's words, he tried to use his X-ray vision and found that he was blocked after only penetrating a little bit of the wall.
'Lead?!'
The advantages and disadvantages of his abilities had already been entered into his brain, so Conner immediately reacted.
'A normal amusement park wouldn't cover so much lead in its buildings.' Megan had a smug look on her face as if she had seen the truth, and at the same time, she didn't forget Dick's instructions and immediately contacted the others, telling everyone about this major discovery.
Such a large area of lead use, anyone normal would think of who it was to prevent, that is, the soul of the Justice League—Superman.
This discovery was equivalent to telling everyone one thing: there are indeed ghosts here.
After learning about this, Dick was happy but also a little worried, always feeling like it was an invitation into a trap.
Batman never looked at things with wishful thinking. He would remember things that looked like coincidences and try to deduce the rationality of things in his own way.
Robin was the same. He immediately reminded Conner and Megan to be careful, and if they found anything wrong, to withdraw immediately, with caution being the top priority.
Conner and Megan accepted Dick's suggestion and decided to take a lap around the haunted house before making plans, so the two regrouped and stepped into the depths of the haunted house.
Conner turned his head and glanced around. He always felt that the ghost faces hanging on the wall were a bit disgusting.
