#62 - Who can't fly?
Peter was sitting on his hospital bed, looking at the latest issue of superhero comics Mary Jane had brought him.
However, judging by the smile on his face, it was hard to tell if he was actually paying attention to the magazine.
Flipping through the pages, Peter's eyes flickered. He saw a villain in the comic, a dinosaur man. His reptilian features reminded him of himself.
Peter's thoughts suddenly became chaotic, and he didn't even notice when he crumpled a page.
"It was all just a dream," Peter reassured himself, but his brain kept flashing back to fragmented images.
Fine scales, sharp claws, and a crystal man?
Peter was troubled. His memory always stopped there, and he couldn't remember anything further. He only remembered seeing Yang Le when he woke up and being dragged to the hospital by him.
He was drowsy on the way to the hospital and passed out again. When he woke up again, he was startled awake by these suddenly recalled memories.
He thought the hospital would discover he wasn't human and that the government would dissect him for research, as was always depicted on TV, but these weren't his biggest concerns.
He worried about whether Uncle Ben and Aunt May would get into trouble, what his friends would think of him, and what Mary Jane would think of him.
Just as he was worrying, reality stunned him.
The hospital's examination showed that he was normal. Aside from a mild concussion, the doctor urged him to exercise more, but everything else was normal.
"I hope it was just a dream," Peter sighed. He used to like the dinosaur man villain, but now he felt like he had PTSD from seeing him.
"What dream? Can you share it with me?"
A shrill, manic voice rang out. Before Peter could react, the window glass shattered with a "bang," followed by a gust of wind sweeping through the room.
"Ah!" Peter was startled by the sudden attack. Before he could react, a figure flew in from the window.
"Hahahahahaha!"
The person let out a shrill, manic laugh. Peter forced himself to calm down, but he was shocked again by the person's appearance.
The person was standing on a silver, winged object, which kept him hovering in the air. He wore a dark green suit of armor, which reflected a disgusting light under the moonlight. The most terrifying thing was the mask on his head, which was hideous and ugly, like a goblin.
"What kind of monster are you!?" Peter exclaimed, while constantly pressing the call button by the bed, hoping someone would come to save him.
"Monster? That's really hurtful," The person's manic tone didn't reveal any disappointment.
"I'd prefer you call me the Green Goblin, kid. Now, Uncle Green Goblin needs your help. Don't worry, there's a candy reward afterward! Hahahahahaha!"
After the Green Goblin finished speaking, he reached for Peter, while making a terrifying smirk.
"No! Save me! Four Arms!" Peter curled up into a ball, closed his eyes, and called out the name of the only person he thought could save him, although he didn't have much hope.
The Green Goblin cackled as he lunged at Peter. Just as he was about to succeed, an agile figure jumped in from the window and kicked him, sending him flying into the wall.
The flying glider, now unmanned, remained in place.
Peter heard the Green Goblin's laughter stop abruptly, along with the sound of a heavy object falling to the ground. He immediately opened his eyes to check the situation.
Peter saw a slender figure, probably a woman, wearing a suit of armor with a combination of pink, white, and black colors. Although he couldn't see her face, for some reason, Peter felt that her figure looked familiar.
"I'm sorry to disappoint you, Four Arms isn't here."
The person spoke, her voice clearly processed, with a synthesized electronic tone.
"Uh, thank you for saving me," Peter didn't know what to say for a moment, so he could only thank her first. The situation had unfolded too quickly, and he hadn't fully processed it yet.
"You're welcome," Gwen shrugged, saying indifferently.
At this time, the Green Goblin, who had fallen to the ground, also got up. The Green Goblin noticed the spider web pattern on Gwen's battle suit, as well as the unusual force of her earlier kick and her swift movements, and immediately guessed that Gwen was the person bitten by the radioactive spider.
But unfortunately, he didn't know the real identity of the person bitten by the radioactive spider. Cindy wouldn't tell her, but that didn't stop the Green Goblin from trash-talking.
"Let me see what we have here, a little spider in a cage for people to watch."
The Green Goblin put one hand on his hip, secretly pressing the glider's control button hidden on his belt, while saying suspicious words.
"For people to watch?" Gwen was indeed attracted by Norman's words. "What do you mean?"
Because of Yang Le's previous analysis, Gwen knew that she was likely being monitored. Now that the Green Goblin had said these words, it was hard not to attract her attention.
"What do you mean?" The Green Goblin smiled sinisterly.
"It means trick or treat!"
Before he finished speaking, the glider, which had been waiting aside, had already started. Two blades popped out of each wing, spinning as they flew towards Gwen.
"Watch out!" Peter, who saw it clearly, immediately reminded her.
But Gwen didn't even need to turn her head. She tapped the ground with her toes and jumped, dodging the slashes.
Seeing that his sneak attack had failed, the Green Goblin controlled the glider to stop spinning, jumped onto the flying glider, changed direction, and flew out of the window.
The ward was small and not suitable for him to fight in. As long as he got outside, he would have air superiority, and it would be easier to win.
Gwen saw the Green Goblin's plan, raised her arm, and shot out a web, sticking it to the Green Goblin's glider wing, preparing to pull him down.
However, the speed of the web was not as fast as the glider's speed, and the Green Goblin still flew out of the ward.
"Hahahahahaha!" The Green Goblin laughed肆意 after succeeding.
"A spider that can't fly can only be my target!"
"Oh?" Gwen walked to the window, put her hands on her hips, and looked at the smug Norman.
"Who said I can't fly?"
After speaking, Gwen jumped out of the ward.
Just when the Green Goblin thought the other party had lost her mind, Gwen's battle suit changed.
The battle suit first changed from a combination of pink, white, and black to green and black, and then Gwen's back began to bulge and distort, eventually turning into a backpack with a pair of wings, and then the battle suit returned to its original color.
"Fly to space, the universe is infinite!"
In the Green Goblin's shocked eyes, the backpack behind Gwen spewed out a flame, and then flew straight towards him.
"WTF!"
The Green Goblin was so shocked that he cursed, and quickly controlled the glider to continue to pull up, but the glider issued a warning. This height was almost the limit of this test machine.
