Chapter 10 010 The First Dance

Several huge chandeliers are suspended over the hall of Stillwater Manor, colorful flames are burning on the candles, and the magic device placed on the wall is constantly blowing out cool breeze with fragrance, all of which are so intoxicating.

But Mary was in a bad mood. After Diana Holden said those words, she felt that she didn't seem to have anything to ask her for advice.

"Miss Bennet, are you familiar with the Knights?" Miss Horton suddenly asked again.

Mary shook her head, "I've only known them for two days."

Miss Holden completely ignored Mary's answer. "That Phibs Knight," she seemed curious, "have you ever talked to him, doesn't he only care about magical creatures?"

"Basically," Mary smiled. Phoebe Snett would not be happy if she knew that this beautiful woman was interested in him. She decided to say another good word for him.

"Philips Knight's a nice fellow," she added, "and he's very helpful."

"Oh...that's great!" Miss Holden looked very happy, "My uncle's garden has been attacked by something recently, I want to ask him," she looked at Mary, "Miss Bennet , and I would like to ask you to introduce me."

So the two ladies went over together, and Mary said to Phoebe Snight that Miss Holden had some questions for him to ask, and then she became Victor Hastings' saviour, and he took the opportunity to take her aside .

"Oh, thank God," exclaimed Victor exaggeratedly, "it's a lot of work to talk to these two gentlemen. Mr. Phoebe Snett seems to be used to sneering, but his brother is a very good man, I said." I am not the heir of the Hastings family, and he was polite to me."

Mary had always had a bad impression of Bader Knight, so she shook her head, "Your Father is also a well-known figure, he must have heard of it."

"Maybe." Victor smiled. "Of course, he is also very famous. I heard that the business of Knight's family has grown a lot in the past few years." He quickly looked around, and then lowered his voice. "They're even said to do business with Muggles."

Mary didn't care about that, so she asked again, "Philips Knight mocking you?"

"Oh..." Victor touched his head, "It seems to be mainly aimed at his younger brother. Speaking of which, I'm afraid to get along with someone like him."

Mary didn't feel this way. Just as she was speaking, there was a sudden noise from the direction of the door. She turned around and saw Sophie, her brother, and some other guests walking in, talking and laughing.

"Well, Mary," Victor asked, "did Sophie say with whom she was going to have her first dance?"

"No," Mary recalled carefully, and she felt that Victor should be encouraged, so she smiled, "I'm afraid it's too late for you to invite her now."

"Then I'll go," Victor dropped the words, and then squeezed sideways through the gap in the crowd.

Mary was suddenly alone, her view was blocked by several men, and she could hardly see Sophie. At this time, the band started to tune, and the crowd became busy again, almost everyone was looking for a dance partner.Mary suddenly felt a little lost. Although she had been studying at Hogwarts for six years, the wizarding world in front of her still seemed so strange to her.

Suddenly Mary heard someone calling her, and she turned hastily. It was Phoebe Snight.

He still smiled, "Miss Bennet, why are you staying here alone? It's like this is not a dance party, where is your classmate?"

Mary explained, saying that Victor went to find Sophie.

"Oh, I happen to have the same purpose as him." Phoebe Snight smiled again. "Miss Bennet, I want to ask you if you would like to dance with me for the first time?"

Mary really didn't expect to get such preferential treatment, so that she forgot to agree immediately, and she just replied in a surprised tone, "Oh, Mr. Knight, I thought you would dance with Miss Horton."

"Baddell invited her," said Phoebe Snight in a very casual tone, and suddenly became serious again, "Miss Bennet, maybe you don't believe it, but these guests, I hardly know Know a few people."

Mary looked at him suspiciously, did he want to comfort her in this way?

"I hardly ever go to social events like this," he added, "so don't bother Bader to introduce them for me."

Mary laughed, "Fortunately, I still know you."

At this moment, the prelude to the dance music sounded, and Fibbes Knight held out his hand to her, "Miss Bennet, you haven't agreed to my request yet."

"Oh, of course," Mary handed him her hand graciously, she didn't want to miss the opportunity of the first dance.

Vincent and Miss Coneston stood at the lead dancer's position. Mary saw that Victor was not standing opposite Sophie. She looked around quickly, but she didn't see him either.

"Are you looking for that classmate of yours?" Phoebe Snight asked Mary as soon as the dance began, and she hastily agreed.

"He doesn't seem to be as lucky as me," he said again, "There are more men tonight, and you ladies will be busy later."

Mary didn't think so. "Oh, come on, Mr. Knight," she said with a self-deprecating smile, "I'm never welcome at balls."

"How many balls have you attended?" Phoebe Snight paused after asking this sentence, "Could it be that you still attended the balls of Muggles?"

"It's nothing," Mary smiled nonchalantly, "My Muggle parents always wanted me to live the life of a Muggle."

"So, what about your own thoughts?" He asked again.

"I've got to get a job," Mary replied, "otherwise I won't be able to live in the wizarding world after I graduate."

Phoebe Snett said nothing more, and as the circles began it occurred to Mary that she might ask him about his work.

When they all turned around, Mary was about to speak, but Phoebe Snight asked first, "Miss Bennet, do you have to look for a job? As far as I know, most young women, including witches and Muggles, It’s all about getting married.”

Although Mary felt that his question was a little rash, she still smiled, "I think it's easier to find a job."

She paused before adding, "However, I heard that it is not so easy for witches to find a job. Just now Miss Horton said that Gringotts is unlikely to accept students from Gryffindor College."

"Things may not be as bad as you think," replied Phoebe Snight, "and I have a suggestion."

He paused deliberately, and Mary could only plead, "Go ahead, Mr. Knight."

Now the last circles of the dance began, and Mary had to be patient to finish the dance, even though she was in a hurry.

After the two bowed to each other and stood together again, Fibbes Knight didn't keep Mary waiting any longer. "St. Mungo's Hospital in London usually needs a lot of female therapists," he said seriously, "maybe you can get one." Chance."

"St. Mungo's Hospital?" Mary was surprised. "They did come to the school to recruit, but I haven't considered it yet."

"It's still too late to think about it now," Phoebe Snight laughed again, "but let's think about it tomorrow, and have a good time tonight."

Before Mary could answer, Sophie suddenly emerged from the crowd and called her name.

"Come with me," she said, "and I'll introduce you to a few people."

Mary only had time to say "see you later" to Phi Bosnett, and was pulled away by Sophie, and when the two walked a distance, she complained to her, "I thought you were going to dance the first dance with Victor." For a dance, that's why I turned him down."

"Victor went looking for you, and Phibs Knight came to invite me," Mary hurriedly explained.

"Forget it, leave him alone," Sophie shook her head, the light reflected from the huge gem on her forehead pierced Mary's eyes, she led Mary to a group of young people, and quickly helped them For introductions, Mary didn't even remember all their names, except that they all came from wizarding families that lived in the Lake District.

Mrs. Windermere called Sophie not far away, and Sophie left in a hurry.Mary had no choice but to smile apologetically at the group of strangers in front of her. She didn't know where to start. At this moment, one of the ladies suddenly asked, "Miss Bennett, the one who danced with you just now is a tall man. Mr Tall Blonde?"

Mary thought that the other party remembered her last name, so she nodded and admitted.

"Who is he?" asked the lady again. "I am sure I have never seen him."

Mary answered truthfully.

Those young people expressed their astonishment at the same time, and the young lady shouted, "How could it be him!"

"Miss Bennet, is that Mr. Badernett here tonight?" Another gentleman next to him asked. He remembered Mary's surname, but he didn't intend to strike up a conversation with her. After the answer, he immediately turned to the previous lady.

"Oh, Eliza," he called her by her Christian name, "I suggest you consider Phoebe Snight's brother, who has a right of inheritance, and who I believe you will find more handsome than his brother."

Even though she was just listening in, Mary didn't like the talk at all, so she made up some random excuse, said goodbye to the group and left. However, if only in terms of appearance, she thinks Phoebe Snett is more handsome-his younger brother is certainly handsome, but he looks much healthier, probably because he often eats and sleeps in the wild.

Mary stood in a corner in a daze for a while, when the second dance started, she saw Victor finally stood opposite Sophie, and Miss Holden became Phoebe Snight's partner, as for him Brother, his partner became Miss Coneston.

Mary was beginning to regret having spent the opening hours of the ball talking to Miss Houghton, knowing that the conversation was fruitless, she might as well have made the acquaintance of a young man or two, and perhaps had a couple of extra dances. But now, she can only pin her hopes on Victor, and hope that when Sophie has no time to pay attention to him, he can still think of "other classmates" with conscience.

However, unexpectedly, after the second dance, Badernet actually came to Mary, and he wanted to invite her to the next dance.
