PS 143

Chapter 1

Taiwan time, five fifty in the morning.

"It's been seven years, and I'm finally back." I murmured to myself the moment I got off the plane with my luggage and stepped on the floor of the Chung Cheng Airport.

It would be a lie to say that I am not tired after the [-]-hour flight, but the anticipation of seeing Xiaojie still made me quicken my pace unconsciously.

Everything is carried out in a formulaic manner, including customs clearance and baggage claiming. The moment I walked out of the immigration hall with my luggage, I saw Xiaojie.

I pushed the car quickly, and he followed me to the exit of the entry channel.

"Sister! I miss you so much!" He hugged me tightly.

"I miss you too," I said.

Then I looked at him, the childish face in my memory has been replaced by a mature, stable and capable face.

"Congratulations, Dr. Su." I said with a smile.

"Oh, sister, don't embarrass me." He said embarrassingly.

He pushed my luggage, and I hooked his hand like I did in Taiwan before.

"Oh, it seems that I can't hook you up like this now? I wonder if she will be jealous?" I deliberately teased him.

"Oh, no, she is very mature and sensible." When Xiaojie said this, there was a sweetness on his face.

"Is it the same photo you sent me last time?" I asked him.

He nodded.

"It's been a long time, how many years? Three years? Four years?" I thought about the time when I received his card.

"Three and a half years," he said.

"Are you planning to get married?" I asked again.

"Yes, but probably not so soon. She's only graduated for two years." He looked at me and said.

"She is?" I wondered how they met.

"Sister." He said with a smile.

That's how we talked all the way to the car.

He helped me put my luggage in the car.

"When did you buy the car?" I asked looking at his car.

"Last year, but I didn't really have much time to drive. I'll drive it for you when you come back." He glanced in the rear mirror to make sure there was no car, and we left the parking lot.

"Take me to see Mom first, okay?" I asked after we got on the freeway.

"Shouldn't you go home and rest first?" he asked.

I shake my head.

"Okay." He nodded.

"How have you been all these years?" I asked after a while.

"It's okay, I gritted my teeth and survived seven years of medical school. I started as a small resident doctor and silently became an attending doctor." He said lightly, but I knew that that period was very hard.

"Well, you are really good." I said with a smile.

"You too. By the way, are you okay with the teacher?" I knew he would ask, but I didn't expect it to be so soon.

"We separated." I said calmly.

"Well, I already knew that." What he said shocked me.

"Why? Are you in contact with her?" I asked, startled.

He shook his head.

"Then how do you know?" I asked eagerly.

"All these years, she has taken care of Mom's tomb." He said, and I was even more speechless.

"What's going on here?" I didn't know what to think.

"I'll tell you when we get there. You should sleep for a while. You should be very tired after flying back." He threw me a coat, and I nodded.

Leaning back in my chair, watching the fast-moving scenery outside the window, I thought of 911.

Then, before I knew it, I fell asleep.

It was the sound of Jay pulling the handbrake that woke me up.

"Here we are," he said, opening the door and getting out of the car.

We walked to Mom's grave together.

I was stunned.

There are more bellflowers than I left, blooming under the July morning sky.

"I remember we came together before you were going abroad, and there weren't so many people back then." He said.

I nodded.

"One time I came here and found a lot more than before. I thought it was planted by the administrator uncle, but when I asked him, he said no, and he didn't know who it was." He paused and continued.

"Until two or three years ago, I happened to be on vacation on the anniversary of Mommy's death. When I came here, I saw the teacher's car. I knew it was her. Then I saw her watering the flowers and weeding." He looked at me and said.

"Is she okay?" I asked with concern.

"Well, it's still the same, she's as young as when I first met her, and she's really good," he said.

"Yeah." I stared at Mom's tombstone.

"Later she asked me how you were doing, and I didn't know you broke up. Sister, why didn't you tell me about this kind of thing?" Xiaojie's tone was slightly reproachful.

"I don't want you to worry. But it's just a lovelorn. It's okay to cry a little bit." I said with a wry smile.

"No, you love her so much, it won't be all right." Sure enough, he still understood me.

"Did she say anything else to you? About our breakup." I asked.

"I asked. I asked her why, and she said it was her selfish decision. She just wanted to give you wings. Now that you can fly well on your own, her mission is done. She doesn't want to be You have the burden of achievement," he told me.

"Troublesome? Did she say that?" I asked him in disbelief.

He nodded.

"Why, does she have such an idea?" I don't understand.

"She said that when she went to find you, she found that you had really grown up. She felt that you would be more successful without her. I think she still cares about your age gap." Xiaojie said his conclusion.

"Why, do you care about this? Doesn't she understand that without her, I wouldn't be where I am today?" I looked at Xiaojie and asked, with two lines of tears on my face.

"Sister, cry, you cry alone in America, right? Now, I can rely on you." He gently took me into his arms, and I couldn't help crying out.

After I finished crying, Xiaojie thoughtfully handed me the tissue paper.

"Sister, thank you for your hard work. I am alone in the United States." His hand was on my shoulder.

"Did she tell you where she is?" I asked in a thick nasal voice.

"I asked, but she didn't tell me. She just said, if you are really destined, you will meet again. She said that she is doing well, and she asks me not to worry, and also wants you not to worry." Xiao There was also disappointment in Jie's voice.

"I want to find her." I said, looking ahead.

"How to find it? She must have moved and changed schools. I feel like she doesn't want you to find her." Xiaojie said.

"There will be a way," I said.

"Okay, if there's anything I can do for you, just tell me." He smiled at me.

I gave him the same smile back.

Then we sat next to Mom's grave and reported to Mom what was going on.

"Mom, I'm back. Do you miss me? I think you know what happened to me, right? But, you shouldn't blame me, right?" I said, touching my mother's photo lightly.

"Mommy, don't blame my sister, she has really worked hard." Xiaojie spoke for me beside me.

"Mom, will you be upset or angry because I like girls? I'm sorry, I didn't mean to." I said apologetically.

"No, Mommy, you have seen it too. The teacher cares for my sister and you. You have to let my sister find her! I think she is the only one who can take good care of my sister...you Just accept it." Xiaojie is really cute.

"Mom, please, let me find her." I said sincerely.

Later, I told my mother about Philip, and Xiaojie was also very surprised.

"Oh my god, sister, there is a boy who treats you so well. I must thank him when I see him." Xiaojie said after listening.

"Look, he'll be back in three days." I said with a smile.

"Sister, if, I said if, you can't find the teacher..." he asked hesitantly.

"No." I knew what he was going to ask.

He stared at me blankly.

"If I really can't find her, then I will go back to the United States, but I will not be with him. I have made it clear to him before returning to Taiwan. I have accepted his kindness to me in the past few years, It was because I didn't have the energy to face what would happen after rejection...it was too tiring. What's more, my heart is already incomplete. It's not fair to give it to another person." I said quietly.

I understand my situation very well.

Just like her back then, a person who still lives in his heart cannot open his heart to love another person.

That's not fair to each other.

We sat down again, and then Xiaojie stood up first.

"Okay, I'll take you to breakfast and then go home, I'm going to work, you see what you're going to do, take care of yourself." He pulled me up together.

"Oh good." I followed behind him.

"Oh, by the way, I rented out my previous house, and I bought an apartment next to the hospital, so that it is more convenient for me to go to work." He said while driving.

"Why buy a car next to the hospital?" I asked him.

"Ah, I'm going out to play, and if you come back now, I'll open it for you." He said it quite naturally.

I smiled and shook my head, Xiaojie has really grown up.

When I got home, I sorted out my luggage a little bit, and Xiaojie gave me a phone call, saying that it would be easier to find me this way.

It occurred to me to write to Philip and Alisha.

After writing the letter, taking a shower, and just about to go to sleep, the phone rang.

"Hello, are you okay going back?" It was Philip.

"Well, good." I said.

"That's good, are you tired from flying?" he asked.

"A little bit, I want to sleep." I yawned.

"Okay, then go to sleep, I'll contact you when I get to Taiwan." He said.

I hung up the phone, lay down on the bed, and fell asleep quickly.

It was already afternoon when I woke up again.

I saw a text message from Xiaojie on the mobile phone, saying that he would go home for dinner with his girlfriend tonight.

I called him and asked when he would be home, and told him that I would prepare the cooking tonight and wait for them to come back.

After that I went to the supermarket downstairs to buy some things, and I must say, Taiwanese food is really cheap and good.

Going abroad will really make people wise, but when I came back, I found that I had a way to "change" four dishes and one soup enough for three people.

I remembered that time again, when I lived with the teacher.

We always sit at the dining table together and eat the dishes she cooks, but each other's bowls are always full of each other's dishes.

That is really a kind of happiness that takes care of each other.

"Now, who would you eat with? With someone? Or by yourself?" I asked questions that no one would answer.

Not long after, Xiaojie led a girl into the door.

"Sister, we're back." He said as soon as he entered the door.

"Okay, it's time to eat." I said as I brought out the soup.

"Wow! You have become so wise and strong since you went abroad." He was drooling at the table looking at the dishes on the table.

"Aren't you going to introduce me?" I looked at the pretty girl beside me and said.

"Oh, she's my girlfriend, Lan Xin, blue blue, Xin who owes one sound after another," he said.

"Hello, I'm Lan Xin. I've heard Xiaojie say a lot about you." She smiled and reached out to shake my hand.

"Hehe, yes, come on, let's talk while eating." I beckoned her to sit down and urged everyone to eat.

Dinner was going on in a relaxed and cheerful atmosphere.

I found out that she was a school girl two years later than Xiaojie, and she chose to be a doctor in the emergency room after graduation.

"Why did you choose the emergency room?" I asked curiously.

"I haven't really thought about this question, I just think it's a very challenging subject." She said with a smile.

"Is it hard work?" I asked her.

"Sometimes, it's tiring when you encounter open wounds or need emergency surgery." Although she said this, I could see the love for work in her eyes.

"It's so special, no wonder Xiaojie likes you." I have a good impression of her.

"Does my sister have a boyfriend?" Lan Xin suddenly asked this question.

I saw Xiaojie's smile froze, and I was also taken aback for a moment.

"Did I ask something I shouldn't have asked?" she said apologetically when she saw our reaction.

"It's nothing, it's just, it's complicated. (It's complicated.)" I said.

"Oh, sorry, I accidentally asked the wrong question." Sorry was written all over her face.

"It's okay, it's just that this is a very long story. I can tell you what you want to hear, but you just have to be mentally prepared." I smiled softly.

"Oh yes, Su Xiaojie, you go to collect the dishes and wash the dishes, we are going to women'stalk." She turned her head and said to Xiaojie, and took my hand to go to the living room.

I laughed, I like this girl, I believe Xiaojie must be very happy with her.

We sat on the sofa and she hugged the pillow and looked at me like a child waiting to hear a story.

"You're cute." I couldn't help laughing.

"No, I feel that my sister's story must be very exciting, so be prepared to listen to the story." She said innocently.

"It's hard for me to imagine you in the emergency room when you're like this." I said honestly.

"Oh, that's not important. After work, of course I have to leave those in the hospital." She said with a smile.

I laughed and started telling her stories about my life, her and him.

I never knew that it took more than two hours to tell the story of nearly ten years.

When he finished speaking, Xiaojie was already busy with his own affairs in the room.

"Oh my God, sister, your story is really... so cool! But it's also so sad." She said, looking at me after listening.

"Hehe, that's why I'm going back to Taiwan to see if I can stop being sad." I said.

"So, are you looking for a teacher when you come back?" She asked directly.

"Well, I came back to find her." I nodded.

"I really want to take a look at the Porsche too, haha!" she said like a child.

"Haha! If I find her, I'll let you sit." I said with a smile.

"Okay, you're right!" She actually stretched out her hand to tick me off.

We laughed together, this girl is really cute.

"Ah, right! I remember the year I just graduated, maybe two years ago, one night I received a patient who was brought in with a Porsche. It was a girl. Her shoulder was hit by broken glass. The wound was so big. It's okay. Everything else is fine. I was scared at the time, thinking how could a girl race like this? Listening to you now, it seems really possible.” When we finished laughing, she said this.

"Really? What happened to the patient?" I asked.

"Later, I had nearly [-] stitches on my shoulder, but it took a long time to clear the broken glass. Fortunately, I went home after a few days of recuperation. But she was so strong that she didn't shed tears or complain of pain. She even managed the hospitalization herself. ..." she recalled the situation at that time.

"Do you remember the name of that patient?" Somehow, I suddenly thought of the teacher, who was equally strong and stubborn.

"I forgot, but I can go back and take a look for you. I will ask Xiaojie to tell you about it in two days." She said straightforwardly.

"Uh...but isn't that considered leaking other people's privacy? It's against the law..." I said.

"Ah, I didn't even think of that...but don't you want to know?" she asked with expectant eyes.

"I guess, I just don't want you in trouble," I told her.

"Oh, I'll be careful, don't worry." She patted me on the shoulder.

"Is that so..." I was still apprehensive.

"Okay, that's it, I'm going to talk to Su Xiaojie." She jumped off the sofa and went to find Xiaojie.

I pictured in my head, if one day they get married and start a family together.

I think they'd be a great couple.
