[HP] End of Death
Chapter 89 Occlumency
Harry huddled alone in his and Ron's bedroom, looking at the cleanly painted walls and the empty frames of Phineas Nigellus on them, filled with disgust at himself.
He had just overheard the conversation between Moody and Mr. and Mrs. Weasley with his retractable ear, and learned that they suspected that he could see through Voldemort's snake eyes because Voldemort had possessed him.
He looked at his hands, they looked so clean, but now they made him feel dirty and disgusting.
He's not clean anymore, Harry thought, he's possessed by Voldemort... The weapon he's been looking for is him, he should know why they keep guarding him, because they're afraid he'll suddenly attack others... He is dangerous, a victim...
There was a knock on the door suddenly, and Harry reluctantly went to open the door, only to find Hermione standing outside the door: "Can you come out? I want to talk to you."
"What are you doing here?" Harry asked, following her down the stairs. "I thought you were going skiing with your parents."
"Well, to be honest, skiing really isn't for me, so I'm here for Christmas." She had snow on her head and her face was flushed from the cold, "but don't tell Ron, I told him skiing is very difficult. Great because he keeps laughing at me."
They came to the living room, and Harry was surprised to find both Ron and Ginny sitting on the sofa waiting for him.
"We're all worried about you, Harry," Ron said before Harry could speak, and Harry was about to retort when he went on, "But you've been avoiding us—"
"Yeah, but I don't need your worries—" Harry growled.
"Then you're a bit silly," Ginny said angrily. "Among the people you know, I'm the only one who has been possessed by a mysterious person. I can tell you what it's like."
Harry stood there for a while, then came back to his senses and turned to look at her: "I forgot."
"You're lucky," said Ginny coldly.
"I'm sorry," Harry apologized sincerely, "so... do you think I'm possessed?"
"Can you remember everything you've done?" Ginny asked. "Are there big gaps where you don't know what you've done?"
Harry tried to remember, "No."
"Then You-Know-Who isn't attached to you," Ginny said firmly. "When he attached to me, I didn't know what I did for hours. I found myself in a place, but didn't know How did you get there?"
Harry felt relieved almost involuntarily, although he was still skeptical: "But I'm in the body of a snake, as if I were a snake... If Voldemort magically transported me to London—?"
"You never left your bed, buddy," said Ron, "I saw you tossing and turning in there a minute before I woke you up..."
Harry started pacing, walking back and forth...their words were not just reassuring, they made sense...I'm not the weapon, Harry thought, his heart overflowing with joy and relief that Voldemort wasn't possessed On my body……
He kept this good mood until after dinner, when Snape suddenly came over and said he wanted to have a talk with him.
Ten minutes later, Harry walked out of the room, and both Ron and Hermione noticed that his face was rather ugly.
"What's the matter, buddy?" Ron and Hermione looked at each other and asked worriedly.
"I'll have to learn Occlumency with Snape when school starts." Harry sighed.
"Dumbledore wants you to stop having those dreams about Voldemort," said Hermione quickly, "you won't miss them, will you?"
"Remedial lessons with Snape?" Ron's voice was full of fear. "I'd rather have nightmares."
With Snape's office due at six o'clock on Monday night, Harry's first day back at school was dreadful. And the DA members were all looking forward to asking him if he would hold a party tonight, but he could only refuse with an embarrassed smile: "Sorry, I really want to hold a party, but I can't tonight, I...I want to replenish the magic Medicine class..."
"Remedial Potions?" Zacharias Smith blocked Harry in the hall after lunch, raising his eyebrows, "God, you must be terrible, Snape doesn't often give remedial classes, does he?" ?”
Smith left arrogantly, and Ron glared at him angrily from behind: "Do you want me to curse him? I can still hit him."
"Forget it," said Harry, dismayed, "everybody would think that, wouldn't they? Think I'm stupid—"
At six o'clock in the evening, Harry slowly got up and left the lounge, heading towards Snape's office. As the distance approached, the ominous feeling in his heart became stronger and stronger. When standing in front of that door, he wished that he was not here, anywhere, as long as it was not here.
Harry took a deep breath, knocked on the door and entered.
After a few minutes, Harry's sense of foreboding kicked in.
"Stand up and get your wand out, Potter. You can use your wand to disarm me, or defend yourself in any other way you can think of," said Snape.
"What are you going to do?" Harry asked nervously, looking at Snape's wand in horror.
"I'm going to get into your brain," Snape said softly, "and we're going to see how resistant you are. I hear you've demonstrated resistance to the Imperius Curse...you'll find that something like that is going to be used here. Ability... Now, prepare... Legilimency!"
Snape struck suddenly, before Harry was ready to resist. The things in the office flickered and disappeared before his eyes, his memory was slowly rewinding like a movie, and he could no longer see everything around him.
The snake he let out at 11...he blew up his aunt...Hermione was petrified lying in the school hospital...in the screaming shack, Draco came up and licked his lips the ice cream...
No, you can't watch this...it doesn't let you know-!
He felt a sharp pain in his knee, the surrounding scene changed, and his vision gradually became clearer.Back in Snape's dark, cold office, he found himself on the ground, one knee banging heavily on the desk leg.He looked up, and Snape was standing in front of him rubbing his wrist, where there was a red welt that looked like a branding.
"Do you want to use the Stinging Charm?" Snape asked coldly.
"No." Harry said through gritted teeth, getting up from the ground.
"I think so." Snape's tone was contemptuous. "You let me in too deeply. You lost control."
"Did you see it all?" Harry didn't know if he wanted to hear the answer or not.
"Some fragments." Snape curled his lips, and Harry's heart hung in his throat, but unexpectedly, the man didn't say anything more.
"For the first time, though, it's not too bad." Snape raised his wand again. "You finally stopped me, though it took a lot of time yelling. You have to concentrate and use your brain to resist." I don't need a wand."
"I'll try," said Harry angrily, "but you didn't tell me how!"
"Polites, Potter," said Snape savagely. "Now, I want you to close your eyes. Shut out your thoughts, Potter, put aside all your emotions...you haven't done it! Potter, you need to discipline yourself." ...one-two-three- Legilimency!"
A black dragon bared its teeth and claws in front of him... His parents waved to him in the Mirror of Erised... On the dark hillside of the tomb, the moonlight illuminated the pale face of the blond boy...
"Do not--!"
He knelt down on the ground again, his face buried in his hands, dripping with sweat.Harry gasped for breath, still replaying that nightmarish night in his mind, still in shock.
"Get up!" snapped Snape. "Get up! You didn't do it, you didn't try! You're giving me a weapon by giving me what you're afraid of!"
Harry stood up, heart beating violently.Snape looked paler and angrier than usual, though not nearly as angry as Harry.
"I - tried - tried!" he yelled.
"I told you to put aside your feelings!"
"Really? I think it's hard to do." Harry said sarcastically.
"Then you can be easily used by the Dark Lord!" Snape snapped mercilessly, "proud, sentimental fools who can't control their emotions, wallow in sad memories, and make themselves so vulnerable Stimulation—in a word, weaklings, they are vulnerable to his magic! How easily he can penetrate your mind, Potter!"
"I'm not weak," whispered Harry, furious and feeling like he was about to punch Snape.
"Then prove it! Control yourself!" Snape reprimanded. "Control your anger, control your brain! Here we go! Get ready! Legilimency!"
Uncle Vernon takes them to the cabin in a storm...he falls off the broom, the bone in his arm disappears...a kiss in the toilet room of the Pig's Head...singing around the stadium, he beats the boy ...the dangling curtains of the Room of Requirement...
"Enough, Potter!" The man's stern voice woke up his endless nightmare, Harry opened his eyes suddenly, he was lying on the ground, and Snape was staring at him.
They looked at each other silently for a while, and the man said coldly, "Get up, Potter. I think I'll stop here today. I want you to come at the same time on Wednesday, and we'll continue practicing."
"Okay." Harry rubbed the back of his aching head and stood up unsteadily.
"You get rid of all emotions every night before you go to bed—to keep your mind blank and calm, understand?"
"Understood," he replied, but barely listened.
"Careful, Potter... I'll know if you've practiced..."
Slinging his schoolbag over his shoulder, Harry walked slowly towards the door.As he opened the door, he heard Snape say something behind his back, which made his spine tense: "I don't care about your affairs, Potter, but this will be the easiest way for the Dark Lord to take advantage of you." one point……"
Harry stopped in his tracks, but immediately picked up his pace and walked out.
He had just overheard the conversation between Moody and Mr. and Mrs. Weasley with his retractable ear, and learned that they suspected that he could see through Voldemort's snake eyes because Voldemort had possessed him.
