That Alien Feeling
Chapter 2
"Hey," Helen poked her head into Adam's office, "I'm leaving. I'm going to the little Italian restaurant on the corner, come together?"
"Okay," said Jack, "I'm starving. I didn't have lunch today."
"Sorry, I can't go." Adam said and turned off the computer.
Jack snorted. "Adam has an important meeting at the cafe across the way."
Adam glanced at him lightly, picked up the box on the table and went out.
That didn't scare Jack. "Seriously, buddy," he caught up with Adam, "Why don't you just ask that kid out? What are you worrying about? Yes, he looks pretty young, like a minor, but It's not against the law. You keep eating his tofu with your eyes, and I'm so tired of seeing it, it's disgusting."
"I didn't eat his tofu with my eyes." Adam replied.
"Please. That kid will go crazy when he smiles at you. I'll watch him. If you were a dog, you would have wagged your tail and licked his face."
Adam gritted his teeth and sighed. "Stop it, Jack. Harry is a friend, that's all, nothing more."
"why?"
"Because he's straight and engaged."
And there are other reasons too.
Harry... too good to belong to someone like him.Harry was as bright and warm as the sun, and everything good, pleasant, kind, everything he could think of, was concentrated in this one person.Sometimes he had to pinch himself to make sure he wasn't creating Harry in a dream: the rare man who was as good on the inside as he was on the outside.
It was just a stupid crush, he told himself. He's infatuated with a boy like a silly kid.Harry may be of legal age, but sometimes he looks so innocent that Adam wants to hold him in his arms and save him from the cruelty and filth of the world. He's filthy himself, and despite all his affection and protectiveness for that strange boy, he still wants something. He wanted to bask in Harry's sweetness, to smear him with his greedy hands and mouth, to ravage him, to make him less than perfect. The desire made him feel like a bloody pervert, because Harry genuinely thought they were friends. And they were friends, of course. He wanted more, and it wasn't Harry's fault.
"Unfortunate, man." Jack patted him on the shoulder.
Adam just shrugged. He doesn't want to talk about it.
Saying goodbye to Jack, Adam walked towards the familiar cafe across the street.
He pushed open the door, and the doorbell rang joyfully.Harry looked over and smiled at him.Adam smiled back and walked to the counter.
The cafe was quite lively that evening, and there were several customers in front of him.Adam took this opportunity to look at Harry who was receiving other guests.
Harry brushed his chestnut hair back, and his porcelain-smooth skin was as soft and flawless as ever.He listened carefully to the old woman at the head of the line, his blue eyes were kind and serious; she gave him a generous tip, and a sweet smile appeared on his pink lips immediately.Adam could understand the old lady: he'd spent quite a bit of money at the little cafe lately, too.
The old woman finally said goodbye to Harry reluctantly. Then two little girls - twins around the age of six - stepped forward and pointed excitedly at the chocolate cake. "Give us the cake, please." They said in unison, and began to dig out their pockets. It was probably all their savings. Coins rolled everywhere, and some even fell to the ground.
Harry smiled down at the little girls and began counting coins. Not only did he not seem annoyed, but he liked them very much. "Is today your birthday?"
The two little girls shook their heads together. "We just love chocolate," one of them said.
"And cake." Another added.
"So we're 'killing two birds with one stone'." The first little girl told solemnly.
Harry winked at them.Adam could see he didn't quite get it - he probably didn't understand the idiom either - but Harry didn't bother, and smiled broadly as he handed them the cake. "Here comes the cake, my dears."
Adam was sure that the money from the little girls was not enough to buy the cake, because Harry took some money out of his own pocket and put it with the little girls' coins. He watched it all, trying to keep himself from getting deeper and deeper.
The next customer was a young man about Harry's age.
"Sorry, man, but what are you wearing?" he said with a laugh.
Harry frowned slightly, looking down at himself.Adam smiled slightly. He had known Harry for three weeks and was so used to his strange tastes that he had become oblivious to his strange attire.Fortunately, the owner of this cafe doesn't practice uniforms.
He was wearing a pair of old jeans that day, and under his apron was a loose, bright orange shirt with spots of blue and green. It was an ugly dress, but somehow it looked cute on Harry.
"I don't understand," Harry said to the customer, blinking.
The man snorted disdainfully. "I wouldn't wear that orange thing you're wearing. Damn, even my grandma wouldn't wear it!"
Harry's expression darkened.Adam was pissed off by the guy who made such an insult.
"Oh," said Harry, touching his shirt. "I bought it with my first paycheck."
"Sorry, but it's really ugly," the man said. "Bring me black coffee, please."
Harry silently brought him coffee and said goodbye with a polite smile.
When they were alone at the counter, Adam said at once, "He's talking nonsense. It's not a bad dress, Habbo. You look lovely in it."
Harry smiled at him, rubbing the lining of his shirt again. "You don't have to lie to me," he waved his hand pretending not to care. "I know I have weird taste, and...yeah." He picked up a rag and wiped down the spotless counter.
"Hey." Adam put a hand on Harry's shoulder, and Harry looked at him. "I'm not lying to you, baby. Don't mind that idiot. Honestly, the shirt is kinda hot, but you look gorgeous in it."
Harry smiled, and finally there was light in his eyes again. "It's a soft dress, that's why I bought it. I didn't think the color was scary or anything. I like it. It makes me happier on a gray rainy day, and London is often gloomy and wet of."
"Just don't mind the others as long as you like it," Adam said, "but no matter how much I say it, I think you look attractive." You've always been attractive.
Harry giggled. "Thanks." He made coffee according to Adam's usual taste and handed it over. "Anything else?"
"Actually, there is." Adam put the box he brought from the office on the counter. "For you."
Harry looked from the box to Adam, surprised. "Give it to me? Is it a gift?"
"Right." Adam replied.
Harry looked at the calendar on the wall, frowning slightly. "I didn't know today was gift-giving day," he said hesitantly.
"Not really." Adam shrugged. "I just like to go around giving presents to my friends, and I don't need a reason." He lied, and he hoped Harry wouldn't tell Jack about it; Jack wouldn't let him go.He could almost hear Jack tease: Where's my gift, Crawford?
"Oh," Harry bit his lip, "but I didn't have a present for you."
"It's okay, Xiaoha," Adam said, "Come on, open it and have a look while there are no guests."
"We're already closed, actually," said Harry, walking over to lock the door.He went back to the counter and picked up the box, his face glowing with excitement.God, why is he so annoying?
Adam watched as Harry carefully opened the box and examined its contents.
"It's a cell phone," Harry said after a pause. His expression was a little strange.
"Hope you like it."
"I like it." Harry said softly. He looked at the trademark, pursed his lips, and his eyes hesitated. "But it's expensive, isn't it? I remember seeing this on TV."
It's Samsung's latest flagship, and it's certainly not cheap, but you don't need to tell Harry.
"Don't worry, I didn't use the deposit." Adam was telling the truth.A staunch celibate, the money he makes is rarely spent on others. He would help his parents financially, but they lived in the country and insisted they didn't need much, so his account balance was pretty good.
Harry glanced at him. "I'm not stupid, Adam. I know this phone isn't cheap. I can't have it."
His stubbornness looked so lovely that Adam wanted to kiss the little crease between his brows, and then his tight pink lips.
Adam almost showed a painful expression. He wanted Harry so badly that it was beyond the point of being interesting.
"I can't return it," he said, "and I already have a phone. Looks like I wasted my money."
Harry smiled. "You're really bad, you know that, don't you?" Harry took a few steps closer and kissed Adam tenderly on the cheek. "Thank you so much, really. Now I'm just like any other normal Earthling!"
"You're a freak," Adam said fondly, telling himself that his cheeks weren't tingling from that genuine touch. He's not that pathetic yet.
"That's right." Harry turned on the phone, his expression extremely focused and cute as hell.Sometimes Adam would think that no matter where Harry came from, it must not be a place with advanced technology-Harry is not very good at using all technological products, and always has an attitude of trying.Adam tried to ask Harry's hometown countless times, but Harry just repeated the first answer - he was an alien - and then changed the subject with a smile. This made Adam curious. It's kind of weird for a young boy to live abroad and seem to be completely left alone. But he wouldn't press, he'd tell Harry when he was ready.
"Can I have your number?" Harry smiled, as if it was a great pleasure to say it.
"I've saved it," Adam said. "You can call or text me anytime."
Harry blinked quickly, then nodded and turned away. "I was wondering..." He hesitated, "Are you free now? How about coming to my house to watch a movie or something? I subscribed to Netflix yesterday! Let's watch Netflix together?"
Adam choked on his coffee and coughed.
Harry ran to him immediately. "Are you okay?" He patted Adam on the back.Harry had a look of innocence on his face.Unsurprisingly, Harry didn't mean that at all.
Adam cleared his throat and loosened his tie. "I'm fine."
"Want to watch Netflix?"
He should refuse. He really shouldn't be around this straight, non-single, engaged guy anymore. This is looking for abuse.
But Harry was looking at him expectantly, his violet eyes wide open with sincerity; hell, he was completely hooked on the kid.
"Okay," Adam said. "But...you should look up what 'Netflix' means. Don't be misunderstood in the future, Habbo."
Note ①: Netflixandchill, a new buzzword in Europe and the United States, refers to having sex with people while turning on the TV (usually Netflix) at home.
Five minutes later, Harry came out of the dressing room with a flushed face.
"Can we go?" Adam took out the car keys.
Harry just nodded.
"I asked Samantha what 'Netflix' means." Harry sat in Adam's passenger seat, "It's so embarrassing."
Adam smirked and started the engine. "Fortunately, you told me that you didn't say anything wrong to others. Another person would definitely think you were dating."
Harry cooed, pressing his hand to his hot face. "Fortunately, I have you, remind me when I become a silly foreigner."
"Well, didn't you tell me that you were an alien? You, an alien, understand English quite well."
"Thank you." Harry said this with an expression that Adam didn't quite understand.
"Where do you live?" Adam asked.
Harry gave him the address and Adam entered it into the navigation system.
It didn't take long to arrive.Ten minutes later, Harry opened the apartment door and invited him in.
too small. This is Adam's first impression. The apartment has only a tiny kitchen and a tiny cabin that will accommodate an old brown sofa, a small coffee table, and a TV.Adam looked at the short and hard sofa, imagining Harry sleeping on it, and almost showed disgust. This sofa looks very uncomfortable.
"It's not great here," said Harry, a little embarrassed.
"Should show you my first apartment in London," Adam smiled as he sat down on the sofa.It was as hard to sit as it looked. "Maybe the place is bigger, but I share it with three people."
"I'm going to get some popcorn. Would you like to choose a movie?"
Adam agreed with a hum, and Harry went into the kitchen.Adam looked around, a little uneasy. It's claustrophobic to stay in this place for too long.
When Harry returned with a bowl of popcorn and two cans of Diet Coke, though, he didn't say anything.Harry seemed to be in high spirits, and Adam didn't want to embarrass him or disappoint him.London rents are high.It was admirable that Harry was able to get his feet here on his own.
Harry plopped down next to Adam, spread a blanket over their legs, and placed the popcorn bowl between them.
For a moment, Adam dared not open his eyes.It took a lot of effort to let himself relax. This sofa is so fucking small.
"Why didn't you pick a movie?" Harry asked.
"I want to wait for you to choose."
"Okay, but don't complain if you don't like it!"
Adam watched Harry, browsing Netflix, and felt a burning desire: He wanted to put his arms around Harry's shoulders, to hold him closer. He tried to suppress the feeling.
He picked up the stack of DVDs on the coffee table to divert his attention.Looking at the headlines, he raised his eyebrows: "Are you interested in science fiction?"
Harry is blushing?
"Samantha loves science fiction so much, she lent me a few movies that Netflix didn't have, and they all seemed interesting."
"I didn't expect you to like movies like "War of the Worlds②", which has a lot of violent and gory scenes." Harry mentioned that he didn't like the violence in movies.
Note ②: War of The Worlds, here refers to the one starring Tom Cruise in 2005.
Harry stared unhappily at the DVD in Adam's hand. "I don't like it very much. I don't think the plot makes sense. Aliens don't want to invade Earth. It's ridiculous. There are countless planets without sentient beings. Why do they want to invade Earth?"
Adam stared at him in surprise. "I didn't expect you to be so excited," he said a little amused. "Do you really believe in aliens, Habbo?"
Harry looked at him. "you do not believe?"
Adam shrugged. "Never given it much thought." He smoothed the furrow between Harry's brows with his thumb. "But who knows. There are hundreds of millions of planets in the universe. From a probabilistic point of view, it is impossible for intelligent creatures to exist only on the earth. It would be too arrogant to think that people on earth are the only intelligent creatures."
Harry nodded. "Intelligent beings are rare in the universe—" He paused. "I mean, I believe it's rare," he corrected himself, looking away. "But it's not that rare, is it? There are 1000 billion stars in the Milky Way alone. Of course, not all stars have planets, and not all planets are habitable, but there may be thousands in the Milky Way alone Advanced civilization, this is still very possible."
"But how many of these civilizations survived to develop interstellar navigation technology?" Adam muttered to himself, bewitched by the passionate flame in Harry's eyes. For some reason, Harry was particularly interested in this topic.
"You're right." Harry nodded. "In fact, many civilizations self-destruct when technology develops to a high enough level." Harry popped a popcorn into his mouth. "Okay, enough talking!" he said, picking up another DVD. "How about this one? I guess it's the sequel to the movie I saw yesterday. I really like that one!"
"Well, I've seen the first one, but I haven't seen the sequel yet," Adam said.
So they ended up watching Star Trek Into Darkness.
Movie is ok.But most of the time Adam was staring at Harry again, listening to his comments, so he wasn't too sure if it was a good movie or not.
"This 'Supreme Directive ③' makes so much sense," says Harry at a certain point. "There is absolutely no way to interfere with the development of other civilizations, with unfortunate consequences. I don't understand why Spock would approve of this crazy plan in the first place."
Note ③: The term "Star Trek" refers to the highest principle that the Star Federation needs to abide by in its deep space exploration, that is, it must not interfere with the development process of other races or civilizations, even if it is out of good intentions.
Adam laughed, brushing Harry's cheek lightly with his fingers. "Baby, it's just a movie, don't take it too seriously. There are no aliens, you forgot? Well, maybe there are, but we haven't met yet."
Harry stared at him wide-eyed, then laughed dryly. "I'm an alien, have you forgotten?"
Adam smiled fondly and rolled his eyes. They continue watching the movie.
But Adam noticed right away that Harry had grown quiet.
He squeezed Harry's shoulder. "Hey, are you okay?"
Harry bit his lip thoughtfully, his eyes wandering somewhere.Adam has rarely seen him look so serious.
"Can you accept others lying?"
Adam frowned, stopped by the sudden question. "I think it depends," he looked at Harry, "sometimes lying is the best policy."
Harry nodded. He still doesn't look at Adam.
"What's the matter, baby?" Adam asked.
Harry swallowed, forcing a faint smile. "Don't worry about me, I've been in a weird mood recently. I guess I'm homesick. It's the first time I've been away from home for such a long time." He grinned. "Maybe I'm just too immature, no better than a baby." He looked around the small room. "You know what? I love it here, but it's getting more and more lonely. I'm kind of afraid of being alone. Before I came here, I almost never made decisions, and now I make them every day. But You know what's the weirdest thing? I enjoy making decisions. I guess I'll miss the freedom to make my own decisions; it won't be possible when I get home."
Adam looked at his bowed head.Adam felt that, as he got to know him better, he disliked Harry's family less and less. "Habbo," he asked, "how are you...how is your family doing?"
Harry blinked, then laughed out loud. "It's not that bad. I'm at home... comfortable and peaceful. If I don't want to, I can stop working for the rest of my life. People around me do expect certain things from me, but most of them I can do without. My family dotes on me and I love them too." Harry sighed. "I miss them very, very much." He fiddled with his phone lazily. "I love it here, but there was also a feeling of loneliness until I met you. I miss being connected to other people... Now I kind of understand why Mom and Dad chose to punish me this way." He smiled weakly. "You shouldn't have given me this phone. If I bother you every time I feel lonely, it's your own fault."
"Brass me any time you want; no problem, Habbo." Adam looked at him inquiringly. It was the first time he had seen him so depressed. "Hey, want a hug?"
Harry blinked. "give me a hug?"
Adam smiled and opened his arms. "come over."
Harry bit his lip, then moved over and curled up on Adam's lap.
Adam froze. This is completely different from what he imagined.
After a while, he wrapped his arms around Harry's back and tightened his arms, hoping that what he conveyed was only the comfort and reassurance of friendship, and not like a possessive pervert trying to hide the boy inside himself , let him no longer belong to this world.mine.
"Well," Harry murmured, burying his face in Adam's neck, "it feels so good. I haven't been hugged since I was a kid."
A wrinkle formed on Adam's forehead. "What?" Frankly, the more he learned about Harry's family, the more uneasy he became. "Where are your parents?"
It took Harry a moment to answer. "It's not the same as it is here. Over there, we tend to be...mental intimacy, not physical."
Adam scoffed, "Sounds like a bunch of hippies."
"Hey!" said Harry, "what's it like being a hippie?"
"Not much," Adam said, stroking Harry's back and burying his nose in Harry's hair.It has a sweet taste.mine my mine.
He managed to get the unhealthy possessiveness out of his head, but his arms were still tightly wrapped around Harry without leaving a gap.Harry hummed happily, clinging to him even tighter, like a clingy monkey boy.It looked like he was craving physical contact. No wonder, he hasn't been hugged for many years.
Adam kissed Harry on the head.Love washed over his whole body, so strong that he couldn't bear it.
Then, he felt fear.
Because no matter how much he longed for it, this young man in his arms did not belong to him.Harry gave him an unreal feeling, as if one day he would disappear from his life, as if he had burst into his life, caught off guard.
"Okay," said Jack, "I'm starving. I didn't have lunch today."
"Sorry, I can't go." Adam said and turned off the computer.
Jack snorted. "Adam has an important meeting at the cafe across the way."
