Chapter 4 Tom and His Friends

Remus couldn't figure out how he had offended James.

Ever since a certain day, every time James met Remus, he walked around with his head held high and a haughty snort from his nostrils.

Remus reflected for three days but still couldn't understand.

"Boom-"

"Does this door owe you money?" Sirius was lying in bed watching a horror movie, and James' extra sound effects made him shudder and drop his iPad to the floor.

"Humph!"

"You won't meet that person again, will you?"

"Isn't it?" James said sourly. "What does he want to do when he gets a bargain?"

"What did he take advantage of from you?"

James was almost yelling, "Lily smiled at him a bit today, but she didn't say hello to me!"

Sirius: ...

"Isn't it because you made the snot man sick?"

"No!" James refused to admit it, "Someone must have spoken ill of me to her behind her back!"

This is really a person sitting at home, and the pot comes from the sky.

"I'll go downstairs to buy a bottle of water to calm down." Sirius muttered and slipped out of the dormitory, just in time for Remus to open the door and come out, but he didn't want to meet James' imaginary rival in love so soon!

"Hello, Sirius." Remus said with grievance written all over his face, "Do you know what happened to James recently?"

"Emmm..." Sirius thought quickly, "You know, there are so many days in every month, right?"

Remus:? ? ?

"It's the mental imbalance caused by endocrine changes. Don't you feel irritable every once in a while?" Sirius blurted out, "In short, leave him alone, this guy hasn't passed puberty yet."

Remus suddenly realized: "I thought I had offended him somewhere."

"No, no." Sirius pushed all the blame on James' head, "He's having convulsions all by himself, and he might be back to normal in a few days."

"Really?"

"Of course!"

Remus finally breathed a sigh of relief, "That's good."

"Hey." Sirius asked, "I heard that your kid is in trouble recently?"

"what?"

Sirius had a smirk on his face: "The little beauty who walked very close to you...what's her name?"

"Lily?"

"Yes!" Sirius patted Remus on the shoulder, "You can do it, and within a few days after school started, you met the most beautiful girl in the whole grade."

"No, no, no—" Remus explained in a repeated voice, "It's nothing, you're overthinking it. I'm actually not very familiar with her, it's just that we were partners in group activities..."

Sirius withdrew his hand in satisfaction.Remus is really an honest man, he shook his old self out without asking. "Isn't it? I thought you could develop and develop."

"You really think too much." Remus' ears were red, and he scratched the tip of his ear, "Why are you so gossip, Sirius?"

"Aren't I expressing my concern for the neighbors?" Sirius asked, "But I think Lily and that Snape have a good relationship too? Are they high school classmates?"

"Oh, no. They've known each other since childhood." Remus shrugged and replied honestly, "It seems like they've known each other since they were very young."

"Oh...that's it..." Sirius lit a piece of wax for James in his heart.

It turned out to be a childhood sweetheart!

Tom was escorted out of the office by a beaming Slughorn a little later than he had expected.

"I got a gossip that a professor in the Department of Politics is retiring tomorrow summer." Slughorn patted Tom on the shoulder meaningfully, "Personally, I suggest you go for it, after all, your resume So good, isn't it?"

"But it's very difficult to get the qualification to stay in school to teach with my qualifications." Tom tentatively said.

"Not necessarily, Tom," said Slughorn confidently. "At least I'd be more than happy to write you a letter of recommendation."

A light flashed in Tom's eyes, and he quickly covered it: "Thank you for your suggestion, professor. But... I probably need some time to think about it."

"It's your choice, of course," said Slughorn, "but don't forget to tell me when you've made up your mind."

"Sure." Tom said goodbye, "Then I'll go back and revise the outline of the thesis before sending it to your email?"

Slughorn smiled and nodded: "Then, see you when school officially starts in a few days."

"See you later, Professor."

Tom took out his mobile phone as he walked downstairs, and there were a lot of unread messages on it——

[Bella]: He hasn't finished nagging?

[Lucius]: Narcissa and I have already set off.

[Dolokhov]: The red line subway is out of service, so I guess I will be late.

[Bella]: Are you done talking?I'll be waiting for you here at the church.

[Luke Wood]: I've arrived, and none of the others have come.

[Bella]: Let me pick you up!

[Lucius]: I've been waiting for an hour and Narcissa hasn't put on her makeup yet, so don't blame me if you're late.

[Luke Wood]: The boss is out on a date, so I decided to sneak out early.

[Bella]: How long will you talk about?

Tom responded with a concise "OK" to Lucius, Rookwood, and Dolohov in a perfunctory manner, and then sent a message to Bella: "I'll be right there."

When he took a shortcut to the church, he saw a few freshmen basking in the sun scattered on the lawn, and calculated that he would graduate in a year.Tom looked up at the sun, how time flies!

"Tom!" He was spotted by the sharp-eyed Bella just after he walked around the church. She leaned half out of the car and waved at him, with a string of shining silver earrings on her ears.Tom finds out it's a new car:

"Why did you change the car again?"

Passers-by cast all kinds of eyes on this conspicuous black supercar.

"My dad gave me a birthday present." Bella chewed the gum nonchalantly, and stepped on the gas pedal hard, "What did Slughorn tell you?"

"Nothing," said Tom. "Just something about the dissertation."

Bella glanced at him and softened her voice: "Have you figured out where to go after graduation?"

"Still considering."

Bella cleverly changed the topic: "My worry-free cousin is also coming to Hogwarts this year."

"You've said it countless times."

She snorted, "My aunt told me to call him out to have a meal with Cissy after school starts."

"I thought your family had given up on this son a long time ago."

"I hope so too." Bella said with a sullen face, "but Uncle Orion thinks he can still save it one last time."

"Wouldn't it be nice to have Regulus take over? I think he's very talented."

"You think so?" Bella raised her voice ecstatically, while glancing at Tom again, "I think so too. It's a pity that Uncle Orion still thinks that this rotten piece of wood, Sirius, can be carved one last time."

Tom didn't answer the call, he took out his phone and glanced at the message: "Lucius and Narcissa are here too."

"So," Rookwood said when everyone was full and waiting for dessert, "the Black family still refuses to give up their eldest son?"

Both Bella and Narcissa remained silent, and finally Lucius answered: "It's like this at the moment."

Tom didn't bother to listen to them go on about the minutiae of the Black family: "How's your internship going, Rookwood?"

"It's okay." Luke Wood replied hastily, "It's just that the boss is a bit annoying."

"What about you? Dolokhov?" Tom asked, "Have you heard back from your offer?"

Dolokhov shrugged, looking a little downcast.

"The company where I practiced before is recruiting interns. The manager who took me called me this morning to ask if I have any recommended students." Tom said unhurriedly, "If you want, I will leave his email address Here you go, try it. Although the job you do is odd jobs, it looks good on your resume."

Dolokhov was stunned for a moment, and then showed an ecstatic expression: "Of course!" He hesitated, "Then I'm considered your recommendation?"

"I'll just go back and talk to him."

Now Dolokhov's expression was utterly blissful.

"Slughorn will open a research group next spring, and the number of places is limited. If anyone of you is interested in this project, you'd better discuss it with him in advance." Tom looked at the others, "Like Luke Wood, you can think about it."

Rookwood immediately understood what Tom meant, and he couldn't hide his smirk repeatedly.Tom looked around with satisfaction at the people sitting at the table, and took a sip from his glass.Bella looked at Narcissa on the opposite side, and finally proposed again without giving up:

"You really don't think about coming to my house—"

"Bella," Tom said as he played with the empty wine glass, easily stifling her words at the source, "I have my own ideas."
