Chapter 95: Exploring the Nine-Headed Snake Base Again
Tony Stark was hovering in the sky wearing his latest Iron Man armor, scanning every corner of the Hydra base where the Avengers disappeared. Although he had checked the base thoroughly last time, he still checked it carefully this time, hoping to find some useful clues.
“It’s a mess,” Dr. Pimm said.
Iron Man said nonchalantly, "As long as I can find the missing Avengers, I don't care about this mess."
The billionaire flew over to the quantum expert and helped put aside some heavy equipment that was blocking the way, and continued: "Not to mention that if we were to do a thorough cleanup here, some evidence and clues might be lost in the process, which would be counterproductive."
Hank agreed, then shook his head and said, "It would be better if it could at least be moved a little bit, so that it can help us check it."
Iron Man said impatiently: "Do I need to repeat it a thousand times, or is your hearing not working well?"
Hawkeye saw the two quarreling again, frowned and shouted: "Are you two annoying? We have been here for several hours and found nothing except a bunch of scrapped computers and software."
"Friday can recover and reorganize them," said the Iron Man.
Hank thought to himself, "But how do we know if it works? What the hell are they doing here?"
Hawkeye found an abandoned tablet under a pile of rubble, looked at it and said, "The screen is cracked, and now it can't be turned on."
"On Friday, access this tablet and restore all data."
"Give me a few minutes, the connected server appears to have more files than I expected."
At the same time, Hawkeye tapped on the screen a few times, and it actually lit up, although it only flickered a few times. He excitedly tapped the side of the data pad lightly, hoping that this would work, even for a short while.
Hawkeye muttered to himself, examining the tablet carefully to see if he could repair it.
On the other side, Iron Man, Hank and Spider-Man continued to inspect the base.
Hawkeye shouted excitedly: "I opened it! Although it's just a video, I got some useful information."
All three were now standing on either side of Hawkeye, their eyes filled with excitement, and all four were staring at the cracked screen.
The video shows that there used to be a strange device in the laboratory. In the center of the laboratory, there was a vortex of matter. Hydra scientists surrounding it kept throwing objects into the vortex, and then these objects disappeared in the energy generated by the machine.
Ultimately, the video ends with a Hydra soldier entering a swirling energy ball and disappearing.
The four of them stared at the video, unable to calm down for a long time.
Spider-Man muttered, "This place feels like Stargate when I watch this."
Hank turned his gaze to Iron Man and asked, "Stark, what did you come up with?"
Hawkeye simply looked up and stared at his surroundings, his eyes landing on a pile of destroyed equipment, and said, "That's a machine they built, but...my instinct tells me that this isn't the first time they've made something like this."
Hearing this, Hank Pym exclaimed: "Hydra does not develop their own technology except stealing others' achievements or integrating and piecing together from other sources. They are not creative, but just a group of shameless thieves."
"Hopefully Friday can find some other Hydra base storing this technology. This place can't be the only place they're doing this research...whatever the hell they're doing."
Meanwhile, Hawkeye approached the center of the room, where the obvious teleporter had once been, now only a pile of ruins remained, and he crouched down to examine it carefully.
Ultimately, Hawkeye knew the nearly destroyed device was beyond repair, and he could only guess what had happened.
This place looked a lot like the room he was assigned to guard the Cosmic Cube, and it was possible that Hydra was continuing their research from three years ago. It seemed like he needed to reconnect with the rest of S.H.I.E.L.D.
"I don't know if it's residue or... something else," Hank said as he walked around the destroyed machine with a scanner.
"Any other findings?" Hawkeye looked at Pym.
Hank responded, "I don't know how to describe it. It's unlike anything I've ever seen. It's not related to gamma rays, solar energy, or anything like that. It has something to do with quantum energy, but it's a tiny correlation."
"Then can you figure it out?" Iron Man asked, walking to the center of the room.
Hank said, "Maybe, but I need to bring more data back for research before I can find the secret."
Iron Man asked his AI, "Friday, how's it going over there? Has the data been restored?"
"almost."
Spider-Man suddenly shouted, "Guys, I found something."
Hank, Iron Man and Hawkeye arrived at the high school team members in an instant, and with the help of Iron Man, he moved some debris and metal aside.
There was some kind of indentation in the ground, but it was clearly not a natural one. It was a straight line leading to the rest of the destroyed mysterious device.
"Okay, stand back."
Iron Man quickly moved the rubble and debris aside until the center was cleared, revealing a door.
"Friday?"
"Wait a minute, boss."
A few seconds passed, the door opened, and the four men tensed, ready for anything that might happen.
Slowly, a circular stone structure rose from the ground, with some strange carved symbols on the sides that felt familiar.
Spider-Man stroked the symbols and said with certainty, "...Oh, yes, it's definitely Stargate."
Hawkeye asked, "So...any idea what this is, other than it being a knockoff of Stargate?"
Iron Man shook his head and said, "No clue. But at least now, we are getting closer to the truth."
Suddenly, Hank stared at the scanner and yelled, "Get out of there quickly, the unknown energy here has changed!"
However, it was too late. The circular stone structure exploded with huge energy, and Spider-Man, who was caressing the stone, was the first to be annihilated. After the energy dissipated, there was nothing left where Spider-Man was standing.
The remaining three looked at each other, and Hawkeye muttered, "Well, that's good. The newly recruited high school student team member is also missing."
Hank approached the stone, but ultimately found nothing.
Iron Man pondered for a moment and said, "Now we have found the reason. This is how they disappeared. It must be related to the unknown energy that Hank mentioned."
Hank also continued: "Yes, but it is obvious that this unknown energy is not generated at all times. We don't know what it is, how it is generated, and what its cycle is."
Iron Man looked at Hank and said, "It all depends on you, Dr. Pym!"
