Marvel crosses Star Wars, and everyone attacks the galaxy
Chapter 363: Caecilius's Bewitching
Caecilius turned around, his eyes wide with shock as he saw fire coming out of his follower's eyes and she kept screaming.
After what felt like an eternity, the girl finally stopped and then collapsed to the ground, dead, her eyes replaced by the molten surface.
Ghost Rider slowly turned his hellish red eyes in Caecilius' direction, and suddenly, he was grabbed by two Rak'ghosts that appeared out of nowhere.
"They're still here?!" Celeste yelled, now very annoyed, leaving the male Zealot she was fighting and running to help Ghost Rider as more Rak'k Ghosts came through the windows and doors of the Temple.
Seeing Kaecilius distractedly looking at his recently deceased follower, Doctor Strange twisted his arm and whipped the traitor into a nearby wall. On this final attack, Doctor Strange forgoes the use of a spell, which sends his opponent flying through the air and crashing into some furniture.
After he falls, Doctor Strange proceeds to take Celeste to the "Armory" so they can figure out their next move.
Just then he felt a strange tug coming from the red coat he was now wearing and he immediately put Celeste down.
Strange wasn't sure why his newly acquired cape was pulling him towards the skull contraption on the wall.
Doctor Strange grabs the object off the wall and throws it directly at the unsuspecting Kaecilius.
In an instant, the skeletal structure pressed tightly against Caecilius's body, forcing him into a clearly uncomfortable position.
He was on his knees, his back and neck bent forward, his arms stretched out behind him.
Doctor Strange let out a long breath and knelt slightly on the ground, breathing heavily.
Then the former surgeon heard some muttered chanting emanating from the bound Caecilius, and, more or less curious about it, he heard the mysterious traitor continue.
"Oh, stop it," said Doctor Strange, rolling his eyes at the lunatics' crazy self-sacrifice.
"You can't stop this, Herr Doctor," Caecilius said in his calmest tone.
"I don't even know what 'all this' is," Doctor Strange retorted, clearly tired of everything he'd been through in less than a few hours.
"The End... and the Beginning. The Many become the Few, and the Few become the One. Dormammu's followers recite.
Doctor Strange had a headache and he was going through weird crap today.
"If you're not going to start talking sense," Doctor Strange said, holding up an object, "if you keep talking nonsense, then I'm going to stuff your mouth with this thing.
"Tell me, Mr. Doctor—"
"My name is Strange. Doctor Stephen Strange. The former surgeon corrected with a deadpan expression: "Do you understand?
Caecilius looked at the man. Are you a doctor?
"Ah."
"A scientist."
"Doctor," Doctor Strange clarified.
"You understand the laws of nature." Caecilius quickly went on to give some examples. "Everything ages. Everything dies. Eventually, our sun burns out. Our universe cools and dies. But the Dark Dimension... it's a place beyond time.
"...That's it?" Stephen shouted. "I'm putting this thing back."
"This world doesn't have to be destroyed, Doctor Strange." The traitor said, before Doctor Strange put things back in place. "This world can take its rightful place with many others, as part of the universe. We can all live forever.
Just then, a familiar voice spoke.
“Nothing lasts forever.”
Doctor Strange looked back and saw Celeste walking up the steps.
"Reyes?"
“He’s dealing with the Rak’k outside,” Celeste said. “Another one of his followers was thrown through one of the windows.
Doctor Strange nodded at her, and the two now looked over the imprisoned Kaecilius.
"You're a fool if you think you'll live forever," Celeste said quickly. "Immortality is rarely a blessing, and in fact, most people who achieve it find it to be a curse."
"Do you... do you know those immortals? The former master of the mystic arts asked in awe.
Jedi Shadow Celeste nodded slowly. "I know of two, one is a twisted and vile ritual, the other... This allows you to transcend while keeping your consciousness in the mortal world. But that's only for those who are truly enlightened. A Jedi who is so one with the Force that the Force becomes one with them."
"This is Dormammu's promise, Jedi Knight." Kaecilius almost whispered.
"Really?" Doctor Strange said, clearly not believing what he was hearing. "What do you get from this new age dimensional utopia?"
“Same as you. Same as everyone else. Life. Immortality. Caecilius quickly explained his thoughts. “People think in terms of good and evil, when in fact time is the real enemy of all of us. Time kills everything.
“It’s not cruel. People just misunderstand the concept. Time is a gift.’ Celeste said. The thought briefly flooded her mind before she was lowered into and emerged from the cryo-sarcophagus. ‘People don’t really realise it, but the time we have has to be preserved. It gives life meaning. The sad thing is, they don’t take it for granted and they squander it.
"Where are the people you killed?" asked the former surgeon.
"It was an inevitable, transient, tiny speck in an indifferent universe.
Celeste ignited her lightsaber and raised it to the man's neck.
“How dare you,” she hissed, glaring at the man angrily. “Who do you think you are to decide something like this? You took away innocent lives, and they didn’t have the chance to live their lives the way they saw fit.”
"Are you really going to get mad at a few poor souls—"
The man barely showed any fear as he felt the lightsaber now hovering over his cheek, gently burning his skin.
"Say it again." Celeste said, barely controlling her anger.
Before she could say or do anything more, she felt a hand on her wrist.
Celeste turned around and saw Doctor Strange shaking his head.
She exhaled and took a step back.
Caecilius saw an opportunity to pick up where he left off. "This world is not as it should be. Man longs for eternity... for a world beyond time, for time is what enslaves us. Time is an insult. Death is an insult.
“It’s only because we’re afraid of it, because we try to see more from life. Many try to escape it, but we can’t escape it in the end. Celeste added with a glare.
"Doctor... Celeste... We do not seek to rule this world. We seek to save it, to give it to Dormammu, who is the intention of all evolution, the reason for all existence.
"A misguided man," said Celeste scornfully.
"The Sorcerer Supreme defends existence," Doctor Strange said behind her.
"What brought both of you to Kamar-Taj?" Caecilius spoke to the two in front of him. "Enlightenment? Power? Or to be healed like the others?" He chuckled to himself. "Kama-Taj is a place where broken things are collected. We all came with the promise of being healed, and instead, the Ancient One lied to us and never solved our problems." He spat. "She kept the true magic for herself. Have you ever wondered how she's survived so long?"
"...I saw the ritual in the Book of Cagliostro. Doctor Strange said, looking away slightly.
"So you see," Kaecilius began, and Celeste glanced curiously at what was left unsaid. "The ritual gave me the power to overthrow the Ancient One and destroy the Sanctuary. To allow the Dark Dimension to enter. For what the Ancient One selfishly withheld, Dormammu gave freely - immortality.
"You're a deluded fool." Celeste spat. "All you did was release evil Sith Lords and murder people. How dare you say you're a bringer of peace.
Oddly enough. "'Dark Dimension' doesn't sound like a pleasant place.
“Who says dark and light are evil and good respectively? They are labeled as such because one is easily feared and the other quickly embraced. In reality, there are all shades of grey.
"I'd rather not discuss philosophy with the likes of you," Doctor Strange interjected, but Caecilius pressed on.
“He’s not the destroyer of worlds. He’s their savior.
"No. I mean, come on. Look at your face. Dormammu turned you into a murderer. How good can his kingdom really be?" Then Doctor Strange smiled at his captive. "Do you think this is funny?"
"No, not that. Interestingly, neither of you have a ring hanging?
Celeste patted her dress and said, "Oh, come on. I just got one back."
Doctor Strange instead heard a noise coming from the bottom of the stairs behind him and turned around just in time.
"Stephen!" Celeste yelled.
She faced the male fanatic who ran up the stairs towards them and she clenched her fist in response.
The man grabbed him and he was thrown into the air and then to the ground, where he lay motionless.
The only evidence that the fanatic was still alive was a slight fogging of the floor where his mouth lay.
Doctor Strange nearly falls down the stairs, but Celeste catches him.
The man gasped, clutching his bleeding chest, and stumbled and fell, even with Morn holding onto his arm.
"Come on, don't give up." She was under a lot of pressure.
Doctor Strange let out a choked breath and lazily reached for “Let go… and take the hanging ring.
"I can not."
"Go!"
Using the Force, Celeste retrieved the dangling ring from the unconscious zealot upstairs and allowed it to rush toward her. Grasping it, she reluctantly handed it to the bleeding man she was carrying on her back.
Doctor Strange shakily opens a portal, revealing a supply room on the other side.
With no other choice, Celeste is forced to drag Doctor Strange through it as it slowly closes behind them.
"Where are we?" she asked, confused. "This is—"
"Metro General Hospital." Doctor Strange answered. "Through here. We need to find Dr. Kristen Palmer.
Stepping out of the supply room, Celeste saw some commotion going on inside the medical facility. Doctors were running around in the aftermath of the recent attack.
The Jedi Shadow was about to approach one of them, then someone did it.
“Hello, can I help you—Oh, God, Stephen?
Celeste looked at the woman and the man she was carrying.
"Hello, Christine," Doctor Strange gasped.
The identified woman stammered and spat, trying to make sense of what she was looking at.
"Stephen, what happened? Where have you been? Where on earth did you come from—"
"Hello." Celeste interrupted sharply, causing Christine to look at her with wide eyes. "He's badly injured. Almost stabbed through the chest. We could really use your help right now, since he's clearly here to get you."
Christine could only stare in amazement until she nodded and took the two to the emergency room.
