Marvel crosses Star Wars, and everyone attacks the galaxy
Chapter 300 Pre-War Meeting 1
In the hangar bay of the Resolute, Scott was with Hope and Rhodes, the three were studying several Republic starfighters, with several clone pilots observing them.
"So what the hell are you doing?" asked the clone pilot named Broadside. He, Rogue, and the rest of Blue Squadron had been watching Hope, Scott, and Rhodes install these strange panels into several of their ships and hook them up to the controls.
“This is something my dad and I worked on back on Earth,” Hope said, holding up a welding tool for Scott to take. “We developed it a while ago, and I think a few people have seen this.”
With their work complete, the three Avengers stepped back and stood with the clone pilot.
Hope held up a small remote and pressed the center button on the left side.
In an instant, all the ships they had been studying shrunk to trinket-sized starfighters.
"Wow!" was the almost collective reaction of the clones.
Of course, some people have seen the powers of the Avengers, but this is new to them. Some say that the two superheroes can not only change their own size, but also other objects.
A second later, the shrunken starfighter returned to normal size.
"Okay, that'll do," Scott muttered, walking over to the nearest starfighter and quickly jumping in.
After a while, the fighter lifted off and hovered in the air, and many people in the hangar stopped what they were doing to look at the floating ship. After a few seconds, the starfighter shrank again, and some people noticed a small flare from the thrusters at the center point where the ship had shrunk to.
"Woo, it works!" Scott's voice came through the Avengers' communications.
War Machine smiled approvingly, and Hope smiled.
"Great." Hope said. "Well, Scott, come back."
Scott's fighter grew back to normal size and landed gently on the ground, and an excited Ant-Man jumped out.
“It worked,” Scott declared, pumping his fist. “They’re all ready for Jabiim.”
The clone pilot stared at the Avengers curiously.
"Jabim?" another clone pilot technician muttered loudly in confusion. "Are you going to use this against Jabiim?"
War Machine shook his head. "Not us. All of you."
This surprised the assembled clone pilots.
"We?" a pilot named Captain asked in surprise. "Why us?"
“Well, besides the fact that we worked with you guys at some point in time, Ahsoka and Anakin were the ones who singled you out,” Rhodes said. “Blue Squadron and Rogue Squadron were the two starfighter squadrons we’ve fought alongside the most in the air. So when we were on Jabium, we trusted these purpose-built fighters of yours.”
It was hard to deny the growing anticipation, excitement, and a little bit of nervousness that built up in the clones as they heard this.
"We?" Broadside said, slightly surprised. "Are you sure, Colonel?"
"It shouldn't be too bad," Scott said. "We're going to give you a crash course in how this stuff works. For the most part, it's pretty straightforward. Thank goodness you're not the ones affected by the Pym particles, it's the ship."
“We just need all of you to at least adjust a little to the change in perspective,” Hope began. “It’s important to keep your head clear and focused, because zooming out can be a little disorienting at first.”
"We will need every advantage we can get," War Machine said, his tone becoming more severe. "Ultron will try to defeat us in both force and brains. To you, he is just another oversized robot. To us, he is a being that has nearly succeeded in causing the extinction of our planet. Do not underestimate him."
The last two comments about extinction were enough to dampen some of the excitement that the clones had built up about the prospect of these ships. As many saw it, the Avengers were taking things very seriously this time around, far more so than almost all the others.
Seeing beings with skills, abilities, and technology that rivaled and in some cases surpassed those of the Jedi Knights be so determined and worried at the same time is a rare sight for those who knew the Avengers well enough.
As well as disturbing.
"Okay." War Machine said. "Who's going first? Three volunteers.
While this group of Avengers was dealing with this, the rest of the group was gathered in the war room.
There were three Jedi Knights and three clone officers present, with others arriving via holographic transmission, and they almost surrounded the control room of the bridge.
The Jedi task force was Anakin, Obi-Wan, Aayla, Emma-Gon Dante, Plo Koon, and Luminara. Their clone officers, Rex, Cody, Bly, Kili, Worf, and Gree, stood beside their general.
The Earthlings present included Captain America, Black Widow, Falcon, Quicksilver, Daredevil, and the newest member of the Avengers, Black Panther.
"I didn't realize I would encounter something like this so suddenly. Wakanda Prince T'Challa muttered as he stood with the Avengers in front of the Jedi Knights and clones.
Next to him was one of the few people he knew - Matt Murdock.
The blind lawyer from Hell's Kitchen hummed to himself.
“When we all show up here, we all feel the same way,” Matt responded.
T'Challa simply nodded, gazing back at the collection of Jedi and clones.
As he was brought aboard, some Republic troops and even some Avengers were surprised that the Prince insisted on coming with them.
They would have thought that after being alone in the galaxy for so long, he would rather stay and recuperate on Coruscant.
Instead, they found the royal family who was very eager to participate in the Avengers and said that for the time being, it would be wiser to stick with them than to stay. Judging from his attitude, he very much wanted to be involved, and the Avengers just accepted him now because he knew that a person of his character could not avoid such a thing so casually.
Now, he was just with them, observing the meeting.
A moment later, Mace Windu and Master Yoda joined the holographic transmission and appeared on the holo-table.
"Then everyone is here," Obi-Wan announced, taking a moment to look around at the assembled group.
"Then let's get started," said the tiny projection of Yoda.
A large group of people nodded, and a new projection appeared in front of them, the planet they were currently heading to.
"This is Jabium." Plo Koon began. "An Outer Rim world that has existed with the Republic for centuries. Lately, it has been a focal point between the Republic and the Separatists, a dispute that has escalated due to a civil war that has broken out between the planet's native inhabitants, those who are loyal to us and those who support the Separatists.
"What is the significance of this planet?" Black Widow wondered aloud. "I know this is a bit rude, but you said it was an Outer Rim world. Wouldn't it be difficult to control it, considering how far away it is from Coruscant or even Kamino itself?"
"It is still part of the Republic, and we will not abandon it and allow our enemies to occupy it. Obi-Wan said, shaking his head. "This is a planet that is as important to us as it is to the Separatists.
"It's obviously Ultron now," Ayla said.
“He targeted this planet for a reason. There’s something he wants there. Steve said loudly, stepping forward.
"What?" Bly asked loudly. Some of the Jedi and clones knew a little about Jabium, but they did not fully understand the importance of this Outer Rim world.
"Before the war began, natural ores of the metal were discovered, and after the war broke out, the Republic realized it could be used in our fight against the Separatists. Mace Windu revealed, with several Avengers openly frowning on this.
"So this planet only became important to you once you discovered it had value?" Quicksilver said, glaring at the Jedi Council Master.
Mace Windu stared back at Quicksilver with determination.
"That was not our intention. Windu shot back calmly.
"Really?" Quicksilver said, his voice rather sarcastic, surprising many present. "How convenient. I bet you didn't even care about this planet until you found out they had the ore.
The Jedi and the clones were frightened by this sudden tone from the usually cocky and laid back Avengers.
"This is a war, Mr. Maximov," Windu said calmly. "Bad things happen every day."
Quicksilver found himself almost roaring, until he felt Cap's strong hand on his shoulder. He looked back at Cap, and saw the leader of the Avengers shaking his head, telling him to back off. Now was not the time for this.
Quicksilver took a step back, but his obviously angry expression remained.
