HP Shavings Wizard

Chapter 37 Tradition

Although I know that my father can be a little childish sometimes, but...

Alison subconsciously looked at Grindelwald somewhat helplessly.

The old father was applauding his old lover's childish declaration of war, and when he noticed his daughter's gaze, his expression also carried some of the arrogance and frivolity of his youth.

"Little Ellie, you seem surprised..."

"Don't let Albus's appearance fool you - he may look like a kindly headmaster now, but he was a very creative troublemaker when he was young."

Grindelwald glanced at Dumbledore, a hint of nostalgia and amusement in his eyes.

"We have planned a lot of...interesting things together."

"I think I have a pretty good memory, and I go back to it often, but there's nothing like a Pensieve. I'm sure you, with that convenience, will know the details I've forgotten better than I do... Hmm? Old friend?"

Dumbledore lowered his head at the right time and started to eat the ice cream seriously, scooping the "jumping cherry" into his mouth in one bite, cunningly avoiding the hot, loving, strange yet familiar eyes around him.

It would be a shame if your favorite ice cream melted, right?

Grindelwald chuckled and seemed to be in a good mood.

Bathilda shook her head and secretly looked at the two young men who were over a hundred years old and the atmosphere was still subtle.

Alison also held up her face to look at the old lovers.

Dumbledore noticed their gazes and coughed lightly, trying to change the subject.

"Okay, I think this has gotten off topic...Alison, is there any particular magic you'd like to learn?"

Grindelwald watched this scene with great interest, a faint smile on his lips, and deliberately teased.

"Don't be so quick to change the subject, Albus. I'm sure Alison would be very interested in our past."

Alison leaned against Bathilda obediently, blinked her eyes, and teased her father: "I am now somewhat interested in the magic of love. Can you show it to me?"

Bathilda interrupted Alison with a loud cough.

Dumbledore was a little embarrassed, but he quickly regained his composure.

"Alison, love is indeed a powerful magic, but it cannot be demonstrated easily."

Grindelwald raised an eyebrow and smiled playfully: "Oh? I think this is very interesting."

Dumbledore glared seriously at his old friend who was still frivolous and unrestrained, then turned to Alison and completed the second half of the sentence.

“It exists in the details of life and requires you to take the time to understand and appreciate it.”

Bathilda patted Alison's shoulder gently. She couldn't stand the two mean-spirited Grindelwalds bullying Albus, so she kindly helped to change the subject: "Little Ellie, is there anything you want to know about your future school life?"

Alison, who felt that she was on the verge of victory, was dissatisfied with the adults changing the subject. She snorted childishly and spoke harshly.

"There's nothing to talk about! We're not allowed to go to the restricted area. We should be thankful that there aren't a bunch of crying kids living away from home."

No matter how magical the magic school is, it can't hide the nervousness of the eleven-year-old animals, most of whom are away from home for the first time. Moreover, they only have holidays until Christmas, and Alison doesn't think the class reunion is as beautiful as in novels, movies and games.

Bathilda coughed awkwardly. She tried to ignore Alison's petulant dissatisfaction. "How about we talk about colleges - which one do you want to go to?"

"Gryffindor? Slytherin? Ravenclaw? Or Hufflepuff?"

Alison blinked and asked politely about the sorting method.

It is a tradition in the British wizarding world not to tell children how to be sorted, because the adults always enjoy teasing the children.

Of course, Alison, who had the script in hand, mainly wanted to see how they were going to fool her.

"How are the houses divided? They can't let people choose for themselves, right?"

The adults instantly put aside their previous emotions and exchanged quick glances with each other.

Apparently even Grindelwald of Durmstrang was aware of this Hogwarts tradition, perhaps because the lovers had practiced Legilimency on each other when they were young?

Dumbledore smiled mysteriously and said, "The sorting method is one of the ancient traditions of Hogwarts. It is a magical process that every new student must go through..."

Grindelwald interrupted: "It's a surprise that the new students won't know about in advance..."

Bathilda also pretended to be relaxed and comforted the little wizard, increasing his nervousness: "Don't worry, dear, there's nothing to be afraid of."

Several adults sang in unison. Dumbledore paused, a sly look flashing in his eyes. "But if you really want to know, maybe we can give you a small hint?"

Alison ate her ice cream and spoke vaguely, pretending to be ignorant and uneasy, like an innocent lamb: "I heard that we will fight with magical creatures like trolls, which will test our magical abilities?"

Dumbledore tried hard to hold back his laughter and pretended to be serious, but the adult's evil intentions were completely aroused by her.

"That's just one of the possibilities. We change it every year." He could hardly hide the smile in the corners of his eyes. His shoulders trembled slightly. He pretended to be mysterious and intimidated the little wizard. "It could also be riding a flying broom through the Forbidden Forest, or swimming in the Black Lake with a giant squid..."

Grindelwald nodded in agreement. "I also heard from Albus that their class went to the Forbidden Forest to duel with werewolves."

Bathilda lowered her head and ate the melted ice cream carefully, afraid that she would laugh out loud accidentally.

Dumbledore winked playfully and continued, "But either way, I'm sure the students will be able to pass it smoothly."

"Alison, which one do you prefer? Maybe we can make an accommodation."

…She would choose to cast a dozen Killing Curses on those magical creatures.

The young wizard had a terrifying thought in his mind that could scare others to scream, but his young face was full of obedience. He asked seriously, and it was unclear who was teasing whom: "It sounds like the troll is easier?"

Seeing that the child was really thinking seriously, Bathilda couldn't help laughing and quickly covered her mouth to try to hide her gaffe.

Grindelwald and Dumbledore couldn't help laughing, and all three of them tried to remain serious, but obviously failed.

Alison, who was cooperating with the parents in the performance, could not ignore it: Stare...

Dumbledore cleared his throat and regained control of the situation: "Ahem, we are indeed joking. You will know how to be sorted when the time comes."

Bathilda felt a little embarrassed when the little wizard gave her an accusing look. "So, where would you rather go?"
