Li Xueyue placed the diary on a table and asked the servant to bring a tray of afternoon tea, tea and wet towels. When they were brought to her, she cleaned her hands and wiped the dust off the book.

She flipped through the pages. They were all filled to the brim, either half a page or a full page. The entries were neatly written, describing someone's day. She wasn't interested in any of them until she came to a page with only one sentence.

It read: "I sneaked out for the first time tonight."

Li Xueyue nodded in agreement. "It must be interesting," she said, turning to the next page and frowning at the next entry.

"Everyone would be furious if they knew, but I don't care anymore!" I hate being locked in this room, it feels like a prison cell. Honestly, what is my crime? Being born? I never get to go out, and if I have to take one more stupid walk in the garden I'm going to cut off all the flowers!"

Li Xueyue's eyes widened at the sheer frustration on this page. Whose diary is this? Whoever the author is, the entries do not specify anyone's name or title. A servant couldn't be so bold to cut flowers, could he? Locked in a room? Who could this be?

Suddenly, a thought flashed through her mind. This was what she had said when she first met the Duke and Duchess. About...the daughter?

"That's right!" Li Xueyue exhaled. "They have a daughter." How could she have forgotten this important detail? Her heartbeat quickened as she realized that the wing she might have strayed into might be... where their daughter once lived. In other words, the book belonged to that daughter. But what was her name?

Li Xueyue bit her lower lip. She wanted to ask, but she didn't want to pry. These things were not hers to ask. And if she asked them, they would know that she had entered the restricted area of the manor.

"I should have stayed in my room." Li Xueyue sighed and covered her face for her stupid mistake. Nevertheless, she continued to read, and her eyes became bigger and bigger with each page.

"I snuck out again tonight. I know I shouldn't, not when the city is filled with people who might recognize how much I look like my father. But I couldn't stand that stupid room. Who do they think they are? Locking up their daughter like a prisoner! What's the point of being born so rich if I can't show it off?

She turned the page and saw that it was a report for the next day.

"Oh my god, I should have stayed home last night. I'm sorry I didn't write down what happened, diary. You must have been worried that I hadn't updated you. I...I met a guy. He was handsome! Like, really really handsome! I don't think I've ever seen anyone like him before. He said his name was--'

Li Xueyue frowned when she saw the name was crossed out. It seemed that it was written down, but then it was crossed out diligently, and even the words could not be seen clearly.

"He has the most amazing voice! I thought I wouldn't meet him, but I did. I stopped a kid from pickpocketing him, but I think he knew what the kid was doing. He told me people generally find him scary, and I can see why. He has a sword hanging from his hip, and he has huge hands that look like they could kill someone."

Li Xueyue tilted her head, thinking the description sounded familiar. She turned to the next page and realized they had skipped a few days.

"I don't understand why Dad won't let me out! Everyone here in Herson is so nice! I ran into that guy again. He told me his family doesn't live near the city, but he works as a guard here and is, and I quote, "a real pain in the ass." He's not usually a talkative person, so I shrugged off his harsh words. What if he's offended the people he's guarding? Could it be-"

A rough knock on the door interrupted her reading. She looked up and asked, "What's the matter?"

The guard said, "Miss, we have a guest——"

A maid gasped, "Sir, you can't trespass without permission--!"

The door suddenly opened and a man immediately walked into her room like he owned the place. His leisurely pace annoyed her, but then she was confused by the anxiety in his eyes. When he finally saw that she was safe and sound sitting in a chair reading a book and eating a snack, he relaxed a little.

"Yu Zhen, what are you doing here?" Li Xueyue immediately stood up, closed the book and hid it behind her.

"I heard you were bedridden." Yu Zhen had a blank expression on his face as he handed a packet of medicine to a servant beside him. It seemed that there was no need to buy half of the herbal medicine store...

“Who told you?” Li Xueyue asked. She was confused by the package but didn’t ask any questions.

"Miss, should we escort him out of the room for trespassing?" a guard asked, looking at the foreigner hesitantly. From the different style of clothes he was wearing, it could be seen that he was obviously not from here.

They were worried about their daughter's safety and were unsure of his identity. Many soldiers felt they had seen him somewhere... especially in the newspapers, which described a ruthless commander who hacked to death all the soldiers he came into contact with on the battlefield.

Li Xueyue was just about to send Yu Zhen out of the house happily, but she suddenly spoke.

"I wish you hadn't kicked me out, Sunshine. I generously used my presence to ease your aching boredom. You should have kept me here."

Li Xueyue looked around the room. She looked back over her shoulder and behind her.

"what are you doing?"

"Oh wait, did you talk to me before?" She pretended to be confused.

Yu Zhen's lips were pressed into a thin line. "Hahaha. That's so funny. I almost cried." He replied in the flattest, monotonous voice.

“I swear, one day you’ll be grateful for my presence,” Yu Zhen said, tapping her forehead gently and she stuck out her tongue at him.

"I can swear to you that this will never happen."

"Never?" Yu Zhen raised his eyebrows.

"Once." Li Xueyue nodded.

"Let's see." Yu Zhen said with a smile, his back to her, almost as if he was leaving. "What a pity, I wanted to tell you something I overheard in the palace."

Li Xueyue raised her chin, "Okay?"

"And it's about you."

Now, she was curious. "Then tell me."

Yu Zhen put his finger on his chin thoughtfully. "Well, I don't think so."

Li Xueyue pursed her thin lips into a line.

The corners of his lips curled up in a smug smile. He knew he had seduced her. She had always been a curious woman, and he could see that quality in her. She wanted to know more, but was too stubborn to ask.

In that case, he decided to tease her a little more. "Well, I have to go back now." He turned his back to her and began to approach her door at a snail's pace.

“Keep up the good work.” Li Xueyue pushed him out with her hand and did not stop to welcome him back.

Yu Zhen's humorous smile faded slightly, and he said, "I really have to leave."

"Ok."

“Like, really left.”

"Ah."

"Look, I already have one foot out the door."

“Great.”

Yu Zhen glared at her. "First you don't know how to dress for a man, and now you don't know how to entertain guests."

"First you pulled me into your room, and now you're breaking into my room."

He chuckled, and the sound tickled her heart and warmed her stomach.

Li Xueyue wished she wouldn't react to him like this. She noticed that his eyes crinkled when he smiled and that he had only one dimple. The observation irritated her. It meant that she had been examining him for too long. He had held her attention for too long.

"Are you sure you don't want to know?"

"Are you going to tell me?"

"As long as you welcome me back."

"Then I guess not." Li Xueyue shrugged.

"Okay then, I'm leaving." Yu Zhen waved his hand.

"Okay," she deadpanned.

“Great,” he replied.

"brilliant."

“Excellent.”

"Uh, who are you? Five?" She raised her hands, unable to believe he could be so childish.

"Actually..." He trailed off as he walked back to her room without being greeted by her. He closed the door behind him, blocking any wandering eyes.

She strode towards her, waiting for him to continue, but to her surprise he pulled at her cheek, stretching it.

"I'm five and a half, which means I'm older than your childish antics."

"I'm not naive."

"And I'm not handsome," he scoffed, pulling her cheek again. He thought it was as soft as rice cake and cute.

“I’m glad we’re on the same page.”

He frowned and tugged on her cheeks as a way of punishing her. She wrinkled her nose in response and stood on her tiptoes to grab his face. His eyes widened at her unexpected action and he took a step back, causing her to lean forward until she was almost hitting his chest.

She thought they would back off from her weight, but he remained grounded. Strong and determined as always, he supported her perfectly. His hands grasped her elbows, steadying her.

Her eyes widened as she realized how close he was to her. His scent, his warmth, his heartbeat, overwhelmed her senses. He was even more handsome up close. He looked down at her with a sly smile on his face and a sly glint in his eyes. She was dumbfounded when he became even more charming with just such a simple move.

She swallowed, her eyes running over his flawless features. Smooth honey-colored skin, a scar above his eyebrow, a slightly curved nose, perfectly plump lips, features you would never think blended together, but they blended together in the most attractive way.

She felt her heart pounding against her chest. Briefly, he released one elbow and gently stroked her cheek with his fingers; her eyes fluttered closed as she leaned into his gentle touch.

For a second, he thought he saw adoration in her eyes, but she quickly closed them before he could confirm anything. With her vigilance and her trust in him, he knew he didn't need any further confirmation.
