"Okay, young lady, you're here." Emperor Fadong raised his head from his propped-up arms. He was discussing something with the queen, and before the eunuch announced, Li Xueyue walked into the palace.

She curtseyed to him and was pardoned.

"What's wrong with you? It seems that you are not in the Chrysanthemum Garden. Which room did you go to?" He teased with a sly smile on his face, which made King Li Chenyang a little annoyed. However, Lord Li Taojun pretended that he had never seen Li Xueyue - even though he almost destroyed her peaceful life half a week ago.

Li Xueyue pretended to laugh. "Your Majesty, you must be joking."

“I just got lost along the way,” she explained with a smile.

"Is it really now?"

"Yes." Li Xueyue nodded.

Technically, she hadn't lied. She had gotten lost twice, but that was only half the story. She had a hunch that the Emperor and the Empress had colluded to mislead her. But how could she defeat this scheming Emperor? He was a man she wouldn't even dream of hurting.

Speaking of hurt, her thoughts returned to Bai Tian Ai. Her eyes widened briefly as she looked around for a familiar face - the Viscount. Was he here? Since he visited the capital so often, it was a possibility. When she saw that he was not around, she ignored her urge to breathe a sigh of relief. She didn't need him to ruin her plans.

"Hmm..." Emperor Fadong snorted. "Well, I think..." His voice trailed off as Commander Yu Zhen walked in, raising his palm to stop the eunuch who was about to announce his arrival.

The next second, Commander Wen Jinkai also swaggered in, and the two stood side by side, with great momentum. Although their footsteps were silent, the heavy breath was enough to let Li Xueyue know that they were behind her.

"Okay, okay..." Fadongdi's eyes jumped from the girl to the two of them. \"What do we have here?\"

"It's an interesting moment with all three of you here," Wen Jinkai said with his head tilted as he cast a stern look at the smiling Yu Zhen. The two men's personalities were as opposite as day and night.

"However, this is a good opportunity to tell you about my plan." Emperor Fadong put his hands together and glanced briefly at King Li Chenyang.

The "urgent news" they had to deal with before turned out not to be that urgent. It was just a document that the Duke accidentally discovered after forcing the Emperor to search.

"Wen Jinkai, you must know about the replacement this time." Emperor Fadong said, pointing at the young ladies who had not yet been pardoned and entered the palace, and had not been assigned suitable husbands.

"Aren't they lovely?" He nodded to one that stood out. She was beautiful, as a princess should be. She had almost no flaws on her face, and her manners were modest.

"Yu Zhen, I believe you know her."

Commander Yu Zhen’s lips formed a thin line. Of course he knew who that woman was. He was the one who had to send her here, and she cried all the way until she found out that she might be able to marry better in Wuyi than in Hanjian.

The princesses' fate was to be pampered and married off for political gain. This was the price they had to pay for growing up in luxury.

"The fifth princess, Xia Zhixu, is the daughter of Emperor Jian of Han and his wife."

Wen Jinkai pursed his lips. What does this boring introduction have to do with him? He just followed Yu Zhen here, but he didn't know why.

"Jin Kai, you should smile." Fa Dongdi laughed heartily, and his voice bounced back from the wall.

"She will be your first wife."

If Wen Jinkai was excited or disgusted by the news, he didn’t show it. Like an iceberg, he controlled his expression. His eyes rested on Li Xueyue and found that she didn’t seem to be disturbed by the news. Did she already know about it? He was going to walk out of the palace with his new wife?

"What do you think?" Emperor Fadong grinned, "If you marry her, you will become the crown prince."

“What’s the point of such a meaningless title?” Wen Jinkai frowned slightly, not realizing that he had just insulted Xueyue. What is the purpose of the princess? In the end, it’s all human. Some are just luckier than others.

"She's beautiful, gentle, and kind. What more could you want?"

"I want her to be Xueyue." Of course, Wen Jinkai himself would never admit this fact. His brows knitted together, staring at her intently, waiting for her reaction. Say something. Do something.

He has expressed his interest in her. Will she do the same? Is she brave enough to publicly declare her attraction to him? Or is her talk of romance just for show?

"It's my own decision who to marry, and I don't need outside forces to interfere," Wen Jinkai said expressionlessly. "Even if she is the most beautiful woman in the world, I don't care."

"It's always good to have a loved one at home, don't you think? It's too lonely to be alone." Fa Dongdi touched his chin meaningfully.

He said: "The war will end soon due to successful negotiations. You will no longer need to be on the battlefield. You will have more free time."

Wen Jinkai raised his eyebrows. "I can use my free time to train more soldiers."

"You are young and healthy, why waste your youth?"

"It's my duty to look after this country." Wen Jinkai's face was expressionless, his eyes drifting towards Li Xueyue. He was waiting for her to speak. Waiting for her to protest. At least wait for her to move her body. But she did nothing. She just stood there, turning a deaf ear to everything.

Didn't she care about him? He gritted his teeth at the thought. Why was she waiting so impatiently for his answer? He didn't realize that he wasn't the only one staring at her. Everyone was looking at her, waiting for her to speak.

"Well, I can't refute it." Emperor Fadong sighed.

"You haven't played with a woman in a long time. How long? Four years? Since--" He paused and glanced at King Li Chenyang.

Queen Huiyun tried not to frown at the near miss. He didn't know. There was no way he could know the truth. This was something she swore to take to her grave.
