"I'm going to kill you." After Xueyue was taken off the carriage, Li Wenmin roared and drew his sword. "What on earth did you do to my sister?!" He rushed towards Wen Jinkai, who immediately knocked the sword out of his hand.

"Do you realize what you've done?" Li Wenmin seethed, grabbing the motionless commander by the collar and pulling him close. "You've tarnished her reputation. Being alone with a man for three hours without a maid. Do you understand the damage this could do to her future? The whispers have already begun, you bastard."

"I used to respect you as a man and a commander, but look at the mess you've made," he hissed, gesturing toward the golden staircase. "You better fucking explain yourself to the Emperor."

Li Xueyue looked at the serious expressions of Mr. and Mrs. Li, feeling somewhat puzzled. Duchess Li Qixing was distraught and her eyes were wet. She was about to cry, but the Duke was powerless.

Seeing the unsuspecting Xueyue, unaware that her future was ruined, King Li Chenyang felt pain. It wasn’t that she missed the sword competition. It was what the commander had done to her. He had destined her for the worst fate.

"Oh, dear." Duchess Li Qixing's voice was hoarse. She reached out and grabbed Xueyue, hugging her tightly.

"I'm sorry..." Her tone was filled with regret. "I should have done something. I should have stopped the commander instead of letting him get close to you."

Duchess Li Qixing came back to her senses and examined Xueyue's face, but a pitiful sob came out of her throat. She hugged Xueyue again. "I never thought that this would happen. I shouldn't have suggested this game to you. We should stay at home. You are much safer at home than anywhere else."

Li Chenyang pondered silently, even though he wanted to kill the commander on the spot. He hated this man the most because he ruined Xueyue's life. This was not the first time that Wen Jinkai had ruined the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Li.

"I'll be fine, everything will be fine." Duchess Li Qixing tried to stay calm. She was about to collapse, and her voice was as fragile as a trembling leaf.

“Baby, you scared her.” King Lu Chenyang put his hand on his wife and comforted her. He had hoped that this would calm her down, but it didn’t. She hugged Xueyue tighter.

"I don't care what they think, I want to take her home." Duchess Li Qixing said, with a determined light burning in her eyes. She planned to take Xueyue to a safe house so that the clutches of the royal family could never touch her.

"Don't be unreasonable." King Li Chenyang frowned. "We can't."

"I don't care," Duchess Li Qixing argued. "I won't lose her because of--"

"Li Xueyue?" the eunuch asked angrily.

Duchess Li Qixing's wet eyes gradually dried up. She forced herself to stay calm, even though she had lost her mind. Her thoughts kept circling the day Li Minghua was killed in the fire. The day they declared her missing. The ashes of that day rose into the sky and disappeared without a trace. It was presumed that her body had been burned.

She had already lost her daughter once. She would not allow herself to lose another.

Li Chenyang's calm expression became even calmer. Seeing the densely packed imperial guards surrounding the Li family, he did not panic. They were fully armed and ready to capture Xueyue.

A eunuch in forest green robes stepped forward, holding a heavy scroll in his hands, and bowed respectfully to the esteemed couple.

"Dear Prime Minister, hello to the elegant Duchess Li Qixing."

He turned to the twins and bowed, "And Minister Li Chenyang and General Li Wenmin."

When he saw the commander, his eyes widened. The merciless glare that pierced his skull nearly brought him to his knees. He forced himself to follow the rules and bowed to the commander as well. "Blessings to our respected Commander Wenjinkai."

"I come bearing a glorious proclamation from the great Emperor and the benevolent Empress of our land." With a flick of the eunuch's wrist, the scroll opened, revealing unmistakable calligraphy and the blood-red imperial seal.

"Li Xueyue, the daughter of Lord Li Chenyang and Duchess Li Qixing, has been given a golden opportunity to represent the goodwill of our nation to our neighboring nation of Hanjian! At the first light of dawn, Hanjian will welcome her with open arms!"

"Please step forward, Miss Li, you have this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!"

His words were welcoming and dubious, but at a wave of his hand the soldiers came forward. They were ready to escort her to the imperial chamber, and if she tried to escape they had orders to seize her and drag her to the knees of the Emperor and Empress.

One of the girls had already tried to escape, but had been dragged down the golden staircase. She was humiliated until she tearfully begged to be married.

Li Wenmin's hand hovered over the hilt of his sword, his eyes flashing dangerously. Which soldier would be stupid enough to approach Xueyue first? Who would dare to lay a hand on his sister?

"Ms. Li, don't be shy." The eunuch smiled brightly and gestured to the crowd. Everyone smiled eagerly for her, but deep down they were all glad that their daughter was not chosen to marry in a foreign land and forced to start a new life among the enemy.

"Look, everyone is waiting for you to perform the ceremony." The eunuch bent down and waved his hand towards the ground, where a long, gorgeous carpet was laid out for Xueyue to step on. It was the brightest shade of red, decorated with golden borders and patterns.

Xueyue did not move, and they fell into silence. Neither did Lord Li Chenyang and his wife. He protected her in front of him, while Duchess Li Qixing held Xueyue tightly against her body.

"I know you are nervous. That is to be expected," the eunuch said in a friendly and cheerful tone. "These kind soldiers will guide you."

Suddenly, the soldiers took a step forward with great momentum. Their eyes were fixed on the target, that is, the beautiful woman in blue. They didn't want to offend such a big family, but a mission is a mission. They would carry it out, even if it meant sacrificing themselves for the mission. This was the purpose of their cruel training.

"I can see that you are still hesitating. Well, don't be afraid." The eunuch nodded. This was the signal these soldiers needed to force their way through King Li Chenyang. A sharp gasp was heard, and the sound of a sword being unsheathed was clearly audible.

"Did I give the order to approach the Prime Minister?" Li Wenmin snorted coldly, his eyes burning. If necessary, he was ready to kill.

"Stand at attention!" he roared, and the sound made the soldiers' spines stiffen and they exchanged glances.

Li Wenmin's rank is several levels above the average imperial soldier, but these are not regular soldiers. They are actually part of a private army, trained by a no-nonsense commander who wants the best for them. His methods are gruesome and arduous, but ultimately produce excellent soldiers with an unwavering conscience who sacrifice everything for their country.

Not wanting to offend this distinguished general, the soldiers quickly turned to him, clasped their fists and announced: "We cannot carry out General Li Wenmin's order. Please forgive our rudeness."

These were the last words they said before they arrested Li Xueyue.
