Commander Wen Jinkai suppressed the twitching of his mouth and smiled triumphantly. He put one hand on the hilt of the sword and continued to move forward, as if he had not heard Li Xueyue's pleasant voice.

"Commander," she breathed, her voice filled with irritation.

He ignored her words and continued to stroll, taking in his surroundings. His cheerful mood dimmed when he noticed something disturbing. The Fourth Prince was conferring with the Emperor. His eyes narrowed. He had to investigate what this babbling fool was whispering.

"You are rude." Xueyue caught up with Wen Jinkai, stood beside him, and said angrily.

He tilted his head, looking down at her. She was so small that he couldn't resist placing his gloved hand on top of her head. He could easily rest his chin on top of her head if he wanted to.

She tensed up and looked up at him. She found it interesting that he looked even more alert than King Li. She realized that there was a slight cut on his right eyebrow, probably from a minor scuffle. Strange, didn't Li Chenyang also have a scar on his eyebrow? Did they have a fight when they were kids?

"If I'm rude, what does that mean to you?"

Xueyue resisted the urge to shiver at the sound of his husky voice. It was velvety smooth yet brittle, like silk wrapped around a sword. "I don't know what you're talking about-" She gasped as he placed a hand on the small curve of her back and pulled her towards him. Her eyes widened and her hand instantly flew to his chest, closing the distance.

"Commander!" she said angrily. "This is inappropriate! Let me go," she hissed, pushing at his chest. Like an indestructible mountain, he did not move.

“Someone’s watching, who do you think you are?” She raged, her hands balled into fists. She raised her knees, but he had anticipated what she would do. With his powerful thighs, he instantly suppressed her knees. This made her lose her balance, but he immediately caught her with a playful smile.

"You must think this is a smart move on your part."

“I’m going to scream this goddamn murder!” she hissed, her head craned toward the tent, wondering if the Lee had seen her. She was more worried about what her family would think than the whispers that were instantly coming from behind and around her. People were starting to talk about her.

"Why don't you save that voice for the night?" he quipped, looking down at her. Her robe had shifted, revealing one of her fine features, but he kept his eyes on her hazel ones. She was surprised by his words, but had not forgiven him for his brutal treatment of her.

"Let me go, you damned rascal," she scolded.

When she was down, Wen Jinkai found her even more charming. There was a gleam in her eyes that he had never seen before. Her cute button nose wrinkled, and her eyes were full of passion. He decided then and there that he wanted her. Whether as a mistress or a lover, he didn't know.

He released her without warning and she gasped when she realized she was about to fall, but he caught her at the last moment, a mischievous glint in his eyes before he straightened her up.

"Y-you--!" Xueyue was now panting, a faint blush on her face. "So maybe asking him to let me go was a bad idea," she thought to herself.

"You lack proper etiquette," she deadpanned.

"Is that the best insult you could possibly think of?" he asked heartily, brushing stray hair away from her face.

Wen Jinkai felt guilty for messing up her hair, but he didn't know what it would look like with her hair scattered on the bed. The thought was enough to make him swallow and clear his throat. He didn't know what he was thinking or what he felt.

"You're so terrible. If you think I can fall in love with you like this, you're so wrong." Xue Yue said harshly. She tried to calm her erratic heart. When his eyes suddenly turned to her, her heart skipped a beat. When his lips twisted into a mocking smile, she felt an uncomfortable churn in her stomach.

He frowned: "Who said I wanted you to fall in love with me?"

"From the look of you," he sighed, "I think you're trying to seduce me." He glanced down at her dishevelled robe, which had split a little, revealing her drooping chest. His eyes lingered on her collarbone, which was covered in creamy skin, soft and inviting to the touch.

She froze and looked down, horrified at the sight of herself. She fumbled to close her robe, but he chuckled and stole a clip from her hair, undoing the bottom half of her locks.

"What are you doing?!" she whispered sternly, her whole body tensing as he pulled her long hair over her shoulders until it completely covered her breasts. Next, he adjusted her collar until she was completely covered.

She did nothing but blink and stare up at him. "I'm not going to thank you because you're the one who screwed it up in the first place."

He paused, biting his lower lip, and her eyes immediately followed his movements. He wanted to laugh, but when he saw the movement of her eyes, his body froze.

Her heart began to race at the sight of his alluring lips and she knew she had to look away. She needed to look away before they did something they would regret.

"What are you doing?" A cold voice sounded from the side. Li Wenmin's hand was already on the hilt of the sword.

The commander acted as if he hadn't heard her. He straightened up and adjusted her hair one last time. In an instant, he pulled her closer. When he lowered his head, she froze.

He growled, "Wear my pendant next time."

Without even looking at her, he stormed off.

Xueyue told herself that she shouldn't look at him. At a moment like this, this was the worst thing to do.

'Don't look. Don't look. Don't--' Even though she told herself this, her eyes still drifted to him. His shoulders were broad and muscular, hugging his fitted clothes. His upper body was wide, but the muscles tapered down to a delicate waist.

"Xueyue." A voice sounded beside her. Li Wenmin grabbed her shoulders tightly, trying to divert her attention to himself. "Did he do anything to you?"

Xueyue's eyes continued to wander in the direction where the commander was walking away. He didn't look back at her, but she saw that his fingers were clenched into fists. He wanted to see, but he couldn't.

“Li Xueyue!” Li Wenmin exclaimed, her shoulders shaking slightly. Finally, she moved her gaze to him. He was furious. The veins on his forehead burst, and his eyebrows knitted together.

"Did he hurt you? Did he take advantage of you?" Li Wenmin suddenly turned his head and looked at Wen Jinkai who was standing near the grand staircase leading to the royal room.

"Really?" There was a dangerous edge to his voice, but it didn't diminish how much he cared about her.

Xueyue realized that Li Wenmin hadn't noticed the commander suddenly grabbing her. She licked her lips nervously, trying to find a suitable answer. She looked at Wen Jinkai for the last time. He was almost at the top of the stairs now, and he lowered his head and whispered something to the emperor.

For the first time in her life, Xue Yue lied to one of the twins. "No. He didn't do anything."
