Li Xueyue left the room without looking back. But she stood outside for a while and then turned to a maid.

"Keep an eye on her," she instructed, keeping her words deliberately vague.

The maid bowed her head and responded, understanding the meaning of the Crown Princess's order.

Li Xueyue nodded in agreement. Without saying anything, she walked away. She was about to walk towards Yu Zhen's private study, but she stopped. Suddenly she thought of a plan...

She retracted her steps and began walking towards a pavilion.

Li Xueyue was sure that the woman must be there. She had not forgotten her encounter with Yu Zhen in the corridor.

"Take the parchment and ink to Qianlian Pavilion," she said to the maid. The servant nodded and hurried to fulfill the request.

Li Xueyue continued to walk towards the pavilion. Sure enough, it was empty inside. Seeing the blooming lotus, she understood why this place was named so. It was indeed a fascinating sight. There was a sweet fragrance in the air, but it was not pungent.

“How beautiful,” she whispered, reaching her hand toward the pond.

Li Xueyue gently stroked the lotus petals, a smile on her lips. She saw a small koi swimming leisurely in the pond.

"But the sun is too bright, don't you think?" she said to the maids, and they all nodded in agreement.

"Indeed, Princess. Your fair skin might be harmed."

Li Xueyue hummed. With so much powder on her face, she wondered if the sun would scratch her real skin. In any case, she stepped onto the bridge leading to the green and red pavilion.

"What a nice breeze," she commented, sitting down.

Li Xueyue sat calmly, resting her chin gently on her supporting arm, observing the surrounding scenery.

As far as the eye can see, there are lotus flowers everywhere. I don't know why, but there are so many flowers, which gives me a feeling of fear. There are more white lotus flowers than pink lotus flowers.

"Crown Princess." A voice came from the side.

Li Xueyue turned her head and saw the maid who had just come. She was holding a carefully crafted wooden tray filled with parchment, brushes, and ink.

Li Xueyue smiled with satisfaction. The maid lowered her head and went forward to set the table. She placed a smooth mat neatly under the parchment. Then another servant began to grind ink.

"You also brought tea. That's very thoughtful of you." Li Xueyue said enthusiastically.

The maid was caught off guard by the compliment. She had served in the palace all her life, but had never heard such compliments from her superiors. She lay on the ground and smiled shyly.

“And it smells delicious,” Li Xueyue commented.

"Thank you very much, Princess." The maid whispered. Obviously, she was moved by the princess' generosity.

The maids looked at each other. They also wanted to hear such praise. This was very rare.

Li Xueyue watched as everyone hurriedly worked harder to please her. From diligently grinding the ink to make it smooth, to twisting the end of the brush to make the handwriting more neat, they worked hard.

Everything went according to plan. She would slowly win over these maids until they were completely on her side and served as her eyes and ears in the palace.

"That should be enough." Li Xueyue said.

The maid quickly stepped back to let her write in peace. They stood aside, patiently waiting for the next order.

Li Xueyue held the paintbrush in one hand and pulled her sleeve back with the other. She breathed through her nose and cleared her mind. It was time to go to work.

She began to write down everything that needed to be brought up during the roundtable discussion, and wrote down some general ideas from her observations in the town.

Li Xueyue was halfway through writing her thoughts when she heard footsteps. She hid her satisfied smile. They arrived just in time.

"Oh, it looks like someone already lives here."

Hearing the familiar voice of the Queen, Li Xueyue raised her head. She pretended to be shocked, her eyes slightly widened. She lowered her body and curtseyed gracefully.

"Good afternoon, Your Majesty," she said.

The queen nodded. "Princess Li, you can get up now."

Li Xueyue raised her head and her eyes drifted towards the palace maids behind the queen.

"Greetings, Crown Princess." The palace maids reluctantly knelt down.

Li Xueyue ignored them. Instead, she moved her body slightly, letting the sun illuminate her face and reveal her cake-like makeup. In the background, there was a whisper like busy bees.

"Oh..." The Queen's voice trailed off, and the corners of her lips wrinkled. What a terrible sight!

Li Xueyue pretended not to know. Her eyebrows knitted together. "Is there a problem, Your Majesty?"

"Yes, your face."

Li Xueyue didn't expect the queen to be so outspoken. But this was her new understanding of herself.

"Is there something wrong with my makeup?" Li Xueyue asked, her voice full of doubt. As the maids began to speak, she touched her cheek.

"Princess, it seems that you used expired powder. Oh my God... your maid actually used it on you. It's terrible."

"Yeah, what a pity, your wrinkles are deeper than a lotus pond now."

"Well... you know what Wuyi women say. They're too self-conscious, so they always use layers of makeup to cover up their flaws."

Li Xueyue sighed. "It seems my maid has failed me."

The Queen frowned. "Oh?"

"Yeah, Xu Jiaqi recently assigned it to me." Li Xueyue muttered. She sighed again.

"Madam Xu insisted on dressing me. Since she mentioned His Majesty, I trust her judgment." Li Xueyue explained lightly. She looked at the Queen with a worried look in her eyes.

The queen was very angry. Not because of Li Xueyue, but because of Xu Jiaqi. She had told Madam Xu to be careful with her words. Moreover, Xu Jiaqi had used the queen's name without authorization.

"Is that so?" the Queen said sharply. Her face was filled with disappointment, which overshadowed the dissatisfaction in her eyes.

The maids exchanged horrified glances. Unknowingly, they fell into the Crown Princess's trap. Their mouths were immediately blocked. In an instant, their eyes shifted to the ground.

Suddenly, polished stone tiles became far more interesting than ever before.

"Oh no." Li Xueyue whispered, covering her mouth. "I have no intention of complaining, Your Majesty."

The Queen slowly shook her head. "It's alright, Princess Li, you are just expressing your opinion."

Li Xueyue smiled timidly. She clenched her fingers and took a step aside, as if hiding something.

"Princess Li, why are you here?" the queen asked with a puzzled tone.

"Uh...just." Li Xueyue lowered her voice.

The Queen was even more curious. It was rare for a headstrong woman to be so timid. She had never seen this side of the Crown Princess before. But her performance needed some adjustments. It might fool the maids, but the Queen didn't care.

"I wanted a quiet, peaceful place to write down my thoughts, your majesty. I have no intention of intruding here."

"I'm sure you didn't." The Queen smiled. She glanced to the side. "Any ideas?"

"Your Highness, let's have a round table discussion." Li Xueyue said. Suddenly, a sharp gasp sounded. The palace maids hurriedly whispered.

Li Xueyue was puzzled. What happened?
