Li Xueyue's mind went blank. Her smile froze, and she looked at the child in disbelief. Could it be that... this little boy, who was less than three years old, actually claimed that Yu Zhen was his father? For example, Prince Yuzhen? Like that barbaric commander? !

She blinked—once, twice—and looked back again, letting out an awkward laugh. She was stunned by what the little boy had said.

Li Xueyue's lips tightened with laughter. She wanted to frown, but couldn't. It wasn't in her nature to blame her children for the sins of their parents - especially when the same thing happened to her.

She suppressed a sigh and straightened up. Together they walked back along the stone walkway to the wooden porch.

They turned a corner and found a guard pointing them in the right direction back to the Crown Princess Estate.

The guard stared at the child blankly but said nothing. He even offered to take them back himself, but the little boy was scared.

"No..." he whispered, hugging Li Xueyue's legs in fear.

Li Xueyue carefully reached out and patted his head, hoping to calm him down.

“It’s OK,” she said. “I can get back on my own.”

The guard bowed in response. "Very well, Your Highness."

Li Xueyue stroked the little boy's head again, comforting him that everything would be fine. He just looked up at her with his big eyes. It was sad to see such a little boy lose faith in the world.

She wondered what had happened to him.

Not long after, Li Xueyue finally found a maid. The maid bowed deeply to the Crown Princess.

"Princess." The maid greeted respectfully, but her eyes could not help but fall on the little boy beside the princess.

"Take me back to the manor." Li Xueyue ordered, and the child hugged her legs again. His little hands grabbed her clothes, wrinkling every part he touched.

But Li Xueyue didn't mind. The wrinkles in the silk would eventually fade. She gently stroked the back of his head again, brushing the strands of hair away from his face. He seemed more at ease with her now.

"I understand, Princess," said the maid.

Together, they walked towards the Crown Princess's residence. Everywhere they went, people stopped and bowed to show respect to the Princess. Some even stared at the child. They were surprised to see the little boy because many people recognized him. Who wouldn't?

"Your Highness, we're here," said the maid.

Li Xueyue nodded in response. She was glad to see the familiar layout in front of her.

"Let's go," she whispered to the boy as they walked down the hallway hand in hand.

His curious eyes took in everything, looking in awe at the magnificent sight. Once upon a time, he had lived in a place like this.

But he couldn't remember the specifics. Everything in his mind became blurry. He remembered the gentle hands of a woman, but her face and name had long since disappeared from his memory.

"Your father still has a lot to explain." Li Xueyue muttered softly. Without hesitation, she walked towards Yu Zhen's private study.

"Greetings, Princess." The eunuch bowed deeply. "Princess, is there anything I can do for you?"

Li Xueyue pursed her lips. The pendant she dropped last time was safely in her pocket. She had picked it up shortly before entering his private study that day.

Li Xueyue hesitated whether to give Yu Zhen a surprise, but then again, what could be more shocking than seeing her with a child?

"Is the prince in there?" Li Xueyue asked.

The eunuch shook his head slowly. "I'm afraid not, Princess. The prince has not returned since he left just now."

Li Xueyue raised her eyebrows. Did this mean that Yu Zhen was still looking for her? She wondered if she should go back to her room.

But at this moment, she saw him out of the corner of her eye. She opened her mouth, ready to call him, but stopped. Xu Jiaqi was walking towards Yu Zhen.

Li Xueyue observed the encounter. Xu Jiaqi bowed her head and saluted, but Yu Zhen walked past her. He treated her like air. Seeing this scene, she raised the corners of her mouth with satisfaction.

After a moment, she frowned. Jealousy was not a good color for her. She couldn't help it. He brought out the worst in her.

"Your Highness." Li Xueyue approached and saw her clearly, and said coldly. She let go of the child's hand, put her hands aside, and knelt down.

She felt his glare before she saw him. He was angry at her greeting. But she didn't care. How could he hide the existence of this child from her?

"Princess."

Li Xueyue raised her head, but his attention was no longer on her. It was the child who grabbed her legs and hid behind her.

"Come in," he said gruffly, pointing to his private study.

Li Xueyue didn't need to be told a second time. She glared back and placed an encouraging hand on the child's upper back. She led him inside, with Yu Zhen following closely behind her.

When the door slammed loudly, the child jumped up, groaned, hugged her legs, and hid behind her.

"Whose child is that hiding behind you?" Yu Zhen asked. He reached out to grab the child's shoulder, but she slapped him.

Li Xueyue turned around. She nearly stumbled as the child moved with her movements. He continued to hold her leg, using it as a barrier against the scary man.

"You mean you don't even recognize your own son?" Li Xueyue gritted her teeth.

"What the hell are you talking about?"

Li Xueyue narrowed her eyes. She pointed at the child behind her. "This little boy said you are his father."

Yu Zhen narrowed his eyes. "I've never had a child."

Li Xueyue crossed her arms. "Children don't lie."

"Children say whatever they think," Yu Zhen said through gritted teeth. "You're mad at me again. Why?"

Li Xueyue couldn't believe that he asked such a stupid question. Otherwise, why wouldn't she be angry? First, he had a son, and second, he lied to her face.

Yu Zhen looked down at the child hiding behind Li Xueyue. How could such a small bean bring him so much trouble? He would not accept it. Without warning, he approached her and grabbed the child.

She gasped, reaching out to grab his wrist. "You're going to hurt him!" she exclaimed. She was too late.

Yu Zhen grabbed the child's shoulders. The little boy cried and resisted his hand.

"Stop!" Li Xueyue cursed, rushing forward to help the child. She pushed Yu Zhen's hand away and knelt down to the child's height.

"Does it hurt?" she whispered, pointing to his shoulder. Without warning, the boy threw his arms around her.

Li Xueyue blinked in surprise. When he put his arms around her neck, she slowly patted his upper back.

“This is not my child.”

Li Xueyue frowned. "How could you treat him like this? Children are very fragile!"

Yu Zhen purses his lips. It's a very lovely moment for him. She'll be a great mother. But that's not the point of this discussion.

"Do you know whose child that is?" he hissed.

"Obviously it's you."

"No, my little fool."

She looked up sharply when she heard his words.

"The child in your arms is the child of Viscount Bai Sheng and Viscountess Mu Yihua."
