Reborn Daughter: The Young Lady Wants to Make a Trouble

Chapter 267 Why Don’t You Run Faster?

As soon as Li Xueyue entered the house, she found the servants walking quickly in the corridor. They bowed when they saw her, but soon left.

The corners of her lips turned up, revealing a faint smile. Someone is home! She rushed through the corridor excitedly, not caring how unladylike her behavior was. When she reached the front door, she saw Li Chenyang walking into the Li Mansion along the stone path.

"Brother Chen!" she yelled, and walked out in her indoor shoes. She might get scolded for this, but she didn't care.

"Xueyue." Li Chenyang saw her and called softly, smiling. He looked tired, but still had the energy to pat her head warmly.

"You look a mess, as usual," he said, chuckling at the sight of her messy hair and rumpled training robes.

"Brother Chen, you came home later than usual." Li Xueyue said when she saw that it was finally getting dark. But where was the Duke?

"I am," he agreed. "It was a tiring day in court today," Li Chenyang said in a deep voice. He had argued so much with other ministers in court that his voice was a little hoarse.

"You bite your nails too much." When he withdrew his hand, Li Xueyue glanced at his fingers and whispered. "Are you so busy today?"

"Yes, we are arguing about who will inherit the throne." Li Chenyang said tiredly. "Since the second prince is ill, everyone still has high hopes for the fourth prince to recover."

"Are the Second and Fourth Princes still alive?" Li Xueyue asked. She was so surprised when she heard the news that her eyes widened. Doesn't this mean that there are two more heirs to the throne?

"It's a pity, but you don't have to worry about these things. They won't have any impact on you. You should focus your mind elsewhere." Li Chenyang comforted.

"However, I am still willing to help. Please tell me if there is anything I can help with." Li Xueyue defended.

Li Chenyang placed his thumb between his brows and chuckled. "If you keep worrying like this, you'll get wrinkles," he chided.

Li Xueyue blinked. She touched her forehead, not realizing that her brows had knitted together. "I can't help it. I want to repay you for everything you've done for me."

"You're saying such stupid things again." Li Chenyang groaned. Looking at her determined expression, he smiled slightly. "The only help you can provide is to smile and enjoy life."

"But—ouch!" Li Xueyue muttered as he flicked her forehead. She grabbed the burnt area and glared at him.

"I just want to see if it still works." Li Chenyang knocked on it and smiled. "Hello? Is anyone home?"

Li Xueyue kicked his calf angrily. Seeing her reaction, he laughed.

"You are like a wild animal." Li Chenyang commented. He had never seen a woman as unruly as her. Well, she dressed up as a lady very well.

"I hope it hurts." Li Xueyue muttered softly.

"What's that?" he asked, putting his ear towards her.

Li Xueyue rolled her eyes. "Come in quickly."

Li Chenyang just shook his head at her attitude. "I'm right here, hoping to have a cute little sister."

"Well, I wanted a good-looking brother. I guess neither of us got what we wanted, did we?"

"You kid." Li Chenyang retorted.

Li Xueyue stuck out her tongue at him. When he rushed forward, she screamed and flicked her forehead again. She rushed into the house frantically, and he caught up with her.

"Come back, I haven't returned your kindness yet!" he shouted from behind, but she continued to run.

Their footsteps were so loud that they echoed in the quiet house, and many servants rushed to the corridor railings for fear of being in their way.

Li Xueyue laughed mockingly as she saw him trying to catch up. She was grateful for her training clothes, otherwise she would have tripped over them if she had worn a long skirt.

When she turned a corner, she almost bumped into someone. "Mother!" Li Xueyue exclaimed and stopped abruptly.

Li Xueyue was panting and nervously tidying up her messy clothes. "Brother Chen is home." She said breathlessly.

Duchess Wang Qixing stared at her daughter with disapproval. She took out a handkerchief and roughly wiped Xueyue's face. "How many times do I have to tell you kids not to run around in the corridor?"

"Uh... a few more times?" Li Xueyue responded, and was pinched angrily on the cheek. "Ouch..." She rubbed the sore spot and muttered.

“You are here!” Li Chenyang saw her and called out. When he saw his mother, he also stopped in a hurry.

"Mom." Li Chenyang greeted with a smile. "I'm home."

"You were so loud that our ancestors in heaven heard you go home." Mrs. Wang Qixing said through gritted teeth. "Now you look like a mess. Both of you are like this. Go clean it up."

"No, I'd rather eat dinner in dirty clothes." Li Chenyang said sarcastically, and the next second he let out a painful howl. "Mom, it's not the ears, it's not the ears! It's big enough."

"I might as well give you monkey ears." Duchess Wang Qixing pulled her son's ears and hissed. "You shouldn't talk back to your mother. And in such a sarcastic tone."

"Okay, I won't." Li Chenyang snorted. When he began to rub the sore spot, she finally let go of his ear.

"Now, get yourselves together. Both of you."

Li Xueyue didn't need to be told a second time. She walked away quickly before Chen Yang caught up with her.

"Why don't you run faster?" a voice shouted from behind her.

Li Xueyue turned around and stuck out her tongue at Chen Yang, who squinted at her. He pretended to walk towards her, but she quickly ran away before him.

Li Xueyue ignored his taunting and walked quickly into her room. The servants were already waiting for her. They rushed her into the bathroom on her side of the house. The water for the bath had already been prepared for her when she came back from training, but it took too long, so they had to boil water again.

Li Xueyue slowly entered the large bathtub in the center of the room. She sighed with satisfaction and sank deeper into the water.

It wasn't long before she was cleaned up and prepared for the evening. Servants braided her hair and plaited it on top of her head. She put on her nightgown and was sent off for dinner.

Li Xueyue found that the wind was strong tonight. The pale moon hid behind a thin curtain of clouds. There was silence in the air. Although she was surrounded by servants on the way to the restaurant, she still had a hunch that something was wrong.

Li Xueyue didn't know what it was, so she ignored it.
