Reborn Daughter: The Young Lady Wants to Make a Trouble
Chapter 260 You Will Leave Soon
Li Xueyue tossed and turned in her bed, unable to fall asleep. Crickets chirped outside the window, and a breeze blew in. Her curtains fluttered in the distance. There was a calm in the air, which eased her tension.
Li Xueyue wondered if she was frightened by a nightmare and even felt afraid to sleep.
"How annoying," she complained.
After lying in bed for the longest hour, Li Xueyue jumped up and put on her shoes. She thought that a midnight walk in the garden should be able to exhaust the energy in her body.
Li Xueyue opened the door and was not surprised to see the guards stationed outside. They had been there all along. When they saw her in her pajamas, they all straightened up.
"Good evening, young lady." A guard said. "How may we help you?"
"I'm going to take a walk in the garden. I can't sleep." Li Xueyue said as she bent down to pick up a lantern at the door.
The guards exchanged glances. The palace was heavily guarded, but it was unclear whether King Li Chenyang would allow her to wander around at this late hour.
"Don't worry, it won't be near the main entrance. I can just go for a walk in my mother's garden." Li Xueyue said to them.
"Miss, do you need us to send someone to accompany you?"
"No, it's okay." Li Xueyue replied. She walked silently down the corridor, leading directly to the Duchess's private garden.
She gently pushed open the wooden fence and approached the pavilion. She remembered deeply an encounter with Chen Yang there. She burst into tears at the time and thought that this was the reason for his bullying. Hearing this thought, she chuckled.
"Who's there?"
Li Xueyue's body froze. She raised her lantern and saw a figure in the distance. The outline was thin and small, and it was undoubtedly the outline of a woman.
Li Xueyue remembered Chen Yang's instructions. She knew that it was Li Minghua standing in the pavilion, probably sleeping. She bit her lower lip, slowly took a few steps back, and began to retreat towards the gate.
"Why are you running? It's a ghost." Li Minghua walked to the edge of the pavilion and said.
Li Xueyue didn't respond. She slid toward the wooden fence and pushed it open.
"You'll be gone soon."
Li Xueyue paused. She turned her head and finally didn't look at Li Minghua. "What are you talking about?"
"You're just my substitute," Li Minghua said with a smile. "Why else do you think they let you live a life of luxury? All the gifts your parents gave you were what they wanted to give me, but I wasn't there to receive them."
This is what it all means. Li Xueyue's expression softened. She herself couldn't hate someone like her. Li Minghua must be too insecure about himself.
"I pity you." Li Xueyue said.
"What?" Li Minghua was furious. She stomped down the pavilion and came to the fearless woman. "Repeat it."
"You know, we don't have to do this." Li Xueyue turned around and said, "We can be ordinary sisters. I don't mean to replace you, and neither do your parents."
“Do you know how hard it was for me in the palace?” Li Minghua questioned. “I sacrificed my dignity and pride to keep my parents’ secret, but they picked up a crow from the street to replace the swan.”
Li Xueyue was used to such insults. It didn’t bother her. Not at all. Compared to Viscount Bai Sheng’s words, Li Minghua’s ridicule was child’s play. At this point, nothing could hurt her. Her thick skin was both a blessing and a curse.
"You are angered by your parents' behavior," Li Xueyue pointed out. "I can understand where you are coming from."
"I don't need you to understand, I need the replacement to disappear from my life." Li Minghua deadpanned. "I would be grateful if you could just go back to where you came from."
Li Xueyue pursed her lips. "If you feel this way, please tell your parents." After saying that, she turned around and pushed the wooden fence open.
"Wen Jinkai also sees you as my replacement," Li Minghua added.
Li Xueyue told herself that she would never doubt Chen Yang’s words. He was right. She should stay away from Ming Hua. Why did she stop at the beginning?
Li Minghua felt that her words were sharper than a knife. She hoped that it could pierce directly through Xueyue, twisting herself into a nice and comfortable place full of suspicion and fear. She smiled foolishly. This Xueyue was just a small-time gangster that she could easily get rid of.
"It's really pitiful that you think of yourself this way." Li Xueyue said without turning to face Minghua. "Do you really think you can be replaced so easily? Do you hate yourself so much?"
Li Minghua was stunned. She had never thought of this before. She loved herself. She loved her beauty, the brightness of her smile. She loved the wealth and privilege into which she was born.
Li Minghua swore that she loved herself, but the more she thought about it, the less she believed it.
Li Xueyue didn't wait for the young woman to respond. She just slipped out of the garden and headed straight for her bedroom, but then she stopped. She heard light footsteps coming from the corridor.
She sighed helplessly and turned around. As expected, Li Minghua was walking towards her.
Li Xueyue put the lantern on the ground in annoyance and folded her arms. When will this girl learn? Why can't Minghua get over this incident? They can live in peace. This doesn't look like the Duke and Duchess' favorite!
Li Xueyue began to understand why the queen looked down on Minghua so much. That kind of arrogance and persistence were annoying.
“What are you trying to do—” Minghua lunged forward, arms flailing, and she gasped and stumbled backwards.
"Are you crazy?!" Li Xueyue hissed.
Li Minghua did not respond. She waved again, this time aiming directly at Xueyue's face.
In the blink of an eye, Li Xueyue grabbed Minghua's wrist.
"Let me go!" Li Minghua questioned, trying to pull his hand back. "Li Xueyue, you are so despicable. How dare you break into my home, my life, my room? What right do you have?! And you come to scold me, who do you think you are?"
Li Xueyue took the weapon from Minghua. She looked down and found that it was a hairpin that was extremely sharp. Xueyue was shocked when she realized something.
Li Minghua didn't mean to kill her. She was trying to hurt her face.
"You tried to ruin my face," Li Xueyue said. "You won't get away with this."
"Oh, really? Who will punish me?" Li Minghua hissed. "My brothers? My parents? Wen Jinkai? The dead queen? Who dares to do this to me?"
Li Xueyue was speechless. She really had no one to turn to. This house was not her battlefield. It was Minghua's.
"Bai Xueyue, get out of here while I'm still good." Li Minghua said in a hissing voice. "Leave, or the High Court will expose your crimes."
It was like pouring a bucket of cold water on Xueyue. She had never thought that Li Minghua actually knew her previous identity.
"You know nothing about me." Li Xueyue said angrily.
Li Minghua's lips curled up into a mocking smile. She took a threatening step forward. "Oh, but I know, dear, you were sentenced to death by beating in the house of Viscount Baisheng for brutally murdering the janitor."
Li Xueyue wanted to run, but she couldn't. She was like rooted in the ground. Her confidence and superiority over Minghua seemed to be just an illusion. This girl knew more than she said.
"That's what you don't have to worry about the least." Li Minghua smiled. "Poor thing, you don't even know who your biological father is. A bastard, a murderer. Who would be willing to marry you now?"
"I totally don't understand what you are talking about." Li Xueyue said gritting her teeth.
Li Minghua laughed without any warmth. There was a hint of mania in her eyes. It was as if she wanted to suck blood. "Your little prince may be able to shut up the Bai family, but I have evidence to destroy you."
No matter what game Li Minghua played, Li Xueyue was afraid. Her fingertips became cold with fear.
"Go away," Li Minghua said, gesturing with his fingers as if he was chasing away a stray animal. "I feel sick just by looking at you."
Li Xueyue gritted her teeth. She pressed her fingers into her palms. If she left now, it would be Minghua's victory. If she went back to her room, Minghua would always have the upper hand. This was not a battle she could not afford to lose.
