The ministers didn't know where they were going. After all, the entire palace was in a mess. Where could they find the emperor?

"This is very strange," Baron Han said as the ministers walked through the empty corridors. "A bunch of crazy soldiers invaded the palace, and there's not a single body in the corridors. If it was a bunch of rebels, wouldn't they have killed everyone?"

Lord Li Chenyang gritted his teeth. This baron really said a lot to people with zero influence. “Who knows what these people are thinking?”

Baron Han glanced at Duchess Wang Qixing, whose face he couldn't see clearly. Half of her face was pressed against her husband's chest, and the other half was covered by her hair. He didn't think that the stoic prime minister was such a likable husband. All this was too suspicious...

“Where exactly are we going?” Baron Han asked, observing his surroundings. He was not familiar with this part of the palace, as his duties were always around the throne room.

"When we got outside the palace, we saw how quiet it was, so we guessed the chaos was over. If we were victorious, then there would probably be eunuchs who could take us to see the emperor," King Li Chenyang explained.

“You are remarkably calm about this whole ordeal, Prime Minister,” Baron Han said sarcastically. “This is all so strange.”

"In the face of the storm, someone has to stay calm, otherwise we are all a bunch of brainless chickens." Li Chenyanggong retorted.

Baron Han frowned. He still hadn't gotten over what the Li family had done to his precious daughter, Han Jieru. To this day, her reputation hadn't been restored.

"It's almost like you—"

"Husband," Ning Hou interrupted, flashing a warning smile in the baron's direction. "How about you take your wife home first? I'm sure she's been shocked by what happened today."

Lord Li Chenyang weighed the pros and cons. He looked down at Duchess Wang Qixing, whose superb acting skills had bewildered everyone.

With his wife around, he would arouse less suspicion, since the comfort he provided her could justify his silence, but then again, if she were at home, she could take the lead and control the situation outside the palace.

Mr. Li Chenyang trusted his children, but at the end of the day, they were still young people. They needed someone to guide them in case things went to the worst.

"Would you, would you like to go home with me, dear?" Duchess Wang Qixing asked deliberately, knowing what her husband would say. She asked this question specifically to dispel his suspicion.

"No, dear, I am afraid my duty is to this country." Duke Li Chenyang held her hand and explained gently. "I must find our emperor and make sure he is safe."

This was the reaction that Duchess Wang Qixing had expected. The worry on the duke’s face was enough to make the suspicious Baron Han lose track. The other ministers should also be reassured by the duke’s reaction, because it showed that their prime minister still cared about the emperor.

“Yes, please find my dear brother! You must promise me, dear!” Duchess Wang Qixing pleaded. Her eyes were wet with tears, and she looked up at him like a distressed maiden.

Seeing her excellent acting skills, King Li Chenyang held back his smile. Instead, he wiped the tears from her eyes and nodded. “I will do everything I can to find him, don’t worry, the emperor’s safety is my top priority.”

Duchess Wang Chil-sing sniffed and nodded, pretending to be disobedient. "Oh, once we are out of the corridors and palace grounds, I will go home and pray for everyone's safety."

Judging from the couple's behavior, Baron Han knew that he could no longer accuse the Li family of any rebellion. Their behavior was too cute to ignore.

Li Xueyue covered her forehead and stumbled. The pain began to subside, but it was still there. She wondered what was causing her splitting headache. She concluded that it was most likely the handkerchief pressed against her nose that caused the reaction.

She gritted her teeth. "Who on earth did this?" she muttered to herself.

There were too many things for Li Xueyue to think about. From the appearance of Li Minghua to the death of the queen... She was trembling all over.

Li Xueyue suddenly remembered the image of the queen slumped to the ground. Although she only saw it for a few seconds, it was an unbearable sight. It all seemed suspicious to her.

"Suddenly Li Minghua appeared, and then I was knocked unconscious from behind... I should have known that my intuition was right, there was really someone next to me in the corridor." Li Xueyue bit her lower lip and muttered to herself.

"Who could it be?" she muttered as she trudged forward until she stumbled upon a group of soldiers in the distance. Whether they were friends or foes, she didn't know.

Li Xueyue was afraid that something would happen to her if she was discovered, so she immediately tried to sneak into one of the rooms, but found that the room was locked.

"We see someone!" a soldier shouted.

Li Xueyue cursed under her breath. It's now or never. She rushed to the other side of the corridor, hoping that one of the corners would confuse them.

Li Xueyue wished she could run faster, but the strain of running only made her headache worse. She touched her forehead and groaned in protest. How strong was the drug that it hadn't worn off after so long?

Li Xueyue didn't see where she was going and stumbled. This mistake slowed her down. She didn't know who was chasing her, or which soldiers were chasing her.

It was too late. When she turned around, someone grabbed her elbow. Li Xueyue waved her hand and screamed. It immediately combined with her body, making a loud slapping sound.

The hand on her elbow loosened and she tried to run, but was caught again. Li Xueyue had no time to waste. She kicked back, hoping to get her foot on his manberry. Unfortunately, he was used to her moves.

"Can you calm down?!" Wen Jinkai asked, pushing her legs apart. "Are you trying to make me infertile?" he hissed, turning her around.

Li Xueyue saw him and screamed in fear. "What are you doing here?"

"I should be the one asking you this question," Wen Jinkai said excitedly. "What are you doing snooping around the Queen's corridor?"

"I wasn't snooping, I got lost here," she lied. "The next thing I knew, I got hit in the head and woke up in a strange room."

Wen Jinkai paused. "Who would knock you out?"

"That's what I want to know." Li Xueyue muttered. "Listen, take me to the palace gate. I want to go home, and then-" She stopped herself. "Wait, what are you doing here too?"

Wen Jinkai's face became alert. "Nothing, come on, I'll take you out of the palace wall."

Although Li Xueyue was a little skeptical about his answer, she still decided to go with him.
