Reborn Daughter: The Young Lady Wants to Make a Trouble

Chapter 243 The Master Behind the Scenes

the next morning.

"Oh my god," Duchess Wang Qixing looked out the window and saw the same depressing stormy morning. "The rain hasn't stopped yet."

Li Xueyue turned to the Duchess. "Yes, in this case, I can only practice archery indoors. I hope the coach won't be too tired."

Duchess Wang Qixing nodded in response. "Although we are outside the capital, it will be a little difficult to come here, but don't worry, we will give them more compensation for today's lesson."

Li Xueyue smiled, glad that they could at least get a reward. She hadn't seen her mentor for a while.

"I do pity the people working in the forest. They will have to endure another night out there." Duchess Wang Qixing sighed. "Well, they are all hardworking people."

Li Xueyue was not sure who the Duchess was referring to. She suspected who this person was, but did not want to jump to conclusions.

Li Xueyue looked out the window, wondering if Yu Zhen was okay. Wouldn’t the rain hinder his way back to Hanjian? She felt uneasy at the thought of what difficulties he might encounter.

Li Xueyue didn't know that this was the least of her worries.

Li Chenyang stood in the rain with an umbrella. The palace courtyard spread out before him. From the bright red pillars soaked by the rain, turning a depressing wine red, to the golden roofs, everything here felt like home. He grew up in the palace with his father.

Lord Li Chenyang found it funny that he spent more time in the palace than at home. Compared with the prime ministers of other countries, his workload as prime minister was unbalanced.

"What are you thinking about, old friend?" the emperor asked as he watched his attendants loading the car.

Lord Li Chenyang turned to his old friend. Memories of their youth came flooding back to him. It was as if his body knew this would be the last time he would see the emperor's peaceful face.

"The weather is bad, not suitable for taking a car." said Mr. Li Chenyang.

The emperor laughed and said, "You are getting bolder every day. How come you forgot to address me?"

"Your Majesty," King Li Chenyang said sarcastically. "I wish you a safe journey."

Fadongdi snorted after hearing the Duke's tone. "You don't sound like you mean that."

"That's because I don't have one, Your Majesty. But for you, I will pray to a god I don't believe in." Lord Li Chenyang turned his head to look in the direction of the throne and pondered.

"Let's go in. We don't have to wait outside on a rainy day." Li Chenyang pointed to his umbrella, which could break at any time. The thick material began to absorb the heavy rainfall.

Fadongdi nodded. He walked in front of his friends and was the first to go in. After they were comfortably inside, he finally spoke. "Before you leave, I want to ask for something."

King Li Chenyang raised an eyebrow. "What is it?"

"I haven't seen your daughter for a long time." Fa Dongdi sighed in disappointment. "You like to keep her away from me, as if I would do anything to her."

"You've done enough." King Li Chenyang said calmly. "Do I need to remind you of your methods? From selecting her as the candidate for the Cold Sword, to forcing her to use the wishing object, laughing at her in front of a room full of people, and threatening to marry her." She walked away.

Fa Dongdi frowned when he heard this. "Han Jian was not chosen by me, but by your brother. Besides, I think she will have a good life in Han Jian. She seems to like the commander of Han Jian very much."

Lord Li Chenyang tried not to glare at the emperor. A hint of displeasure flashed in his eyes, but he looked away again. "She will definitely suffer in Hanjian. The candidates are simply sacrificed, and the candidates' fathers are still angry."

Emperor Fadong smiled deeply. "The angry nobles and ministers are not my problem, but your problem."

Li Chenyang gritted his teeth. "As Prime Minister, my job is to advise you and share some of the workload. I shouldn't take over your position."

"But isn't this what you wanted, my good friend?" Fadongdi turned his head and said, "You wanted to be the ruler behind the scenes. I gave you this privilege. In return, I lived a happy life."

"I never wanted to be in this position. I retired for a reason, but you decided otherwise." King Li Chenyang said solemnly. He should have left the palace long ago.

“You called me back two years ago,” King Li Chenyang sighed.

Emperor Fadong smiled. "Yes, the months you were away from court were so chaotic and exhausting. I had no time for myself or my concubines. My children were too noisy, and they demanded my time when I had a country to take care of."

Duke Li Chenyang clenched his fingers into fists. He still had a wife and children to take care of. Because of the emperor, the only time the Duke had with his wife and children was a brief breakfast together every morning. The Duke always came home late every day, and he was too tired to entertain anyone.

"I am glad to have a friend like you who supports me and is useful to me." Emperor Fadong said longingly. He smiled as he recalled the good memories of their youth. "Remember when you once secretly gave me answers through the window without the teacher's knowledge?"

King Li Chenyang laughed out loud. He remembered those days so vividly that the back of his legs burned. “Yes, I will stand by the window and tell you the answer yourself, you idiot.”

Emperor Fadong laughed. He ignored this insult that was worthy of beheading. "Your tactics are too obvious. You are always caught. The late emperor always wants to beat you. Your father is very disappointed in you."

Lord Li Chenyang will never forget that sore. When he was a little boy, his legs were beaten so badly that it was difficult for him to walk. Even now, Lord Li Chenyang cannot enjoy the sports that many clan leaders love. His legs have been injured since he was a child. Not because of any accident, but because he sacrificed himself for the emperor.

"And then." King Li Chenyang sighed. "You will blame me for helping you cheat, claiming that you don't need help, but I still gave it to you."

Fa Dongdi laughed. "You said I forced you to help me, but no one believed you."

King Li Chenyang became even more angry after hearing this. He didn't want others to remember the terrible past. He was so stupid back then, thinking that his status as the prime minister's son could get him out of trouble.

“I always get beaten in your position.” Lord Li Chenyang said softly despite all the discussion.

The warmth and joy on Fadongdi's face disappeared. He frowned slightly. "Yes, my father would never lay a hand on me, but he would order his servants to beat you in front of me, and I could feel the pain when you were beaten."

Lord Li Chenyang looked ahead. He didn’t want to see the emperor’s regret, which was of no use and would only remind him of how weak they were when they were children. “Even my father did not forgive the late emperor until his last breath.”

"I don't blame him," Fadongdi muttered. "If my son was beaten just because his friend was of higher status and had immunity, I would be so angry that I would commit the worst crime."

Lord Li Chenyang did not respond. The former emperor was cruel and brutal. He would not order his servants to stop unless blood was drawn.

"I pity you, my friend," sighed the Fardon Emperor. "To this day I know that you cannot ride a horse without wincing in pain. My father's methods have prevented you from doing much except reading and writing."

Mr. Li Chenyang continued to watch the rain fall to the ground.

Fadongdi hoped that the Duke would say something, but the Duke could not find any words to say. "But I broke this tradition, didn't I? Your eldest son has never been beaten instead of my son."

If such a thing happened, King Li Chenyang would definitely curse loudly in the palace.

Emperor Fadong sighed. "Your youngest son will be a great helper to the prince. I am glad that you have raised such a smart boy. Now, your eldest son will also protect the prince."

Lord Li Chenyang frowned. "Li Wenmin wants to be a commander, not a personal guard of Prince Wang Qianghao."

Emperor Fadong frowned when he heard this. His friendly expression turned vicious. He didn’t like that the Duke was against his wishes. Duke Li Chenyang should be thankful that he got such a position.

"Li Wenmin will protect Wang Qianghao with his life." The emperor said seriously.

"It is Li Wenmin's dream to become a commander who will go down in history," Li Chenyang replied. He did not like the way this conversation was going.

"I don't care what his dream is." Fa Dongdi said coldly. "He is a Li people. You shouldn't have dreams. You should have the desire to maintain the safety of the royal family."

Lord Li Chenyang was in a low mood. His blood boiled at the thought of Li Wenmin taking an arrow that was aimed at the prince. He told himself that he would endure all this. It would all be over soon.

"I refuse." King Li Chenyang said.

At this point, the Emperor's mood soured greatly. He was no longer happy about this conversation. He gritted his teeth and thought about what kind of punishment he should give the Duke. This act of disobedience would not be tolerated.

"Bah, you're making me feel bad." Emperor Fadong turned to Duke Qi angrily. "Since we're talking about your child, bring your daughter to see me now."

Lord Li Chenyang's body stiffened. "Your Majesty, why do you want to see her? Because of the bad weather, she has a heat stroke and is now bedridden—"

"Don't play such a stupid trick on me!" Emperor Fadong shouted. "I know your daughter came to the palace to see my second son! Bring her to me now, do you mean she has the guts to disobey me and not show up?!"

Lord Li Chenyang turned to the emperor angrily. "Is it because of what I said?"

"Shut your mouth and bring her to me. The Queen has wanted to see her for a while. After Li Xueyue did something stunt on the Second Prince's servants, she still dared to hide?!"

King Li Chenyang was taken aback. What did Li Xueyue do?

"Your guards bullied one of the second prince's servants. As you know, it is illegal to abuse servants. If you don't bring Li Xueyue to me, I will determine her punishment and announce it in front of the whole court."

King Li Chenyang turned pale when he heard this. If this were the case, Xueyue's reputation would be greatly damaged. He was powerless and could only fulfill the last request of this dying man.

"Okay, Your Majesty, I will summon her to the palace right away." King Li Chenyang said.

"Okay, get out of here, you've ruined my good mood." Emperor Fadong roared. He was angry that King Li Chenyang had become so selfish.

The Wang family has always supported the Li family. The resources and gifts the Li family has received are more abundant than any other family. The least the Li family can do is to repay their kindness.

Li Wenmin was trained to be a soldier. His skills would have been wasted if it weren't for protecting the next ruler of the country, the crown prince Wang Qianghao.

If Li Wenmin is so useless, he might as well fall on the sword himself!

Emperor Fadong was irritated by the stubborn duke. Even as his friend disappeared in the pouring rain, the emperor was still furious. "He has become too bold. He has forgotten who the real king is."
