Reborn Daughter: The Young Lady Wants to Make a Trouble
Chapter 203 Don’t Talk Nonsense
Wang Jing was shocked by Wen Jinkai's confession. He dropped his hands, staggered back, and shook his head in disbelief.
Wang Jing glanced down at his friend, his lips parted in surprise. Wang Jing tried to ignore the pressing reality that he had said too much.
"I don't believe you," Wang Jing said loudly. "You may be the cruelest person I know, but you are not that heartless."
"You want me to play the villain, right?" Wen Jinkai raised his head and said in a low voice.
Wang Jing was surprised at Wen Jinkai's embarrassed look.
"I am just a tool to ensure the safety of the royal family."
"No you're not-"
"Tools don't need emotions or love." Wen Jinkai slowly stood up, staggering, looking haggard. He was no longer the person who walked in here a few minutes ago.
"I've always wanted to know why the Queen took me in." Wen Jinkai smiled sinisterly and said thoughtfully, "The Queen doesn't show favor to anyone, not even her closest friend, my biological mother."
"Jincai, that's enough. You're not in a clear mental state."
"The Queen has a purpose for me. And that is to ensure the safety of her family."
"You are her family." Wang Jing emphasized. "Please, stop talking nonsense. We have already escalated things too much-"
“No, her only home is the one she creates.” Wen Jinkai shook his head. “How foolish I was to seek her acceptance and love. I wanted her to love me unconditionally. The only way she could do that was for me to obey her without question.”
"Kinkai——"
“When I disobeyed her, she took away the only good thing in my life.” Wen Jinkai let out an evil laugh that bounced off the walls of the room.
"Of course, the biggest responsibility lies with me, isn't it?" He patted his chest excitedly. "I believed her lies. I followed her orders and stayed away from my own wife! Like a dog, I followed every damn thing she told me to do!"
Wang Jing was stunned for a moment. He closed his eyes and clenched his fists. He couldn't refute it because it was the truth.
Everyone knows that Wuyi Shuai is just a watchdog of the royal family.
"I'm sorry." Wang Jing frowned and whispered. "I'm sorry that things have to be like this, Jin Kai, I'm really sorry."
"This is not your place to apologize," Wen Jinkai said sharply. "This belongs to the Queen."
"She will admit her mistake," Wang Jing said, her voice full of distress. "All you have to do is talk to her. She will apologize. Mom loves you very, very much, and her concern for you is unfathomable."
"How can a person love their protective tool?"
"No! I admit, she used to think of you like this! But over the years, as she watched you grow into the man you are now, she has loved you infinitely!" Wang Jing shouted. "I knew it, she told me this herself!"
"I-"
"Mom was scared of losing you," Wang Jing admitted. "That's why she did everything she did! You know she's a self-conscious woman who doesn't love anyone except her children. She doesn't even love herself!"
Wen Jinkai said angrily: "I don't need your nonsense."
"No one loved Mother, except her children. Our father neglected her for decades. He loved no one except his concubines. You know what Mother was like. She was jealous of every young, beautiful woman who crossed her path. She was jealous of their futures. They still had youth left, and it wouldn't fade for decades."
"It's not my fault that she wasted her youth chasing after a heartless man," Wen Jinkai said angrily. "It's not our place to replace the love she should have received from her husband."
"You're right, it's not true, but she has no one else but us." Wang Jing pleaded, "Please, you must understand why she did this. Jin Kai, you can't leave her."
"Then why not?"
"She will commit suicide!" Wang Jing wailed. "Don't you know how much your mother loves you? How painful it is for her to think that you, the only child she raised, will leave her every day?!"
He gestured at the luxurious rooms and tea sets. "All my luxuries mean nothing to her if she can't share them with her children! All her sons and daughters are princes and princesses. The Emperor took us away from her when we were born so that we could be raised as royal nannies and governesses!"
He pointed at Wen Jinkai and said, "But you! You are different. She raised you all by herself! Her attachment to you is different from her love for us."
Wang Jing fell to his knees. "So, please," he pleaded, "don't leave Mother. Don't abandon her. If you do, she will never be the same."
Wen Jinkai did not respond. He just opened the door and left, then slammed it shut.
But Wang Jing knew, or at least he hoped he knew, that Wen Jinkai would not betray the hand that raised him. Wen Jinkai would not abandon his only family, because if he did, there would be no one else in the world.
"He's gone at last," the servant whispered. She glanced across the messy floor and sighed.
"The commander cannot speak like that." The Second Prince said. "Even if he is not here."
The servant did not respond. She simply walked over to a chair and plopped down, rocking her feet as she watched the other servants go in and out of the room, trying to clean up the broken cups.
“Little guy,” Wang Jing snorted, “You are a servant, you shouldn’t do such a thing.”
“I don’t care about my current situation,” she muttered, playing with her long hair. “It doesn’t define me.”
"As stubborn and naive as ever," Wang Jing lamented. He leaned back in his chair and grabbed his hair. "It's so frustrating to talk to him. I've known him for so long, but he has no remorse for strangling me."
"It was your fault for letting him do this to you. You could have cried to your mother, you know. She would have hurt anyone who tried to touch her children."
"She would never hurt Wen Jinkai."
"But she'll hurt something he cares about. I'll know."
"Of course," Wang Jing said, and sighed again. He loved his mother, but sometimes, she was immoral and cruel, much like Wen Jinkai. Perhaps, this was why he was so ruthless and so terrible.
"She won't hurt her own children, but she will hurt them indirectly. This is her nature," Wang Jing said.
"You shouldn't make excuses for her anymore. Why do you defend the bad guys?" The servant muttered, picked up a piece of broken porcelain and handed it to another servant beside him.
Originally, the other maids of the Second Prince all disliked her, but when they saw how much the Second Prince valued her, no one dared to stop her.
"Because I always see the good in the bad."
"That's your biggest flaw."
"Or the most redeeming character," Wang Jing muttered.
"You had no part in hurting me." The servant sneered, though he hadn't seen it. "Why do you feel the need to redeem yourself?"
"Because I stood by and watched people get hurt. Mom told me everything. I could have advised her not to hurt—"
"What's past is past. It should stay that way."
"That's not what the Li family thinks."
"I'm leaving now," the servant said, standing up suddenly. "I don't want to get in the way of people cleaning up."
"No, don't leave. I won't mention these things again. Sit down and let's discuss it."
"No, I don't want to."
"Little guy-"
He didn't finish his words. She left too quickly.
The second prince shook his head. "You're still stubborn, aren't you?"
