Li Xueyue glared at Li Chenyang fiercely, meaning: "Look, I told you that you should tell her about the diary."

Li Chenyang shook his head, "Father said no."

She sighed in disappointment, her lips curling slightly. 'It's not fair.'

Li Chenyang nodded in agreement, but he had vowed to remain silent.

“What are you two doing?” Duchess Wang Qixing asked curiously, her eyes jumping from Chen Yang to Xue Yue. They acted as if they could talk without words.

"Nothing." Li Chenyang replied easily. "What should we do, mother? Of course, if we give in to his demands now, he will know that he has the upper hand, and--"

"Well, we do have to honor Xueyue's promise. We always keep our word." Duchess Wang Qixing responded. "But don't worry, Xueyue, I will go too."

"We just give in?" Li Chenyang frowned. "I'll just go to the palace and ask him to return Xueyue's pendant."

"If we make trouble for Xueyue, it will attract the attention of the emperor and the queen. We don't want to give them any reason to summon our Xueyue." Princess Wang Qixing said with a slight shake of her head.

Li Xueyue's eyes widened. She looked at Li Chenyang, hoping that he could understand the problem of entering the palace. She shouldn't hinder King Li Tao.

Li Chenyang nodded secretly. "How about we meet at the restaurant? I'll take Wen Min with me, and then the four of us can go meet Wen Jinkai."

"No need to have a party there." Duchess Wang Qixing chuckled. "I can handle him."

Li Chenyang poked at the pastries on his plate. These were his favorites, but this conversation about Wen Jinkai had ruined his appetite from the beginning. "I just feel uncomfortable thinking about Xueyue being in a closed room with him."

"You make it sound like I wouldn't be in the same room with them. I know he has enough honor not to do anything to Xueyue. After all, he didn't do anything to Minghua."

Seeing the awkward atmosphere in the hall, Duchess Wang Qixing frowned. "What's the matter? You two have been hiding things since we sat down. Is there something you need me to know?" She asked in confusion, her eyes moving from one child to the other.

Li Xueyue moved nervously in her chair, her fingers clenched nervously. She bit her lower lip and suddenly found that the floor in the room was more interesting than this conversation. Wow, how can a piece of wood have such a complicated pattern?

Li Chenyang suddenly felt his appetite return. He put the biscuits into his mouth one by one, chewing deliberately to show his mother that his mouth was already occupied by food and he couldn't speak. He nodded approvingly, enjoying the hard shell of the biscuits, but the soft rice cake inside gave the small pastries just the right chewiness.

"You two are so bad at hiding things from me." Duchess Wang Qixing chuckled, albeit coldly. "So why don't you just reveal the secret you're trying so hard to keep?"

"What secret?" Li Chenyang hurriedly took a sip of tea to wash away all the biscuits he had inhaled in one breath.

Li Xueyue glared at him fiercely, her lips pressed into a thin line. Wasn't this a violation of their compromise? If their mother asked what happened, weren't they obliged to tell her?

“She has the right to know!” Li Xueyue shouted with pointed eyes.

Li Chenyang pretended to be blind and continued eating.

"Excellently?"

Now he concluded that he was both blind and deaf. The cookie he was eating suddenly felt like the best treat in the world. He took another one.

"Chenyang, stop talking nonsense. What secrets are you hiding from me this time?" Duchess Wang Qixing frowned and placed her hands firmly on the table. She would not leave until the truth came out.

Li Chenyang coughed awkwardly, choking on the dry biscuit, and pounded his chest. He took another sip of tea and suddenly felt thirsty. Why could he never lie to his parents? He wanted to complain about their good upbringing. It was always easy to scheme against others, but not against his parents.

"I...uh..." Li Chenyang snorted, hoping that the small sound could distract his attention.

"If you don't tell me, I'll lock up the library." Duchess Wang Qixing shrugged, thinking that threats were the best way to deal with the twins.

Li Chenyang's eyes widened and he turned his head to look at his mother. Now, she had his full attention. He swallowed nervously and took another sip of tea. He watched her fingers tapping the table without rhythm, the speed matching his accelerated heartbeat. He suddenly felt anxious and his palms became clammy.

Click. Nag. Click. Click. Nag. Her nails continued to tap, the sound growing louder.

"Okay." Li Chenyang groaned. "There is a secret that we have been hiding from you." He rushed out in one breath, so fast that no one except himself noticed what he said.

"What?" Duchess Wang Qixing tilted her head in confusion. "Everything I heard was a secret."

Li Chenyang sighed softly. He whispered: "In fact, we have been--"

"You're here. I was just wondering where the whole family is." King Li Chenyang announced loudly, walking into Xueyue's room without hesitation.

Li Chenyang's eyes suddenly fell on his frowning father. Uh oh. The Duke seemed very unhappy, and his smile was too big and unnatural. His eyes were bigger than usual, highlighting his smile that was not happy at all.

"What are you doing gathered in this room?" King Li Chenyang asked his son, glaring at him.

When he received zero response, he turned to his wife. "My dear, I thought you would enjoy having tea and snacks near the garden. It's a nice day with a gentle breeze today, and you would prefer the gazebo in the middle of the pond."

"Hmph!" Duchess Wang Qixing crossed her arms and refused to greet him.

King Li Chenyang sighed softly and decided to let her take it easy. Eventually, she would forgive him. She always did so without any worries. "Chenyang, come with me. There is a plan we must discuss."

Li Chenyang stood up awkwardly, his eyes lingering on his mother. She shook her head firmly and pointed at his chair.

"Chenyang, please sit down. We have something to discuss."

"My plans are more important," Wang Li Chenyang snapped, his patience wearing thin. "Hurry up, Chenyang, we don't have all day, and I don't have time to waste rushing home from get off work."

Li Chenyang's eyes moved from his mother to his father. This was actually like asking a child who his favorite parent was. He looked at Li Xueyue, expecting what she would say.

Li Xueyue looked nervously at the Duke, then at the Duchess. She bent down and whispered to the Duchess, "I'll tell you this secret later."

Duchess Wang Qixing was very happy when she heard Xueyue's words, but she kept a poker face and didn't reveal any information. She said loudly: "Silly girl, if you need to eat more snacks, you can announce it loudly, there is no need to be shy."

She gave a bitter smile and looked at King Li Chenyang's shoulders with relief. She narrowed her eyes at him in confusion, her lips curled up in irritation. How dare he let his child choose between him and her? She hoped he would find that the sofa in his study was more comfortable than the bed!

Duchess Wang Qixing sighed. In an instant, she picked up Xueyue's empty teacup and threw it at the Duke, who easily dodged it by turning his head. He smacked his lips. "Like I said, she's crazy."

"What did you just say—"

"You two are acting like little kids." Li Chenyang roared, "What happened to our parents?!"

The Duke glared at his unyielding wife. She glared back at him and flicked his finger, showing her the ring he had promised her all those years ago. Veins popped out on her forehead and her face flushed.

"You uneducated woman—"

"Let's go." Li Chenyang frowned. "Aren't we going to meet in your study, Dad?!"

"Hmph!" Li Chenyang shook his wrist, and his long sleeves fluttered behind him. "Let's go to the study now." He stomped his feet and walked out of the room.

“At last, I thought he would never leave!” Duchess Wang Qixing declared loudly.

Before the fight started, Li Chenyang had already walked out the door and pushed his father towards the study.
