Reborn Daughter: The Young Lady Wants to Make a Trouble
Chapter 163 So exciting
After Lord Li Chenyang left, Duchess Wang Qixing was still glaring at the door.
"Annoying bastard." She muttered quietly, forgetting that she was in front of Xue Yue. She hadn't called him by that name for a while.
When she raised her chin, she was surprised to see Xueyue still sitting there, staring out the window, providing her with some much needed space.
Duchess Wang Qixing responded with a warm smile. "You said you would tell me their secrets?"
Li Xueyue turned her attention back to Duchess Wang Qixing. She nodded slowly and began to speak. "It's about your late daughter."
Duchess Wang Qixing's smile faded, and her eyes dimmed. She looked down at her hands, then looked up at Xueyue. "It's okay, you can mention her name, I'm a little used to it."
"Okay then." Li Xueyue cleared her throat, "Did you know Minghua keeps a diary?"
Duchess Wang Qixing shook her head slightly. "No, I didn't."
"Well... yes, I found it when I was wandering aimlessly and had no idea that I had entered a forbidden area." Li Xueyue admitted.
"I didn't mean to read it, but curiosity got the better of me." She fiddled aimlessly with her sleeve, hoping to distract herself.
"I understand." Duchess Wang Qixing was not happy about Xueyue reading Minghua's diary, but what could she say? What happened had already happened. It was not that the Duchess herself did not want to read the diary - she did want to read it.
“There are a lot of shocking entries describing how she felt,” Li Xueyue explained, stroking her rolled-up sleeves soothingly.
"Where is the diary?"
"I didn't know who to give it to, so I gave it to Brother Chen first, because I usually confide in him," Li Xueyue admitted, her voice wary and hesitant at the Duchess's reaction.
Duchess Wang Qixing nodded in understanding. She understood why Chenyang was a wise choice when Xueyue needed someone to talk to. He was calmer when it came to Minghua, while Wenmin would get angry easily when Minghua was mentioned. After all, Li Wenmin was the eldest of the siblings, and he had the responsibility to keep them safe.
Duchess Wang Chi-sing snorted. "I guess it somehow ended up in the hands of the irritable man in your bedroom. That would certainly explain his frustration that night, smashing all the hand-picked house decorations."
She suddenly rolled her eyes and snorted. "That man was so bold. He asked me to leave my son's room, then stormed out and gave zero answers to any questions I asked him."
Li Xueyue chose not to comment on the way the Duchess mentioned Duke Li Chenyang.
"I can't believe how frayed his nerves are." She frowned. "Who does he think he is? What right does he have to hide my daughter's diary? He must think it's for my own good. Ugh!"
Li Xueyue sat there quietly while Duchess Wang Qixing continued to chat.
"The last time he thought something was good for any female in this house was when he locked it away," she paused, "-never mind. It's over now and I shouldn't dwell on it, but he needs to change that habit of his."
Li Xueyue nodded, not because she agreed, but to show that she was still listening.
"Okay." Duchess Wang Qixing waved her hand and said, "Where is the diary now?"
"I don't know." Li Xueyue supported her chin with her fingers and tilted her head, wondering who would get the diary.
"I gave it to Brother Chen, but I think Brother Wen also read its contents. It may have been given by my father, but I'm not sure."
Duchess Wang Chi-sing let out a small groan. "I just hope it's not that bad-tempered man, but it's very possible. I'll have one of the twins steal it back from him."
Li Xueyue opened her mouth and closed it again. Originally, she wanted to say, why not reconcile? But this was their marriage problem, and she had no experience to make such a stupid suggestion.
The next day, everything was just as gloomy as the day before. At least everyone got together for a meal, but even so, it was awkward as hell. The only sounds were the quiet clatter of chopsticks and passive-aggressive glances that passed by Duke Li Chenyang and Duchess Wang Qixing and looked at each other.
After breakfast, everyone went their separate ways.
Li Chenyang went back to his room to sort out the materials for the day, the princess left to tidy up her appearance, and the prince disappeared into his private study as usual. Li Xueyue returned to her room and changed into appropriate clothes for going out. Li Wenmin was the only one who didn't have any housework to do. He was going to go back to his room, but he thought it would be more fun to annoy Li Xueyue.
So Li Wenmin went to the door of her room.
"I still can't believe you would do this." Li Wenmin frowned and stood on the door frame watching.
The maids spent a great deal of time making her look beautiful, and if there was any color that would best set off her soft features, it was the color of spring.
Half of her hair was down, the other half was gathered and tied into a bun at the back of her head. She wore a pale pink Hanfu dress, the silk of which was scattered with hand-painted cherry blossom petals.
Her window was thrown open, and strong sunlight shone in, shining on the person sitting there. She had her eyes closed, and the maids were putting the finishing touches on her.
"Mom shouldn't have accepted such an invitation. Even if it's in a restaurant, it's considered to have met his request." Li Wenmin muttered, and finally walked into his room. He gently pushed the maids aside and began to remove the hairpins on their heads.
The maids suddenly perked up and looked at each other. What was wrong with her hair accessories?
"You're not dressed for him," Li Wenmin muttered, placing the hairpins he had taken out on the tray. He looked over her shoulder, scanning the various accessories in front of him. Their mother must have liked to dress her up beautifully. The whole tray could buy a town or city.
"Oh, perfect." Li Wenmin pondered, bending down and picking up a simple hairpin, a coal-colored hairpin, which was made of wood but smooth and shiny.
"I didn't expect you would be interested in lions. This hairpin is more manly than I thought." He turned the hairpin and watched the silver-rimmed roaring lion picking up the sunlight coming through the window.
"But it's a much better idea for him than dressing up like a peony." He shrugged and inserted the hairpin between the small rose buns.
Li Xueyue bit her lower lip. She almost let it slip that the hairpin belonged to Yu Zhen, not hers. Her eyes fell on the pendant wrapped in a handkerchief on the dressing table.
"It wasn't my decision to dress like this. Besides, I think these are cherry blossom petals, not peony petals..."
"I know," Li Wenmin whispered, reaching up to remove the heavy earrings that weighed him down. "Oh, that's good," he said, holding up the tiny string of pearls.
"But they're too fancy for him." Li Wenmin snorted and opened her drawer to look for simpler earrings. To his surprise, one of her drawers was locked.
"What's in there?" he asked, reaching towards another drawer on her other side.
Li Xueyue shook her head. "Just some secret items."
Li Wenmin hummed in response. "Too exciting." He said expressionlessly, "Ahaha!"
His fingers flicked through the multiple pairs of earrings easily until his eyes landed on a simple dangling earring, featuring just a petal and leaf.
He put it in her ear and smiled at her simple and elegant appearance.
"Much better now." He nodded, very satisfied with his look.
Li Xueyue chuckled and stood up.
"Well, let me twirl for a bit," he pouted, "It's the least you can do to thank me for all my hard work."
“All you did was take out the hairpins and the earrings and put them back,” she mused.
Still, she spun for him, her skirt flying up.
Li Wenmin was amazed at her appearance. She was like a petal dancing in the wind, gently and slowly falling to the ground, turning the plain earth into a pink whirlwind.
