Reborn Daughter: The Young Lady Wants to Make a Trouble

Chapter 159 You Won’t Starve Me to Death

Suddenly, Li Xueyue spoke again: "Can I go to the palace?" she asked, knowing that she couldn't leave home without them knowing.

The twins reacted immediately and at the same time.

"No." Li Wenmin had no expression on his face.

"Absolutely not." Li Chenyang asserted.

Li Xueyue didn't even have to ask why. She sighed, "But I have something to give—"

"The pendant, right?" Li Wenmin raised his eyebrows and said, "I told you that you should give it back to him when you have the chance."

"Did you keep it?" Li Chenyang asked. "I forgot about that."

Li Xueyue nodded. "I want to give it back to him, but uh, I don't want to ask any of you to do that because I know how much you dislike him."

"Xiaoyue." Li Wenmin laughed. "We don't hate him."

"Oh, I thought you did—"

"We hate him," Li Wenmin concluded, patting her cheek as she blinked in confusion. "Give us the pendant now and we'll break it - no, I mean we'll give it back to him."

"You can't just destroy the pendant like this!" Li Xueyue was angry. "Then I will never give it to you."

"This is a joke." Li Wenmin smiled awkwardly and glared at Li Chenyang. "How come you, my damn brother, never give me any support?!"

Li Chenyang raised his eyebrows. "We broke his pendant, why do you care? Have you forgotten, Xueyue? He used this against you in the martial arts tournament and almost ruined your reputation."

Li Xueyue shook her head. "The right thing to do is to return it in one piece. He gave it to me to keep me safe—"

“Can it really guarantee your safety?” Li Chenyang gritted his teeth, folded his arms and walked away, his tone gloomy and angry. He didn’t like that she suddenly became so friendly. Wen Jinkai didn’t deserve their kindness.

"No, but I'm sure—"

"Xiaoyue, I hope you know that you are on his side now." Li Wenmin frowned, his attitude similar to his brother's. "Now, where is the pendant?"

Li Xueyue looked at the twins nervously, her eyes alert for what they would do. She fiddled with her fingers and dragged her feet. "I don't know about this..."

"Xiaoyue, he is not usually in the palace, but mainly in the fields training his men." Li Wenmin said. "I can return the pendant to him."

"Fragments?" she asked hesitantly, her voice timid and small. Although she disliked Wen Jinkai very much, she didn't want to destroy the pendant. It looked expensive and had great authority.

Li Xueyue didn't even understand where her stubbornness came from. She hated what he had done to her and Li Minghua, but she still kept the pendant politely.

Li Chenyang frowned, his face scrunched up like his father's. "Xueyue," he warned. "What are you doing?"

"I just-"

"What's going on here?" a voice asked from behind him.

The brother and sister looked back and saw that Duchess Wang Qixing was standing behind them with her arms folded. She seemed unhappy about something, but she obviously would not tell her children.

Li Xueyue's face suddenly lit up. "Mom, you're awake."

The corners of Duchess Wang Qixing's mouth twitched. "Yes, dear, I am. Have you had breakfast?"

"Not as much as I would have done if you were here."

The Duchess finally smiled. "You're always a sweet talker, aren't you?" She pondered, moving closer to them. "What are you discussing so early in the morning?"

"Xiaoyue is so stubborn." Li Wenmin pouted and immediately walked to his mother's side. "She thinks we should return Wen Jinkai's pendant intact, while I want to send it back in pieces."

Duchess Wang Qixing gasped at his behavior. "You can't break a gift and then return it in a mess. That's disrespectful."

Li Chenyang frowned. "So what if I'm being rude? Why should I care about his feelings?"

"Chen Yang." Duchess Wang Qixing said sternly. "This pendant is given to the child when he is born. It is a gift from his parents. It is something they have treasured for a long time. You can't destroy it out of resentment. Think about what impact this will have on his parents?"

Li Wenmin frowned. "His parents didn't care about him! Besides, he has Xiaoyue's pendant!"

Duchess Wang Qixing shook her head firmly. "His parents may not like him, but I suspect that this pendant was given to him by the Queen. We can't offend her like this."

Li Chenyang opened his mouth and was about to refute, but he paused. Damn it! He almost leaked the contents of the diary on the spot - about the queen's bullying.

Finally, he decided, “So what should we do?”

"We will go to see him politely," said Duchess Wang Qixing. "We will exchange the pendant. His can get it back, and Xueyue can get it back too."

Li Wenmin frowned. He had little confidence in the commander. “How do we know he will carry it with him?”

"If he had any honor at all, he would."

Li Wenmin sneered. "Then I guess we'll never see Xiaoyue's pendant again."

“You talk back too much.” Duchess Wang Qixing sighed and shook her head. “Have some faith in your commander.”

Li Chenyang's frown deepened. He was angry at the initial silence yesterday. He should show the diary to his mother. If she read it, she would not be as friendly as she is now, but he promised his father that he would not say a word about it.

"We must have the upper hand in terms of attendance numbers, and he must visit the estate," Duchess Wang Qixing ordered.

“I agree.” Li Wenmin nodded: “We shouldn’t see him in the palace.”

Li Chenyang shook his head. "However, if Wen Jinkai often appears next to Xueyue, it would be very suspicious. If he suddenly comes to our manor, rumors will fly everywhere."

Duchess Wang Qixing snorted in response. He had a point. First, Yu Zhen went to see Xueyue, and now it's Wen Jinkai? Gossipy women in the upper class would be ruthless.

Her lips curled up in disgust. These women had too much free time. It was one of the main reasons she refused to associate with them unless necessary, like going out in public.

After a few seconds, she finally spoke again. "Maybe we don't need to meet him at all. I will write him a letter and ask him to send the pendant back."

Li Wenmin raised an eyebrow and looked at her mother in disbelief. "Do you really think he will return it? He knows what it means to get that pendant back. I can assure you that Wen Jinkai is shameless enough to keep it."

"He will ask to see her," Li Chenyang added with a frustrated sigh.

"Well." Li Xueyue said, "Who said he would bring the pendant to the meeting?"

Li Wenmin groaned. "Really."

Duchess Wang Qixing frowned slightly. "Wen Jinkai is the commander of the Five Counties. He certainly has enough integrity and honor not to--" She paused, already knowing the answer.

Duchess Wang Qixing shook her head. "We should not hesitate any longer. Let's deal with the meeting invitation first. Xueyue doesn't have to be present, but I won't talk about this part. The meeting is held in the palace. If anything happens, I still have jurisdiction. It will happen, although I doubt it will happen."

The twins thought about her words for a moment before nodding in agreement.

"Sounds like a solid plan to me." Li Wenmin shrugged.

"I agree." Li Chenyang added.

"Okay, I'll start writing the letter now. You should also leave. It's getting late." Duchess Wang Qixing said.

"Wait." Li Xueyue turned to the Duchess and said, "Shouldn't you have breakfast first? The letter can wait."

Duchess Wang Qixing paused, her eyes widening a little. Finally, the corners of her lips lifted up, revealing a warm smile. "I should." She chuckled. "Come with me, I'll ask the chef to prepare some snacks."

Li Wenmin suddenly perked up, his eyes sparkling. "Oh, I want some snacks too!"

Li Chenyang frowned. "You have soldiers to train."

"They can wait!" Li Wenmin turned to his mother and shouted. His eyes were wide and his lower lip was sticking out, looking pitiful. "You will feed me, right, Mom? You won't let me die of hunger, right?"

Duchess Wang Qixing chuckled and shook her head in amusement. "You make it sound like I'm starving you to punish you, my little glutton."

"Well, I did eat less this morning." Li Wenmin pretended to sniffle like a poor child.

"Forget it." Li Chenyang rolled his eyes and sneered. "You just missed a bowl of rice."

"Yeah, you heard mom, I didn't eat enough, so now I'm hungry... woohoo..." He trailed off and wiped away his fake tears.

Duchess Wang Qixing looked at her silly son and couldn't help laughing. "What should we do with you?" She sighed and held his and Xueyue's hands. "Let's go feed my two little pigs."

Li Chenyang laughed at the nickname. "I told you they were piglets."

Li Wenmin chose to ignore his brothers, and as they walked past him, Li Xueyue deliberately stepped on Chen Yang's foot.

"It doesn't hurt at all." Li Chenyang sneered, frowned and took a step forward.

Li Wenmin and Xueyue exchanged a knowing look, and Xueyue laughed at his answer.

"Of course, it doesn't hurt." She snickered.
