After finishing the most uncomfortable breakfast in Li Xueyue's life, everyone dispersed. No one spoke during the whole meal, and they didn't want to talk, but Xueyue did speak. She tried to chat, hoping to cheer up the dull mood, but no one could match her enthusiasm.

After dinner, everyone began to disperse from the restaurant. The Duke disappeared into the hall, probably heading for the main entrance. Eunuch Li Chenyang went to work earlier than usual, which was rare. If he had free time in the morning, he always spent it with the Duchess.

The twins and Li Xueyue gathered in the corridor near the restaurant.

"What happened?" Li Xueyue turned to the twins who looked reluctant and asked.

Li Wenmin tried to smile. "Don't worry, Xiaoyue." He patted her cheek and adjusted his belt, where a sword hung.

"Didn't the Duke and the Duchess have a quarrel?" Li Xueyue insisted.

Li Chenyang frowned slightly. "Yes. They did."

"what?"

“This is a matter for adults,” Li Wenmin replied. “We don’t want you to feel stressed about any of our problems.”

"but-"

"Xiaoyue, what are your plans for today?" Li Wenmin interrupted, deliberately changing the subject.

"Has Mom read the diary? Brother Wen, have you read it?" Li Xueyue asked again, this time with a more serious tone. She thought that if she wasn't so direct and firm, he wouldn't take her seriously.

"I've told you, Xiaoyue, you shouldn't worry about these little things." Li Wenmin frowned and said to her with his lips turned down.

Li Xueyue crossed her arms defiantly, refusing to accept his words.

"Xiaoyue——"

"Just tell her the truth." Li Chenyang muttered. "She will know about this eventually."

Li Wenmin glared at his brother fiercely. "I thought we were sure she wouldn't know what happened last night."

"Alas, what a pity. I didn't agree yesterday." Li Chenyang turned his head to look at Xueyue and said through gritted teeth. "Mother didn't know about the diary, but she almost knew it. Yesterday, she wanted to know what made Father so angry. He refused to tell her anything. She was frustrated with the mess he caused, and his silence and her curiosity got the better of her."

Li Wenmin frowned. "Are you crazy?" He hissed at Chen Yang, "Why did you tell Xueyue this? You'll put pressure on her!"

"Well, I'm standing right here—"

"She has the right to know!" Li Chenyang roared, "She is not a child anymore. If she is kept in the dark forever, she will become ignorant!"

"I hope she can live an easy life without these worries!" Li Wenmin narrowed his eyes. "Do you really want to burden her with this fact?!"

Li Chenyang frowned. "Do you think she is burdened?"

The two immediately looked at Xueyue, who opened her eyes wide, full of surprise. "Well, just tell me, I won't feel pressured..."

"Look!" Li Chenyang rolled his eyes and snorted coldly.

"But I am very grateful, Brother Wen, thank you for thinking about me." Li Xueyue quickly grabbed his hand and said. She hoped that he would not be angry because of Li Chenyang's words.

Li Wenmin frowned and stared at his twin in anger. Then he looked down at her little hand holding his. He sighed, took back one hand and patted her cheek.

"I just want you to live a worry-free life."

"I know," she said, understandingly, smiling softly at him.

His eyes softened. "But yes, Mother and Father had a terrible argument. She didn't like us keeping the secret from her, but we had no choice. We were afraid of what would happen if she found out about the contents of the diary."

Li Chenyang sighed softly and turned to face the courtyard. He looked up at the sky, which was covered with dark clouds and no sunshine. "Anything related to Minghua will trigger her. The person most affected by the Minghua incident is our mother."

Li Wenmin nodded. “That’s why we have to keep everything secret. If we don’t, Mother might become depressed again.”

Li Chenyang continued to observe the sky. Although it was early in the morning, the weather was still gloomy. Even the birds did not sing. "Xueyue, you will keep this secret, okay?"

The twins stared at her, their eyes sharp and unforgiving.

Li Xueyue was conflicted and didn't know what to do. On the one hand, she agreed with Li Wenmin and didn't want the Duchess to worry about such a thing. But on the other hand, it didn't feel right to keep the Duchess in the dark.

"It's not fair to treat her like this," Li Xueyue said finally. "Even if this is a trigger for her, she has the right to know."

Li Wenmin frowned. "We are doing what is best for her."

“How do you know what’s best for her?” She countered. “Maybe she’s already recovered from what happened. The second and final stage of grief is depression. She seems to have passed that stage and is left with the final stage of grief, which is acceptance.”

Li Wenmin groaned. She had a point. "Well, anyway, we can't tell her. Not yet."

"Why not?" She continued walking, pulling her hands back and crossing her arms. She refused to acknowledge the question of informing her mother.

"Because, Xiaoyue, Dad doesn't allow us to tell her." Li Wenmin gently pushed his brother's shoulder and said. "I need some support." He whispered, but Xueyue still heard his voice.

"It was wrong to hide this from my mother."

"This is the best thing for her." Li Chenyang said calmly, refusing to give in. "Don't tell her anything--"

"Do not."

"Xiaoyue!" Li Wenmin was furious, his eyes burning. He was not used to her disobedience. "You can't."

"You're on your father's side. Both of you." Li Xueyue frowned slightly. "Is that fair to her?"

"We are doing what is best for her!" Li Chenyang snorted.

"I don't agree with this." Li Xueyue frowned.

“We’re not asking you to lie to her or anything,” Li Wenmin shouted, “Just keep it a secret for now.”

"Can we compromise?" she asked.

"It's wonderful." Li Chenyang sighed, knowing that she was too stubborn to back down. "What do you want?"

"If she doesn't ask me, I won't tell her anything, but if she asks me, I'll tell her everything."

Li Wenmin scratched the back of his head and thought about it. After a few seconds of silence, he said helplessly: "Okay, let's do it this way."

Li Xueyue looked at Li Chenyang, who nodded. "Sounds good."

"Great!" she laughed, glad they had finally come to a conclusion.

Li Wenmin snorted and said to himself. Li Chenyang reserved his opinion and thought it was better than deceiving his mother.
