Reborn Daughter: The Young Lady Wants to Make a Trouble

a year and a half ago.
"Well, I can't say it's a surprise." Li Chenyang sighed and greeted Wen Jinkai into the hallway. The two sat on the sofa opposite each other and served strong tea.
"At least you can pretend to be happy to see me." Wen Jinkai took a sip of tea and muttered. Black oolong, bitter and strong, was one of his favorites - at least Chen Yang had not forgotten his preference for tea, even if it was a habit.
"You know I'd never be happy to see you."
Wen Jinkai's stiff expression softened a little. "You know, don't you?"
“Depends on what you’re talking about.”
"I've always wondered, if it wasn't for that lady's insistence, would you have saved me? Or would you have left me there to rot and die?"
Li Chenyang did not respond. He just glanced at Wen Jinkai's shoulder, and saw nothing but his close friend.
Wen Jinkai answered with his silence. "Why didn't you save me?"
"What did you do to Minghua in the palace?"
Wen Jinkai's face turned serious. "I would never hurt her, you know."
Li Chenyang took a sip of tea and peeked at the other person over the edge of the cup. "I won't save you. I will let you die and become fertilizer for the grass."
Wen Jinkai smiled humorlessly. "It hurts, my friend."
Li Chenyang's jaw tightened, his eyes full of disgust. "If Minghua gets into trouble, are we still friends?"
Wen Jinkai sighed heavily. "How many times do I have to say it? I will never hurt her."
"Why do you keep repeating this? Unless, you feel guilty, or you did hurt her, just not physically."
"When did you ever care about her? You looked down on her and called her a spoiled brat who was so naive and ignorant."
Li Chenyang threw the teacup to Wen Jinkai, with fire in his eyes.
Wen Jinkai tilted his head to one side easily, and the teacup flew over his neck. "You missed it."
"Shut up." Li Chenyang curled his lips and shouted in a low voice. "Get out of my house."
"Since you're clearly incapable of having a normal conversation with me, bring your father here."
"It seems like he really wants to meet someone like you." Li Chenyang said with his blood boiling. He curled his fingers together.
"We were good friends," Wen Jinkai whispered, "It's a pity that you let a woman get in the way."
"She's my sister!"
"She is my lover," Wen Jinkai jumped up from his chair excitedly. "I have done my best to ensure her safety in the palace!"
"You protected her safety?!" Li Chenyang roared.
"Yes, she was fed and cared for—"
"Then explain her heartbreak! Explain why she came back so thin and horrible, as if the whole world had wronged her! Explain why her eyes were red from her tears! Whatever you thought you did to keep her safe, you obviously failed."
Wen Jinkai closed his eyes tightly, banishing the image from his mind. Her bright smile, her innocent laughter, the twinkle in her eyes when she looked up at him. He wanted to forget it all. The memories they shared, her trust in him, the hope for their future. He didn't want to remember it.
"I'm not here to argue."
"Then why did you come here?" Li Chenyang shouted
"I want to meet the girl who saved my life."
Li Chenyang sneered in disbelief. "Do you hear your own voice? After what you did to my sister, do you think I would let you corrupt another one?"
"I just wanted to thank her, that's all."
"Stay away from Xueyue."
"Is that her name?"
"You bastard--" Li Chenyang rushed towards Wen Jinkai before he finished his words, and the door suddenly opened.
"What the hell is going on?!" Lord Li Chenyang exclaimed and walked into the room, only to see his son being pushed to the ground by Commander Wen Jinkai, who had his hands on his collar.
"Stay away from her, you hear me?" Li Chenyang gritted his teeth and his hands trembled with anger. "This is a warning."
However, Wen Jinkai was not worried. "Let me go. You are lucky we are friends. Just for touching me, I can cut your hand off-"
Li Chenyang punched him.
Wen Jinkai could have easily dodged it, but he didn't. Wen Jinkai took the punch because he knew it was the least he could do after what happened to Li Minghua.
"Chenyang!" King Li Chenyang glared at his son and rushed to his son, pulling him down. "What do you mean? Negotiations are always done with words, not fists."
Li Chenyang ignored his father and reached over the Duke's sturdy body to grab Wen Jinkai, but was pulled back. "Stay away from her, do you hear me?!"
Wen Jinkai stood up, his lip was cracked and bleeding, but he didn't care. He straightened his collar and clothes without blinking. "I do what I want."
"You bastard!"
"Li Chenyang, that's enough!" King Li Chenyang roared, pushing his son back onto the couch. "I didn't raise you to let your emotions get the better of you." He sighed and pinched his brow.
Turning to Wen Jinkai, he frowned. "Wen Jinkai, I think it's time for you to leave."
Wen Jinkai rolled his eyes at Li Chenyang and stormed out of the room. Although he was angry, he had enough respect not to close the door behind him.
"What a disappointment." Wen Jinkai muttered to himself, roughly wiping the blood from his lips. He took a deep breath and tried to calm his anger, but it didn't work. He wanted to run back to the room and beat Li Chenyang to death.
Wen Jinkai sighed. "Damn it," he complained as he walked towards the corridor.
Suddenly, his ears perked up. The air rang with the sound of bell-like laughter, full of life and joy, carefree and sweet. Unconsciously, he began to walk away from the gate of the Lee Mansion and in the direction of the unsuspecting sound. Mesmerized by the angelic voice, he could do nothing but keep walking until he found himself near a stable. He hid behind a tree and watched a young lady interacting with a horse.
"You're so spoiled." She giggled as the horse snorted, urging her for more food.
Wen Jinkai took a breath. He hadn't heard such a comforting and lovely voice for a long time. Her laughter was as sweet as honey, reminding him of Li Minghua who loved to laugh at silly things.
"Okay, okay, just one more and that's it." She tried to sound stern and held up a finger to the horse.
Wen Jinkai watched from a distance, squinting at her face, her smile, everything about her. She was beautiful. In a way that words could not describe and the eyes could not look away from. From the curl of her rosy lips to the crinkle of her amused eyes, she was a sight to behold.
"That's it, nothing more." She held out her empty palm to the horse, who snorted and stamped the ground angrily, unable to wipe the smile off his face.
"Tomorrow, if you're good, I'll bring you some more." She patted the horse's head and turned around.
Wen Jinkai immediately hid behind a tree and turned to face the other side when she passed by, completely unaware that maybe, just maybe... she was the reason why he finally left Li Minghua.
