Reborn Daughter: The Young Lady Wants to Make a Trouble
Chapter 132 Cruelty
Yu Zhen carefully brushed the hair away from her face, a wicked smile on his lips. His facial features were sharp and ferocious, and even more fascinating when seen up close.
Li Xueyue wrote down every little thing about him, as if she was afraid that he would just be a fleeting moment in her youth, someone she shouldn't have but desperately wanted.
"You've let your guard down again." His minty breath brushed against her lips, cool and calming.
"Just because I trust you."
Yu Zhen's lips curled up into a faint smile, and his stiff eyes softened. "You shouldn't believe me."
"why not?"
"I am cruel."
He touched her face tenderly, but it showed otherwise. He touched her like she was glass, something fragile and breakable. His calloused fingers traced from her cheekbone to her chin, the touch leaving a lingering sensation. She trembled, her heart pounding out of her chest. Her body reacted in ways she couldn't understand.
"to whom?"
"everyone."
"It doesn't look like it. At least not to me."
Yu Zhen's hand paused. Li Xueyue wished she hadn't said that. She missed his teasing fingers, the feather-soft caress on her face.
"Only because you haven't done anything to irritate me."
What could provoke his anger? What made him tick? What would he do to her if she angered him? All kinds of questions emerged in her mind.
When Li Xueyue put her lower lip into her mouth, his eyes dropped suddenly, and then returned to her face. He clenched his teeth and his fingers gripped the grass tightly.
"Will you hurt me if I do this?" she asked.
His answer made my heart race. "Never."
Even if he tried, he would never hurt her.
Li Xueyue believed him. Not because he had never hurt her before, but because she trusted her intuition.
"once?"
Yu Zhen chuckled, and her heart was tickled. "What do you think, Sunshine?"
She finally smiled, albeit a small and timid one. "Then what should I be afraid of?"
Yu Zhen looked at her carefully, wishing he could remember this daydream for the rest of his life. He couldn't have her. She was too perfect for him to destroy. He wasn't cliché enough to think he was unworthy of her, but cliché enough to believe he was incapable of loving her properly. She deserved everything in the world, deserved unparalleled love; she deserved to be possessed. Uninterrupted, smooth sailing.
"Everything," he said finally, turning away from her. "You have everything to be afraid of."
Li Xueyue squinted her eyes and covered half of her eyes, blocking the sunlight shining on her. Seeing her expression, Yu Zhen stopped in front of her, and his tall body blocked all her discomfort.
"Are you going to continue lying there?" Yu Zhen put his hands at his sides, thinking. He wanted to help her, but he knew she would stand up on her own.
Li Xueyue rolled her eyes, stood up, and brushed off the leaves stuck to her body. "You could have helped."
"Will you accept it?"
Li Xueyue tried hard not to laugh. He knew her too well. After finishing her clothes, she started to tidy up her hair, which had probably turned into a bird's nest.
"The scenery there is beautiful." Yu Zhen chuckled and reached out to pull out the pale jade hairpin from her hair. In an instant, a braid in her bun came untied. He seemed to have no apology for his actions, spinning it effortlessly with his fingers.
"What are you? A hairpin collector?" Li Xueyue snorted, stretched out her hand, and silently asked for it to be taken back.
"Let me help you." Yu Zhen said thoughtfully. He pinned her jade hairpin in his hair.
Li Xueyue saw his movements and frowned in confusion. Finally, he placed a hairpin into her outstretched palm, but it did not belong to her. She was surprised to find that the ebony hairpin in her hand was a piece of stained ash wood, bent into the outline of a roaring lion inlaid with silver.
"This is…?"
Yu Zhen responded by picking up a hairpin. He walked closer to her until their chests touched. She found it interesting that she didn't feel uncomfortable with their proximity. He put her unbraided hair back into a bun and used a hairpin to hold everything in place.
"Why didn't you wear the things I bought for you?" Yu Zhen asked her in a low voice. She quickly raised her head and saw his slightly raised lower lip, while he was sulking and unable to express his dissatisfaction properly with words.
"Where did you learn to do hair?" She changed the subject, touching her hair and realizing that there was nothing wrong with it now.
"I didn't." Yu Zhen frowned and replied. What's so difficult about twisting a strand of hair and rolling it into a bun?
“Isn’t this experience?”
Li Xueyue felt like a thorn had pierced deep into her heart, and the pain spread throughout her chest. Suddenly, she became angry at the thought of him doing another woman's hair. What was going on with her irritable mood? She had rarely felt this way before.
“No. Why would it be like this?” Yu Zhen hid a smile on his face. Was she jealous of something that would never happen?
"What other reasons can there be for this?" Li Xueyue retorted, crossing her arms stubbornly. Her anger gradually subsided, but she was unwilling to tell him her thoughts.
"Jealousy, maybe?" he teased, grabbing her hands and uncrossing her arms.
? As if." She snorted and rolled her eyes as he stared at her suspiciously.
"It doesn't look like it," he retorted, squeezing her hand. She didn't answer, but tilted her chin to the side in a haughty manner.
Yu Zhen wondered if she knew how easy it was to tease her. When her reaction revealed his playful side, he couldn't help himself. When she let her guard down, he easily pulled her to him, his nose brushing against hers.
"Don't worry, Sunshine." He let go of her hand and chose to put an arm around her waist. One of his hands slowly moved up and rested on her back, closing the distance between them.
"You're the only woman I cherish like this, silly girl," he assured, pressing a small kiss to the tip of her nose.
Her heart leaped again, and a faint blush spread across her cheeks. She wondered if he could hear her pounding heart. If she knew, his hammering was louder than hers…
