A long silence fell between the two. The only noise was the rustling of leaves and the rapid beating of two hearts.

They tried to speak several times but always came out as awkward grunts or their mouths opened and closed.

Finally, after what felt like forever, Yu Zhen cleared his throat. "You'll catch a cold if you stay out too long."

“Correct.” Li Xueyue nodded awkwardly. The sun was setting behind him, casting an orange hue on their figures.

Yu Zhen gave her a gentle smile and nodded in understanding. "Good night, Sunshine." He rode away, and just as Xiao Lizi and Xue Yue passed by, she spoke.

"Will we meet again?"

Yu Zhen stopped his horse until they were side by side, but he was facing the path outside Li's mansion, while she was facing the entrance to Li's mansion.

"Why are you praying so hard that you'll never see me again?" Yu Zhen teased with a frown.

Li Xueyue felt her cheeks flush. "I want to see if my prayers will be heard."

Yu Zhen burst into laughter, and scared Xiao Lizi so much that he snorted and stomped to the ground.

Li Xueyue stole a glance at him and discovered something new about him. When he smiled, his eyes were crescent-shaped. He didn't have deep smile lines, but she hoped he would have such a smile around her.

"I regret to inform you, but your prayers have been ignored." With that, he rode off, leaving her shocked and amused by his reaction.

Li Xueyue turned back suddenly and saw Xiao Lizi disappearing in the distance. No wonder he arrived at her house before her even though he started late. Xiao Lizi's speed was faster than the Black Moon, which was an invisible shadow that whizzed past someone.

"Competition." Li Xueyue patted Heiyue's mane thoughtfully. He snorted in disbelief.

"Let's brush your teeth and feed you, buddy," she said. Black Moon responded and led the two towards the vast back fields of the estate. Once they reached the stables, she handed him over to the stable boy.

"It's almost six weeks now, the horseshoes must be adjusted properly," Li Xueyue instructed as they approached where Heiyue normally stored her food.

"Got it, little miss." The stable boy bowed his head.

Li Xueyue searched around and found his favorite food, and threw it in Heiyue's direction. He caught it with his mouth and chewed it happily.

"See you later, Heiyue." Li Xueyue nodded to her horse, patted it hard, and then disappeared into the house.

By the time she got to her room, she was exhausted. She collapsed onto one of the couches in her room, slumped over. She covered her eyes with an arm and sighed tiredly. It had been a long day, and it wasn't over yet.

She had only rested for five minutes when the door to the room was slammed open. She cursed inwardly. Poor thing. How many times had it been pushed open so roughly? She was surprised that the door hadn't cracked yet!

"Xiaoyue, Xiaoyue!" Li Wenmin barked and walked into her room as energetically as a puppy. "There are so many gifts in the hallway! One of the maids said they were all for you. Who sent them?"

He closed the door, leaving the servants and guards outside.

When he saw her arms draped over her face, he thought she was asleep. "Xiaoyue, are you asleep?" he asked suspiciously, standing on tiptoes to look at her motionless figure on the sofa.

Seeing that she didn't react, a sly smile appeared on his face. It was time for her to experience the prank of the old Li family: face painting during nap time!

Li Chenyang keeps getting cheated because he loves to sleep. This is Li Wenmin's way of getting back at his brother for all his comments about food.

Li Wenmin quietly walked to her desk and saw a piece of parchment already laid out. When he saw the words "Destruction Plan", his brows stood up.

Whose ruins? He picked up the parchment, and the sound of crumpling echoed in the room. His whole body tensed up, and he turned around just in time to see Li Xueyue sitting up.

"Brother Wen? What are you doing?"

Li Wenmin turned around and held up the parchment. "What is this?"

Li Xueyue's eyes widened. Did she really leave it on the table? Normally, she would burn the paper after using it, otherwise it would be dangerous.

"It's no big deal, Brother Wen." Li Xueyue got down from the sofa, walked forward and grabbed the paper, but he held it high up, deliberately teasing her height.

"It doesn't seem unimportant to me." Li Wenmin said, grabbing the paper with both hands and turning his back to her. "It seems that you haven't achieved anything all day. There are only three words on it."

"Well, I'm not very good at planning."

"Who do you want to destroy?" Li Wenmin asked, and then handed the paper to her grasping hand.

"don’t worry."

"Is it the Bai family?" Li Wenmin suddenly asked.

She tensed up, her face blank. "I've always wanted to ask you this question, but how much do you and Brother Chen know about my past?"

"Enough to understand your desire to destroy their legacy."

"I don't want to destroy their legacy." Li Xueyue muttered and walked towards the table in her room, with Li Wenmin following behind her.

"Did you know that you have a half-brother? He is only two years old," Li Wenmin explained.

Li Xueyue sulked in the chair, supporting her chin, while Li Wenmin continued to scold her.

"What would happen to the children if you tried to destroy them?"

"Brother Wen——"

He raised a hand. "What I'm saying is that children shouldn't have to pay for the sins of their parents."

"I never intended to hurt my half brother. He is innocent." Li Xueyue sighed. "I just wanted revenge."

"Sometimes, it's best to let go of the past, otherwise it will hinder your future." Li Wenmin whispered, reaching out a comforting hand and placing it on hers. "Are you sure you want to continue pursuing this matter?"

Li Xueyue pulled her hand out from under his grip. "I can't give up my past that has affected my present and future."

"Is this the nightmare you have every night?" Li Wenmin muttered, looking straight at her. He could see the fatigue on her face, the dark circles and bags under her eyes. She always had trouble falling asleep, and even when she did fall asleep, she only blinked.

"They hurt me in more ways than one." Li Xueyue muttered.

“There are safer ways to cure it.”

Li Xueyue didn't respond. She looked everywhere except him.

"You're not going to change your mind?"

"I won't hurt the child." Li Xueyue clasped her fingers together and sighed.

She didn’t think that Li Wenmin would never be her voice of reason. She thought the person who taught her a lesson was Li Chenyang, but it turned out that he just supported her revenge. Even when he opposed it, he never showed any sign of opposition.

"When you successfully destroy those who hurt you, what will happen to the child?" Li Wenmin asked.

"Viscount Bai left him a large inheritance. As long as the child doesn't waste it rashly, there will be no problem."

"Then who will take care of him?" Li Wenmin sneered, pointing out the obvious flaw in her plan.

"His mother," she deadpanned.

“You won’t ruin her, will you?” Li Wenmin was surprised by this. He didn’t know that she felt this way about her mother. He thought Xueyue would wish everyone to go to hell.

"I can't blame her for being a bystander. She had her reasons."

Li Xueyue wishes she didn't have such a conscience. She understands why her mother had to do what she did. As a woman, Viscount Mu Yihua had to do everything she could to ensure her own survival, even at the expense of her daughter. But that doesn't mean Li Xueyue will forgive her mother for her inaction.

"In other words, your targets are Bai Tian Ai and your father——"

"He is not my father." Li Xueyue's eyes were blazing with anger and she said through gritted teeth.

“What?” Li Wenmin exclaimed. This part must have been left out in his parents’ explanation! “What do you mean?”

"If I tell you, you will look down on me." Li Xueyue covered her face and groaned.

"I promise I won't." Li Wenmin said firmly, grabbing her wrist and pulling her down. "I understand better than most people, Xiaoyue, as long as you tell the truth."

Li Xueyue examined his face. From the understanding in his raised eyebrows to his reassuring smile, he was the epitome of a man who kept his word. What's more, he had never lied to her before.

Finally, she admitted: "I am a bastard."
