The next morning, Li Xueyue woke up in a daze. She rubbed her eyes tiredly, confused by the strange dream she had last night. Yu Zhen appeared in her dream and comforted her. Haha, her imagination is really wild.

"What is this?" she said as she felt something hard in her hand. Turning the thing over, her entire face turned as white as parchment. The pendant slipped from her hand and landed softly on the bed. As she jumped up from the bed, her eyes widened, staring at the thing as if it could talk to her or something.

"What the hell?" she muttered, her mouth wide open. She poked at the pendant and turned it over, her throat dry.

Her hands trembled as she picked it up, the obsidian pendant staring back at her. It was forged from volcanic rock and inlaid with gold to create the illusion of lightning. A lion roared to the sky, and large golden characters read "Yu Zhen". When she turned the pendant over to her back, she could clearly see his title: "Second Prince of Cold Sword, First-Rank Commander."

"Oh my god," she sighed. "I jumped from the frying pan into the fire."

"Xiao Yue'er~" Li Wenmin shouted outside the door. "Are you awake? Breakfast is ready!" Without waiting for her to respond, he opened the door and strode in.

"Oh, what is that?" he asked, noticing the black object in her hand.

"They are both crazy!" Li Xueyue muttered softly and walked towards her dressing table.

"Hmm? Did you say anything?" he asked her as he watched her stuff something into her dresser drawer.

"nothing."

"Are you sure?" Li Wenmin asked curiously, lingering behind her. He didn't see clearly what it was.

"I just forgot to take off a piece of jewelry." Li Xueyue lied.

She knew it was better to drop the subject rather than continue to dwell on it. Who knew how Li Wenmin would react if she knew she had an extra pendant? Seriously, what was she? A pendant collector?

"Oh, are you sure?" Li Wenmin asked, "I thought you didn't have any black jewelry."

"When did you become so interested in my accessories?" She smiled and leaned over to pinch his cheek. "You mean you want to play dress-up?"

"Uh, no."

"I expect—"

"I prefer playing house."

"What?" She blinked.

"What?" he repeated, blinking innocently when she looked at him in disbelief.

"For your sake, I'll pretend I didn't hear it." Li Xueyue patted his shoulder and was about to send him out of the room when the maids came in to prepare.

Li Wenmin scratched the back of his neck and smiled at her sheepishly. "I just said that in case you want to play games."

"I thought you didn't like playing games." Li Xueyue pouted and smiled.

"I do, I do! I play Morning Sun a lot!"

"What type of game?"

“Just like the game of Go [1]”.

"You can play Go? I'm proud of you, Brother Wen!" Li Xueyue smiled and clapped her hands, and the maids began to prepare today's outfits - light light green Hanfu, dark forest blue belts, and yellow daisy decorations.

"Actually, you should be proud of me. I always beat Brother Chen!"

"That's because I let you win." Li Chenyang explained as he walked into the room to see what had delayed her for so long. "To be honest, Wenmin, I can never believe that you were the one who delivered the letter. You distracted her from her preparations."

“No, I always win because I’m a strategist in the army.” Li Wenmin frowned and decided to ignore the last comment.

"Whoever told you this is a big liar." Li Chenyang sneered.

"You are a big liar." Li Wenmin rolled his eyes.

"How are you growing up?" Li Chenyang snorted and dragged the twins out of the room so that Xueyue could get dressed and go have breakfast together.

"You first!" Li Wenmin bit back and struggled under Li Chenyang's grip. "You wrinkled my clothes!"

"Father wants to come to the study to see us again." Li Chenyang told him, and decided to ignore the last sentence just as Li Wenmin ignored him.

Li Wenmin's playful smile disappeared. He nodded briefly. "Okay then." He took one last look at the room, but Xueyue was nowhere to be seen. She was led behind a screen, and a maid came to close the door.

"See you later, Xiaoyue!" Li Wenmin called out, and the maid bowed and said goodbye. After the twins left, she closed the door tightly.

"What happened to the guards outside Xueyue's room? During the morning shift, they said that all of them were knocked unconscious. No one was seriously injured, just bruises." Li Wenmin said.

"I have a bad suspicion that our dear father let a predator into the house." Li Chenyang muttered.

"Predator? Are you talking about Wen Jinkai?" Li Wenmin's face darkened. Day by day, that man was losing his respect.

“No, what’s worse is that the person who has the most potential to lead Xueyue out of this house.” Li Chenyang frowned.

"What do you mean?" Li Wenmin asked puzzledly, who is this?

"Use your brain." Li Chenyang cast an incredulous look at Li Wenmin who shrugged.

"Sometimes, I just don't bother to think about it. Besides, it's only nine in the morning. Whose brain wakes up so early?"

Li Chenyang rolled his eyes. "Sometimes I wonder why you are a strategist."

"Why don't you ask me about Go's victory over you."

"Forget it." Li Chenyang muttered, unable to admit that he had lost to Li Wenmin many times in that strategy game.

"Also, has Han Jieru's punishment been determined?" Li Wenmin asked, waiting for Li Chenyang's answer, because court ministers usually deal with these minor crimes.

"She stayed in the cold palace for three days, and then was sent back home."

"Cold Palace?" Li Wenmin shuddered at the thought of that horrible place.

The cold palace was shrouded in terrible darkness. One could not see where one's own hands were. Occasionally, water dripped from who knows where, creating an eerie atmosphere. The temperature there was always cold, and the ladies wore very little clothing. The food was scarce and unappetizing, and water was only provided once a day. Anyone who stayed there for a day would go crazy, let alone three days.

"Too harsh," Li Wenmin pointed out, then smiled cruelly at Li Chenyang. "I expect the same from your sadistic mind."

"Her punishment will be announced to all nobles. If you love a girl like this during the day, you must think twice before insulting our Xueyue." Li Chenyang chuckled.

"Wait, did something happen between them?" Li Wenmin asked, scratching the back of his head.

Li Wenmin knew everything his parents had said to him when Xueyue joined their family. He knew her origins and her abused background, but not as much as Li Chenyang had researched on his own.

"Yes, you dare to insult the third-rank princess. Someone has to set an example. Han Jieru is the biggest fish we are hanging."

"They are getting bolder. I mean the Bai family." Li Wenmin frowned. "Should we do something about them?"

"Xue Yue has already humiliated them in public at Ning Huabing's banquet. Let her decide how to deal with it."

"Okay then." Li Wenmin nodded. "Speaking of Ning Huabing, mother has been talking about finding you a girl. What do you think of her? She is the daughter of a marquis."

"I know." Li Chenyang replied vaguely. "I am hesitant about her loyalty. Besides, I prefer to fall in love naturally."

“Imagine falling in love with someone as cold as you? I pity my future sister-in-law.” Seeing Li Chenyang’s face darken, Li Wenmin snickered.

"shut up."

"You're just jealous because girls like me more."

"Quality is more important than quantity." Li Chenyang retorted and Li Wenmin rolled his eyes.

"Yes, of course, it depends on your ship."
