End of the World

Chapter 30 Initial Settlement

Zhu Zhenguo returned to the army only after settling Wu Bin and the others. Before leaving, he solemnly told Wu Bin that anyone who robbed, stole, raped, killed, or gang-fighted in the shelter would be shot. The army did not confiscate Wu Bin's gun because it was a special period, so he should try not to take out his gun unless necessary, and he could find him in the barracks if he had any problems.

Everyone knew that Zhu Zhenguo was doing this for their own good, so they agreed. They didn't go to the shelter to fight.

Everyone parked the RVs in the shape of a "品" character, with Dafeng's four-wheel drive off-road RV in the middle, and Wu Bin and Qiao Xinghua's eight-wheel drive off-road RVs on both sides. The RV doors were facing the middle of the "品" character. It would be even more perfect if the roof was covered above the middle position.

It was gradually getting dark outside. The registrar said that food would only be distributed at noon every day, so they would have noodles tonight. We had just arrived and had not yet adapted to the environment, so we had little appetite. Everyone ate very little, except for Dafeng and Chen Guangjun. They were probably so full just by looking at the zombies.

On the first night when I first arrived, I was unfamiliar with the place and someone was assigned to be on duty in the car. In the apocalypse, sometimes people are scarier than zombies, and everyone can clearly feel the scrutiny from all the eyes around them.

The dawn illuminates the earth, and the new sun rises from the east, bringing a touch of vitality to the dead silent shelter. Everyone gets up very early in the morning. Maybe it's because of the environment here. Everyone is curious about the outside world. This is the first time to see so many people since the disaster. However, the scene here is not quite the same as imagined. There is no beauty between people as before. It can be said that everyone has their own thoughts.

Wu Bin, Dafeng and Qiao Xinghua walked around the area to get familiar with the environment. The survivors nearby kept looking at the three people, with curiosity and vigilance. There were all kinds of people here, and it could be said that there were good and bad people mixed together. Wu Bin paid special attention to the complexion of these people. Most of them were pale and thin, which was similar to what Zhu Zhenguo said, and they were not well-nourished.

"Brother Bin, what are those girls doing?" Dafeng noticed that there were several young girls wearing very revealing clothes in some hidden corners, and some of them even waved at him.

"Professional color workers!" Qiao Xinghua had also seen it a long time ago. He thought that if he and Meng Zihan had not met everyone, they would be in a much worse situation.

"What is a color professional?" Dafeng didn't quite understand what it meant.

"They are the ladies who used to work in bars and KTVs!" Wu Bin took a look and explained. In troubled times, this kind of situation should become more common. Women who have no ability to protect themselves can only sell their souls.

"I understand!" Dafeng knew that this was what was called being a prostitute. He sighed in his heart. Why did they have to sell their bodies? The most valuable were women who knew how to keep themselves clean.

The three of them wandered back to the RV and saw the girls packing their things diligently. They only now had time to sort out the things that had been crammed in haphazardly before. Xiao Huang was lying on the side and watching obediently. When he saw Wu Bin and the others coming back, he went up and wagged his tail to greet them.

The three of them touched Xiao Huang's head. Wu Bin looked at the girls and then looked outside, frowning slightly. There were a few men on the side of the road staring at them with lustful eyes, with no concealment in their eyes.

"Do you want me to chase them away?" Dafeng realized that those thin men were no match for him.

"We just arrived, we can't cause trouble!" Wu Bin shook his head and refused. It was obviously unwise to conflict with other survivors now. It would be better to wait for some time to find out the situation first.

"That's right, this is very disadvantageous to us!" Qiao Xinghua agreed with Wu Bin's point of view. They did not actually hinder their own people, and it was wrong for them to drive them away indiscriminately.

Wu Bin went over and told the three girls to put their things aside and get in the car first. The three girls thought something was wrong and put down their work.

"Don't come out unless you have to!" Wu Bin got into the car and said directly to the three girls. The survivors around them were very dangerous, and the girls were suspected of seducing others and committing crimes outside. Sometimes people are just so unreasonable.

"Ah?" The girls were shocked and didn't know why this happened. They couldn't even be around the RV?

"What? There are a pack of wolves surrounding us outside. Did you see those men outside? They are almost drooling when they see you!" Wu Bin pointed outside without waiting for them to speak. Sometimes beautiful women can be troublesome.

"It's not that exaggerated!" He Yuxin was a little unconvinced. They should be safe here. Didn't Zhu Zhenguo say that public security is strictly controlled?

"There are ladies over there, but they are not looking for them. Why should they look at you?" Qiao Xinghua said.

"Is there a lady over there?" Meng Zihan asked. Of course she knew what a lady meant. Are there still people who work as ladies now?

"Yes! He waved at me!" Dafeng said and imitated waving, looking very coquettish.

This made the three girls laugh, "Hey, why don't you respond to them?" Meng Zihan joked.

"Bah! Are they like that? I find it dirty!" Dafeng spat with disdain. He had no interest in women who didn't know how to love themselves, and he didn't want to be flattered and become the king of hats.

Everyone laughed, and even if they were not interested, they still said it excitedly. The girls knew the situation outside and would not go out unless necessary. They knew that they were not afraid of being seen but were afraid of being remembered. Zhu Zhenguo had given everyone a heads-up before.

Wu Bin felt relieved after hearing their assurances, "Where are Sister Yun and Chen Guangjun?" Wu Bin did not see them when he came back.

"The two of them went to look for Zhu Zhenguo." Meng Zihan responded. The two of them specially greeted them before leaving.

"Why are they going to see Old Zhu?" Qiao Xinghua frowned. Zhu Zhenguo has helped everyone a lot, and they can't always bother him.

"Sister Yun is wondering if she can find a job in the shelter. As for Brother Jun, he probably wants to return to the team!" He Yuxin knew something about this. Fang Xiaoyun mentioned this to her last night.

"Find a job?" Wu Bin knew that Fang Xiaoyun was a doctor, and the shelter would probably be in need of medical staff. Chen Guangjun was a special police officer, so he could go back to his old job.

"I think this is a good idea. Maybe they can even get better treatment!" Qiao Xinghua agreed with their approach. It was not a big deal to stay in the RV forever.

"Their treatment will definitely be improved!" Wu Bin said. Chen Guangjun joined the army and was given priority in army food rationing. Fang Xiaoyun was a doctor, so his conditions should not be bad.

"How about we take over the entire position as well?" Dafeng suggested. It was really boring to stay here all the time, so it would be better to seek better conditions.

"They need you to do it! What will happen to them if we leave?" Wu Bin glanced at the girls. The security environment here was not good and he was worried about them.

"Brother Bin is right, let's stay!" Qiao Xinghua was also worried about Meng Zihan staying here. It would be fine if Chen Guangjun was here, as he was a special police officer and could take on ten people at once.

At noon, Wu Bin and Dafeng took metal cards to the designated location to collect food. There was food on the car, but they tried to save as much as possible. They also wanted to experience how poor the food distribution in the shelter was.

The two came to the designated small square, which was packed with people and noisy. There were uniformed security personnel on the sidelines maintaining order. A team of soldiers stood outside the food distribution center, holding rifles to prevent people from causing trouble. The scene looked exactly like the refugee camps on TV. Wu Bin had not thought that he would have the opportunity to experience it.

"What are you two doing? Go line up over there!" A security officer saw Wu Bin and Dafeng standing here and thought they were trying to cut in line, so he shouted at them.

The two just wanted to come and see what was going on, but when they were yelled at, they went to the end of the line. It must be said that the line was long enough, and the two waited for more than ten minutes without moving.

"Brother Bin, if this continues we'll have to wait in line forever!" Dafeng looked at the endless queue in front of him. There were too many people.

"There's nothing we can do. It's our fault for coming here late!" Wu Bin thought to himself that there really is no free lunch in the world. This is going to take time until people collapse.

After waiting for half an hour, the team finally showed signs of moving and the two of them took a small step forward. It felt as exciting as leaving a footprint on the moon. As expected, a small step forward meant a big step closer to the food.

Wu Bin glanced at the line in front of him and thought it was too hasty. It seemed that it wouldn't be too late to come back after lunch, but there was another long line behind the two of them. Leaving would mean all their efforts would be wasted.

"Brother Bin, I can't stand it anymore!" Dafeng's stomach has been hungry for a long time, and now it is growling in protest. It's almost past mealtime and he hasn't eaten yet!

Wu Bin wiped the sweat off his face and said, "Just bear with it! If we go back now, we will really go back empty-handed!"

Dafeng looked at the group of people who were doing the same revolution. Many of them were already very impatient. Those who tried to cut in line were pulled to the back by the security team and asked to line up again. Some were even worse and had their food rations for today directly cancelled.

No one sympathized with those dishonest guys. Everyone else seemed to be gloating over their misfortune, as if they wanted to watch a good show.

Wu Bin took in the expressions of all kinds of people and couldn't help but shake his head in his heart. Although there must be hateful aspects in pitiful people, there is no need to be proud. You never know when it will happen to you.

"Brother Bin, those guys are so miserable!" Dafeng burst into tears when he saw those whose rations were canceled, and was then dragged out by the security team.

"You have brought this upon yourself!" Wu Bin would not sympathize with any of them. If there are rules, you should follow them. If you don't have the strength, don't challenge authority. We are all adults and should pay for our own actions.

Dafeng shook his head. Those people wanted to do things recklessly just for the sake of quick success, but their greed would lead to nothing.

I don't know how long it was before it was finally their turn. They handed in their cards, and the dispatcher swiped the cards and gave them the full amount of steamed buns without even looking at them.

Amid the surprised gazes of the people around them, they took a pile of steamed buns and packed them into two bags. They ignored the gazes of others, calmly packed the buns, picked up the bags and left.

"I was so scared, I thought those people wanted to steal our steamed buns!" Avoiding the sight of the people in the square, Dafeng let out a deep breath. It was really uncomfortable to see so many eyes on him.

"There's no need to rob them. The weapons in the hands of the soldiers next to us are not toys!" Wu Bin walked to the front. The most basic order was maintained in the shelter.

When they were almost back to the RV, the two heard Xiao Huang's barking from afar. They felt nervous, fearing that something had happened at home, and they couldn't help but quicken their pace.
