Chapter 25 Dumbledore’s temptation

Harry expressed sympathy when he learned that Alicia was going to continue to complete the mission. He said goodbye to the girl and returned to the dormitory.

Harry didn't think it was a big deal that the girl stayed there. After all, for a Gryffindor, a night out was as common as eating and drinking.

What is Alicia doing looking for an excuse to stay here?

She didn't know why she should stay here.

The girl's thoughts were a little confused. The Dark Lord who suppressed and then taught her, the Savior who was looking for information in the restricted area, the Godfather who noticed something was wrong and followed Quirrell here, and the scene in this strange mirror appeared in her mind alternately.

She tried to deduce the truth that was closest to the facts, as if only in this way could she gain a sense of security in such a turbulent environment.

To outsiders, the girl looked like she was staring at the mirror in a daze.

"Alicia, can I ask why you are here?" A kind old man appeared behind the girl. Maybe he was there from the beginning, or maybe he came in after standing outside the door for a while - the girl was not sure.

Alicia was startled, but she was relieved when she saw that the person coming was Dumbledore: "Principal Dumbledore? Good night. As for the reason why I am here, you have heard it all."

Well, she was just testing out of habit to see if the conversation was heard by anyone else.

Unexpectedly, Dumbledore did not deny it. He smiled at the girl in a friendly manner, not at all embarrassed by being exposed. "I'm sorry, but please forgive an old man's worry. I'm very happy that you and Harry are exploring the Mirror of Erised, and I'm happy for your friendship. It's just that most people will be deeply trapped when facing this magic mirror. I have to observe your situation."

"Mirror of Erised?" The girl would not deny her "friendship" with Gryffindor in front of Dumbledore, so she could only change the subject abruptly. "So that's how it is. On the other hand, Eris is desire."

“Erised” turned upside down means “desire”.

Following this logic, Alicia looked at the line of words at the top of the mirror and spelled it out in reverse: "What I show is not your reflection, but your inner desire."

"Yes, it seems that potions are just one of the things Miss Malfoy is good at." Dumbledore did not hesitate to praise, "This mirror does not give us knowledge or truth. Too many people waste their time in front of the mirror and even go crazy because of it."

Alicia glanced at the headmaster's expression calmly and said with regret, "That's really sad. I thought I had a good chance of becoming the Minister of Magic."

Dumbledore was not Harry, and was naturally not so easily fooled. He knew that the girl in front of him did not tell him everything she had seen, but he did not care, just as Alicia did not expose Harry's helpless lie.

"Oh! An ideal that I didn't expect - I thought you would be more interested in becoming a Potions Master. Child, this road is often paved with thorns of temptation and desire, but as long as you stick to your heart, then it is not an unattainable dream." Dumbledore looked a little surprised, but the last sentence proved that he had not forgotten the intention of creating this opportunity for conversation.

Alicia knew that Dumbledore was not someone who could be easily manipulated. She endured the discomfort and put on an innocent and touching expression: "Thank you for your encouragement, Headmaster Dumbledore! I will work hard!"

Dumbledore suddenly seemed dazed.

When he saw Alicia pretending to be well-behaved, the first person he thought of was that person.

A man he had watched go astray.

Decades ago, he had repeatedly tried and followed a Slytherin student.

His name is Tom Riddle.

His current name is Voldemort.

The girl observed Dumbledore's complicated expression, and her intuition told her that what the white-bearded old man was thinking was definitely not a good thing.

She lowered her eyes slightly, thought for a while, turned her head, looked at the magic mirror that reached the ceiling, and asked, "May I ask you something? What do you see in this mirror?"

Dumbledore, whose memories were interrupted, did not look abnormal. He followed the girl's gaze, and his eyes behind the half-moon lenses flickered for a moment.

"I-I saw myself holding a pair of thick woolen socks."

Alicia didn't delve into it further. After diverting Dumbledore's thoughts, she planned to leave.

Dad was right. Dumbledore was indeed cunning and sly. Talking to him required my brain to work constantly. It was tiring and stressful. Not only did I have to constantly analyze the unspoken meanings of his words, but I also had to be careful not to be tricked!

Dumbledore saw what the girl meant and did not try to stop her. However, after Alicia said goodbye to him, he replied kindly, "Sleep well, Alicia. I will suggest to Quirrell not to assign such dangerous homework to students."

Alicia almost fell flat on her face. She tried hard to steady herself, but she couldn't think of a suitable excuse. She could only laugh dryly, "Ha...haha, actually, I really like night outings. I just didn't want Harry to catch me and deduct points from Slytherin, so I came up with this...excuse. I'm going back to the dormitory. Good night, Headmaster Dumbledore."

Damn it, he actually listened to it from beginning to end!

Could it be that she was also seen when she was looking for information?

Everything went wrong tonight!

As soon as the girl finished speaking, she ran out of the empty room, and her back looked like she was fleeing in panic.

Dumbledore did not follow her, but kept staring in the direction where Alicia was walking away quickly, as if waiting for something.

He knew from the beginning that Voldemort would return sooner or later, and he was also determined to train Harry to become a mature and powerful wizard as soon as possible.

However, all the arrangements seemed a little pale and powerless when Hagrid reported to him not long ago that several unicorns had died in the Forbidden Forest - Voldemort had sneaked into Hogwarts without his knowledge.

He searched carefully for a long time but found no trace of Voldemort. Even the most suspicious Quirrell had no evidence to show that he was a real Death Eater.

But Alicia is different.

Quirrell's attention to her obviously came from Voldemort's orders. As a result, she was the only one in the entire Hogwarts who was most likely to expose Quirrell's mask.

He needs to be responsible for all the teachers and students, needs to protect Harry, and needs to find clues to Voldemort's whereabouts.

Alicia was his connection to that clue.

Dumbledore was unable to come back to his senses for a long time. No one knew what he was thinking except himself.

He took the initiative to isolate himself, and used methods that were praised or opposed by others to protect Hogwarts, which he wanted to protect, and loved the wizarding world he was in.

After fifteen minutes of silence, the person he was waiting for finally showed up.

Snape, who had cast an Disillusionment Charm and escorted Alicia all the way back to her dormitory, returned with obvious anger on his face.

Before Dumbledore could speak, he rushed in with a frown and growled aggressively: "Dumbledore, you promised me!"
