Harry Potter: Reunion with the Enemy
Chapter 58 Dragon's Nest Survival Guide
The choking smell of smoke, the stench of dragon droppings and the occasionally rising temperature woke Harry up from his slumber.
I don’t know what day it is. The enclosed space makes it impossible to distinguish day from night. The dungeon is filled with the heavy footsteps and gasps of the fire dragon as it tries to move.
The overly turbid air caused Harry to cough violently. He tried to calm his breathing, while confirming that the Disillusionment Charm had not failed, and checking through the iron fence. The goblin that patrolled every half an hour had not appeared yet.
The passages between the dungeons were empty at the moment. The dim firelight illuminated the fire dragons imprisoned in the surrounding cells. Their pupils of different colors emitted an eerie light in the dim surroundings.
"Okay... okay... I might still have to steal some of your food." Harry looked back at his roommate, a Romanian long-horned dragon, who was sleeping docilely under the influence of drugs. In addition to dark green scales, this dragon also has a long golden horn, which is convenient for killing prey with the horn and roasting it with fire.
Harry sighed, carefully walked around the long horns, scooped up a handful of bloody liquid from the pool beside the dungeon door, and forced himself to drink it. The strong fishy smell and alcohol made him want to retch.
Of course he knew what it was—chicken-blood brandy.
When Hagrid was raising Norbert, a little dragon, in his first year, he had made a lot of this kind of food for dragons. At that time, the hut was full of alcohol and chicken feathers. As time passed, Harry did not expect that he would have to rely on this drink for a living. Maybe the goblin and Hagrid were reading the same book when they were raising dragons - "Raising Dragons for Fun and Profit".
In addition to chicken blood brandy, the goblins would also throw in some raw meat and raw fish and shrimps through the railings. Most of the time the supply was not stable, and the Romanian longhorned dragon would eat all the raw meat as soon as possible, and would throw the raw fish aside with disgust after smelling it. These raw fish were an important factor in Harry not fainting from hunger - put them next to the dragon's mouth and wait for the flames to come out and cook them. Except for the strong fishy smell, everything was acceptable.
The security in the dungeon was much laxer than that in Gringotts, so it was not difficult for Harry to escape.
But he touched the wand in his pocket that had been broken into two pieces by the dragon and sighed. He had cast spells smoothly on the way here, so much so that he didn't even notice that Draco's wand was an inch shorter than his original holly wand.
After using the Confounding Charm to deal with the goblin at the dungeon door that night, Harry and King Snake walked relatively smoothly in the open dungeon - except for having to carefully avoid the goblins who were moving and sorting supplies, most of the mechanisms and doors were not in working order.
Harry followed the sound all the way to the bottom level. The vast dungeon was separated by compartments with dragons. Each of these dragons was about twenty feet long. Although they were not as big as the adult dragons Harry encountered in the Triwizard Tournament, they were much larger than the ones Norbert sent away.
Too bad, the situation was much more complicated than he had imagined when he arrived at night. Harry had only wanted to take a preliminary look when he followed the California king snake to this dungeon hundreds of miles under the sea.
Harry quickly looked around the corridor outside the dungeon and found that the dragon imprisoned here was similar to the one he had seen in Gringotts before. Its eyes had traces of being attacked, and they looked cloudy and painful. There were mottled bloodstains and marks of being cut by swords on its body, and it was obvious that its scales had just been stripped off. In addition, Harry found that they were wearing heavy chains on their wings and hind legs.
"I think I can't alert the enemy, so let's retreat first. I'll report to the Ministry of Magic when I return to London. There's a protective spell cast here, and wizards can't Apparate away." Harry said to the California King Snake beside him that was also cast under the Disillusionment Charm.
"Then let's go back the same way." The California King Snake understood and quickly wrapped itself around Harry's arm, motioning him to go back to the forest.
Just as Harry was about to take a step, a loud bang exploded at their feet, and Harry took a few steps back in shock.
A goblin apparated to the side holding another man.
"Mr. Chief Whip, this is it. Once a new batch of dragon materials is mined and transported, we will close the door of the dungeon. This place is hundreds of miles under the sea, and neither other Muggles nor wizards can find it. The goblins' anti-theft and confidentiality technology is first-class. After all, the wizards' vaults and banks are managed by goblins." The goblin introduced with a slightly arrogant look.
"I can't believe that I have served so many prime ministers, but none of them told me anything about the wizarding world." The 1.9-meter-tall man left a long shadow in the dim light.
Harry held his breath. Prime Minister?
Yes, he knew that the Minister of Magic had to get in touch with the then Muggle Prime Minister, and that there was a portrait of the Minister of Magic with a permanent sticky spell in the Prime Minister's office, and that he needed to inform the wizarding world of major events when necessary.
What is the Chief Whip? Why does he know all this? And how is he connected to the goblins?
Many thoughts were running through Harry's mind. Suddenly, another goblin appeared, carrying a large bucket of alcohol-smelling liquid, and walked towards him.
Harry quickly stepped back and unknowingly entered an iron cage covered in blood. It seemed that the goblins had just dealt with the fire dragon, and the door was still open.
The goblin looked through him at the dragon behind him. Harry hurriedly stepped back and stumbled to the ground. The wand in his hand was accidentally thrown aside. Fortunately, it fell into a pile of dragon dung and made no sound.
The goblin poured the liquid in the bucket into the pool in the prison in one go, and didn't seem to notice anything unusual.
Just as Harry breathed a sigh of relief and was about to quietly approach to pick it up, the Romanian longhorn beside him seemed to rush around with the chain because of the severe pain, and a crisp cracking sound rang in Harry's ears.
The wand had been stepped on and broken into two pieces, revealing the pure white unicorn hair.
It took Harry a few seconds to realize who the wand belonged to, and by the time he realized what was happening, the goblin had locked the cell door.
The voices of the Chief Whip and the Goblin were still heard intermittently outside the door.
Harry actually spent about half an hour thinking about how to comfort Draco before he realized the seriousness of the situation. Casting spells without a wand is a skill that only a few powerful wizards can master.
He was trapped in this place where he couldn't Apparate away.
