Rocot: Reborn

Chapter 283

"Qualified?" Rocot laughed in anger, but the laughter was uglier than crying, echoing in the empty laboratory, as if mocking, and also mocking himself, "Who is qualified, and who is not qualified? Who threw me into that hellhole like a dog, letting those half-human, half-ghost creatures torture and trample me? Who kept saying that it was for the future of mankind, but pushed me into the abyss with his own hands? How dare you stand here and talk to me about salvation?"

He approached step by step, each step seemed to step on the other's heart, his tone was cold as ice, "Why, your ridiculous conscience finally began to trouble you? Ten years ago you turned me into a monster, ten years later, do you want to do it again?"

"Lockold, calm down!" The man finally stepped out of the shadows, revealing his angular face. The years had left traces of vicissitudes on his face, but they could not hide the determination and hidden pain in his eyes. "I know you hate me, but back then..."

"Shut up!" Rocot roared, interrupting him. "Don't fucking mention the past to me! Do you think that a casual word like 'the past' can erase everything? What the hell can you do to make up for the pain I suffered and everything I lost?"

His scarlet eyes stared at the other person, as if he wanted to tear the other person into pieces. "Who do you think you are? A savior? You are just a self-righteous hypocrite! You keep saying that you are doing this for the future of mankind, but you can't even protect the people around you! What qualifications do you have to stand here and tell me what to do?!"

"Lockold, I know you are in pain now, but you can't..."

"Pain? Do you know what pain is?!" Rocot suddenly stretched out his hand, grabbed the other's neck, and pressed him hard against the cold wall. "Have you ever experienced the feeling of being betrayed by the person you trust the most? Have you ever felt the despair of being swallowed by darkness and being unable to live or die?!"

The force in his hands was getting stronger and stronger, as if he wanted to strangle the other person to death. His scarlet eyes were bloodshot, and his voice was hoarse and desperate, "I wish I could tear you into pieces and let you taste the pain I have experienced!"

Dr. Li leaned against the wall weakly, watching the scene in front of her, her heart filled with fear and despair. She wanted to stop Rokod, but found that she didn't even have the strength to speak.

"Locked, let...let him go..." She uttered a few words with difficulty, her voice as weak as a mosquito flying.

Rocot turned a deaf ear to him, his scarlet eyes fixed on the man in his hand, like a bloodthirsty beast, ready to tear his prey to pieces at any time.

"Lockold, look at me..." The man spoke with difficulty, his voice was hoarse and weak, but his eyes were still firm, "Look at me... Do you still remember... our agreement?"

Rocot's hands trembled slightly, and a trace of confusion flashed in his scarlet eyes, as if something was about to break out of the ground, but was deeply suppressed.

"Promise...?" He murmured to himself, with a hint of imperceptible pain and confusion in his tone, "What promise... I already... don't remember anything..."

"No... do you still remember..." The man grabbed his hand, his tone was hurried and weak, "Do you still remember... you said... that you would protect this world... protect... our common dream..."

Rocot's body began to tremble violently, and his scarlet eyes flashed with struggle, pain, and... a barely perceptible... trace of nostalgia.

"No! That's all fake! It's all a lie!" He shook off the other person's hand violently, as if trying to get rid of some terrible nightmare, staggered back a few steps, and fell down on the cold floor.

"Lockold..."

"Don't come over here!" Rocot held his head and screamed in pain, his voice full of despair and sadness, "Don't come over here... leave me alone... for a while..."

He curled up on the ground like a wounded beast, licking his bloody wounds, his eyes filled with pain, confusion, and... deep... despair.

Dr. Li wanted to step forward, but was stopped by the man.

"Leave him alone for a while." The man said, gently pulling Dr. Li behind him and looking at the figure curled up on the ground with complicated eyes.

Rocot remained in that position, as if the outside world had nothing to do with him. His body was trembling slightly, as if he was in great pain. After a long time, he slowly raised his head, revealing a face full of tears.

"Why..." He asked hoarsely, as if he was asking himself, or the whole world, "Why did I become like this..."

No one answered him, and the whole room was terribly quiet. Only his suppressed crying echoed in the empty room, as if he was accusing his fate of being unfair.

Dr. Li looked at the man who was once so arrogant, but now he was as helpless and desperate as a lost child. She felt mixed emotions. She wanted to say something, but found that she couldn't say anything.

After a long silence, Rocot finally stopped crying. He slowly stood up, wiped the tears from his face with his sleeves, and looked ahead with empty eyes, as if he had lost his soul.

"Go away." He said in a hoarse voice, with a hint of fatigue and weakness in his tone, "Let me be alone for a while."

Dr. Li opened her mouth, but in the end said nothing. She looked at Rocot deeply, turned around and left the room.

Rocot was the only one left in the room. He walked to the window and looked at the bustling night scene of the city outside, but there was no light in his eyes.

"Is this what you wanted? Is this what you fought so hard for?"

Rocot murmured to himself, his tone full of self-mockery and bitterness.

Once upon a time, he was a young man full of ideals and ambitions, dreaming of changing the world with his own strength. But a sudden change completely plunged him into the abyss.

Betrayal, conspiracy, killing...those dark memories haunted him like a leech, making it impossible for him to breathe or escape.

He desperately wanted to forget the past and start over, but the unforgettable pain was like a brand deeply imprinted in the depths of his soul, leaving him nowhere to escape.

"Do you think you can really escape the arrangement of fate?" A cold voice suddenly sounded in his ears, "Do you think you can really change everything?"

Rocot turned around suddenly, but found the room empty.

"Who is it?!" he asked harshly, with a hint of fear and anger in his voice.

"It's me, and it's you." The voice sounded again, as if coming from all directions. "I am the darkness deep in your heart, the nightmare that you will never be able to get rid of."

"Get out! Get out of my mind!" Rocot held his head in pain, trying to stop the voice from continuing.

"You can't stop me, Rocot." The voice seemed to read his mind. "I am you and you are me. We are one."

"No! You are not me! I will not surrender to you!" Rocot struggled and roared, trying to break free from the control of the voice.

"Really? Then look at what this is?"

As the voice spoke, a mirror suddenly appeared in front of Roccod. In the mirror, a hideous monster with an evil aura was smiling at him.

“See? This is the real you.” The voice was full of temptation. “Accept your fate, Rocot. Only by embracing the darkness can you gain true power and get everything you want.”

Roccod looked at the monster in the mirror, his eyes full of fear and struggle. He wanted to look away, but found that he couldn't move at all.

"Come on, Rocot." The voice was getting closer and clearer. "Join me, let us rule the world together..."

Roccod's body began to tremble violently. There was a trace of struggle, fear, and... an irrepressible desire in his eyes...
