Professor of Gemology at Hogwarts
Chapter 7 School Opening Dinner
"I'm very happy that we can become colleagues! Gray!" Lockhart said, shaking the photo, "I think you must be very happy to join me, Gilderoy Lockhart, but fortunately we are not the same applicants. A position, because I don’t want to embarrass you. As a welcome gift, this is my signature.”
Gray turned his head and looked at him. He had never felt such noise in his ears. Even the talkative Arnold had to give in.
"Please allow me to introduce myself." He pointed to his photo, winked and said, "Gilderoy Lockhart, Order of Merlin, Third Class, honorary member of the Defense League against Dark Arts, five-time winner of the Wizard Weekly is the most fascinating..."
"Okay, thank you for your kindness, Lockhart!" Gray quickly took the photo and shut him up.
"Without anyone else, you can just call me Gilderoy. I know this will surprise you! Because many people want to call me that -"
Gray didn't want to hear any more of him.
"Ah, spar science! I have also done some research on spar science. When I was traveling outside, I often encountered some special stones. For this reason, I spent a lot of time classifying them and studying them!"
"I think we need to dine quietly, Gilderoy." Gray forced a smile, "If we don't focus on our meal now, the banquet will be over soon."
"I think so!" Lockhart responded to Gray with a standard smile, picked up the knife and fork and started cutting the steak, "It would be even better if there was a large bottle of Ogden aged firewhiskey!"
Flitwick, who was not far away on the other side, looked at the two of them curiously, and then looked at each other with Sprout, as if they were watching a play. Anyone with a discerning eye could see that Gray was unwilling to talk to Lockhart.
Flitwick was sitting beside him, with several books cushioned on his seat. Gray didn't notice how he came up just now.On the other side, not far away, Hagrid was holding up his wine glass and taking a swig. After seeing Gray looking this way, he raised his wine glass and smiled at Gray.
"Gymology, Grey, I didn't expect you to be here to teach this subject." Flitwick said as he touched the pie on his plate. "It is a long-forgotten magic. I know that you know crystal science I’m very happy after doing some research on crystals! I think we can talk more about crystals if we have the opportunity in the future.”
"I will be very happy." Gray nodded. Although Professor Flitwick is short, he is respectable, not only because of his superb magic, but also because of his constant thirst for knowledge.
After a while, Snape and Dumbledore returned to the Great Hall.
"Oh! Look, let me see - why didn't I see Harry? Where did our Harry go?" Lockhart looked up at the Gryffindor table, but was interrupted by a few nymphomaniacs. The girls mistakenly thought he was greeting them.
"You almost lost sight of Potter. He and Weasley would have been expelled... for driving a flying car to school without permission." Snape said with disdain in his tone, "It really surprised me. This "Two students ignored the Reasonable Restraint of Minor Wizards Act and caused very, very serious damage to a precious ancient tree, yet were not expelled."
Snape, who was about to return to his place, happened to pass by and heard Lockhart chanting Harry's name, so he stopped and reported Harry and Ron's crimes to other professors.
Dumbledore sat down peacefully, pretending not to hear anything, looking like it had nothing to do with him, and enjoying the custard tart by himself.
"Oh, could it be that--" Flitwick seemed to have thought of something, "that the fact that the Evening Prophet was seen flying by seven Muggles today was Potter and Weasley's doing?"
"Oh! God!" Lockhart said in surprise before anyone else could react. "It really surprised me to fly to Hogwarts in a car! It made it to the front page of the newspaper - it was mine. Wrong, I shouldn't have taken a photo with him in the bookstore and let him appear on the front page with me. The taste of fame confused him at a young age and even made him addicted. He wanted to do it again... I understand him, but I want to talk to him tomorrow. When I was 12 years old, I was as ordinary as he is now..."
Gray held back his laughter, but Lockhart took it as a smile of approval. Lockhart patted him on the shoulder and thanked him for his approval.
"Severus, was the ancient tree you just said damaged the Whomping Willow?" Sprout focused all his attention on the ancient tree.
"Yes, Pomona, the Whomping Willow has suffered some minor damage. For this reason, I hope you can go take a look at the Whomping Willow tomorrow and try to repair it." Before Snape could speak, Dumbledore answered Sprout.
Gray found this scene quite interesting. Snape just said "very, very serious damage", while Dumbledore said "slight and small damage".
As soon as Dumbledore finished speaking, Snape looked very dissatisfied, even a little angry. He glanced at Dumbledore, who pretended not to see Snape and started eating by himself again.
"No problem, Professor Dumbledore." Sprout smiled and nodded.
"Ah, I happened to see a few of this strange plant during my travels, and I even did some research on how to treat its injuries. I think I can go with you, Professor Sprout, and I will do some research on it then. Show me." Lockhart smiled, showing his big white teeth.
Sprout seemed a little surprised by what he said, but he still nodded in agreement: "Thank you very much, Gilderoy. Since you have encountered this situation, it should be easier for me with your assistance."
Flitwick on the side was skeptical about this, glanced at Lockhart with a slightly embarrassed look, and whispered something next to Sprout.
Lockhart became very familiar with the Oblivion Charm, tricking accomplished wizards into revealing their greatest deeds and then erasing their memories.Whenever he returned to England, he would write a book, in which he attributed the heroic deeds of others to himself. Those whose memories were wiped by Lockhart included an old Armenian wizard and a gaping witch.
And Dumbledore happened to know the two wizards whose memories were wiped by Lockhart, so he knew what happened. He believes that if Lockhart is introduced into normal school life, his deception will be exposed.
When the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor position became vacant, Dumbledore approached Lockhart and suggested that he could teach Harry, and that being the teacher of "the famous Harry" would give him greater popularity than anything else.Lockhart finally accepted the unoccupied job and helped Dumbledore solve the problem of professor vacancies.
The professors still don't know that Lockhart is far more unreliable than they imagined. When he goes to repair the Whomping Willow tomorrow, Professor Sprout will no longer have a smile on his face. Will be covered in a bunch of bandages.
If Gray had told Arnold that your kind and optimistic dean would look sulky, he would be curious to see for himself what kind of person it was that pissed her off.
After the dinner, the students were about to line up and go back to the lounge. Gray was looking for a messenger, and happened to see Percy Weasley looking towards the teacher's chair. Gray waved and he strode over.
"Hello! Professor Morris! I am Percy Weasley, the prefect of Gryffindor!" Percy said seriously, "Can I help you?"
Gray had obviously met Weasley's brothers and his little sister when he and Bill went to the Burrow, and had dined with the Weasley family a few times. Now, it felt like Percy was seeing him for the first time. Same, he gave a comprehensive introduction, which made Gray dumbfounded.
"Yes, Percy, please inform everyone that each person's crystal class needs to prepare a notebook to draw the crystal system arrangement." Gray smiled awkwardly, "It was my negligence before, not informing everyone in advance. "
"No problem, Professor Morris!" Percy stood up straighter, "I will inform everyone and prepare the notebook tomorrow!"
"Uh...it doesn't have to be tomorrow, just within a week."
"I understand, Professor, I won't delay your teaching."
"..."
It is said that Percy later urged everyone to prepare notebooks for the next day, because everyone had notebooks ready the next morning.
Gray turned his head and looked at him. He had never felt such noise in his ears. Even the talkative Arnold had to give in.
