61. Win and eat meat, lose and drink soup

At this moment, in my line of sight, Nilu did not display any emotions like “surprise” or “anger” towards Kephir, the unexpected guest who shouldn’t have arrived at such a time. To her, these emotions would be quite embarrassing.

Is it because she has a strong capacity for acceptance? Or perhaps… Nilu had already sensed that I was prepared for this? After a brief moment of astonishment, Nilu accepted Kephir’s presence with calmness. Moreover, she must have realized: the Kephir who appeared tonight was definitely not some “dragon-slaying heroine who rushed in to save a cat at my call.” The magic sword, transformed from the ice fairy Alsace, radiated a golden light, and surrounding her were the phantoms of the insight fairy Icarus and the moon fairy Iris…

Tonight, Kephir was the “protagonist” of the script; her appearance was not merely to save me, but rather… to seek out Nilu!

Nilu, you should understand what this signifies, right!?

In the next moment, Nilu’s response did not disappoint me. She did not make any extreme moves; instead, her words of gratitude accompanied the swirling black mist in her hands.

“Mr. O’Keefe, thank you very much for giving me this opportunity. Although unexpected… it’s truly you, who only allows the young lady to appear at such a moment.”

I understood the meaning behind Nilu’s words, which only complicated my feelings further.

“Therefore, as I just said, Nilu, it is not you who should apologize to me, but rather I to you.”

After all, while it is true that “the outcome of the script is ambiguous,” on the day we watched the teleportation array being set up, I did indeed deceive you.

Kefir’s appearance here was not a sudden action prompted by a “feeling of danger” but rather something she had long prepared for. After all, that night at the church headquarters, when I issued “orders” to Jader and Japa, and lamented that Jias’s “orders” were not omnipotent, I had already sensed some clues.

Thus, after dealing with Jader and Japa, I did not rush to set off with Nilu but instead took a day to be alone with Kefir. On one hand, I needed to inform Kefir; on the other… I wanted to create a “safeguard.”

I instructed Kefir to summon all the fairy powers she had gathered during my absence with Nilu, simply put: to be fully prepared and then set out to find Nilu and me, waiting for our return.

If Nilu’s recent series of unusual actions were merely my illusion, and she had no intention of doing anything to me, or if I had successfully persuaded her to abandon the thought of taking me away, that would naturally be the best outcome.

If I failed to convince Nilu and she was about to take me away, everything would become dangerous and uncontrollable, just like it is now…

Then, everything that follows need not be elaborated.

As I looked on, Nilu did not respond to me again; after all, she had already sensed Kefir’s “preparation”: bringing all the fairy powers with her was clearly a sign of making a “decision.” Nilu had to respond seriously and could no longer afford any leisure.

The dark fairy Ignis—black mist was the invisible blade in her hand; the fire fairy Jias, the chaos fairy Claudilus—the flames in her eyes and the flower crown atop her head were her way of casting magic; the wind fairy Magnus—serving as a solid defense, transformed into the black robe draped over her.

Like Kefir, Nilu was now in a state of complete readiness.

Was it coincidence, or was it inevitable?

Was it luck, or was it fate?

Perhaps, it was all of it…

All these coincidences and inevitabilities, luck and fate, drove the arrival of this moment, for I knew: in the script, Nilu and Kefir, the protagonist and the BOSS, would ultimately face each other with their full strength at some point for the final decision! No one could interfere! No one could intervene!

Though I was utterly unwilling for this moment to truly arrive, and though I could hardly imagine: that their reasons and purposes at this moment were because of me! But… this was an unavoidable “proof.” Since no one could avoid or stop it, and even the script would not provide me with a final answer, only a haze and chaos remained! Then, let Kefir and Nilu, let them make their decision!

Just like in every script’s conclusion, where the protagonist and the BOSS must come to an end, let me await the outcome this time!

“Miss, it’s not too late to have second thoughts. Once the ‘agreement’ begins to be fulfilled, it cannot be undone.”

Under the bright moonlight, Nilu smiled at Kefir.

“Are you afraid, Nilu?”

“How could it be? After all, this is the fairest ‘opportunity’ placed right before me. If the final proof shows that you and I think alike, that he is merely a useless being relying on his ‘prophecy’ about you for strength, then I will take him back without a shred of guilt. Disguise is just a glamorous facade, but in the end… it will be stripped away.”

“Then let me prove it to you in the simplest way: you are just a madman interfering with us. He has never belonged to you, and I have enough power to protect him. You should let go of those boring thoughts, Nilu!”

“Not quite, Kephir.”

In an instant, Nilu’s attitude towards Kephir shifted.

A mere change of a few words brought about a world of difference!

“He has always belonged to me; you are the one who took him away. I thank you for everything you did for him before, but now… it’s time for a change.”

“!”

“You wouldn’t believe that, would you? Not even Mr. O’Keefe himself would believe it. So, I am grateful to him for giving me this opportunity. Just as you, Kephir, said, I will use the most primitive, the most direct, and the most irrefutable result to prove that I am right, Kephir.”

With that, Nilu waved her hand, and the wind that rose before me forced me to retreat to a safer distance.

If possible, I would rather this moment not come; if it must come, I hope that the “decisions” required by Kephir and Nilu involve a more “grand” and “epic” conflict, rather than a stinky man. But this moment has arrived, and even by a twist of fate, it has been “prepared” by me…

So let me bear witness; no matter the outcome, I will accept it.

Kephir and Nilu fell silent. For a moment, the air around us seemed to freeze and stagnate, the moonlight casting a soft glow over the night, providing the perfect stage for the two women, leaving me as the sole “audience,” with only their presence in my sight. Regardless of height or merit, I would not show favoritism because of my relationship with Kephir, nor would I harbor disdain for Nilu’s identity. At this moment, I could not influence either of them in the slightest, for this was their “final proof.”

In the next instant, light and shadow intertwined.

This volume is nearing its end, but it is not finished; rather, it is approaching an important plot point.
