Hogwarts: Wizards of Eternity
#68 - Taking a long detour can sometimes be a shortcut
Three-Dimensional Theory.
The dimension here doesn't refer to the three dimensions in physics, where a direction vector is added to a two-dimensional plane.
Instead, it refers to the Self Dimension, Medium Dimension, and External Dimension.
In Roger's theory, 'self' is the Self Dimension, things that 'self' can influence are the Medium Dimension, and things that can't be influenced are the External Dimension.
To put it more vividly.
Roger's will can control his body, so the body is Roger's Medium Dimension. The body can make sounds, so sound is also Roger's Medium Dimension. Sound can influence another person's actions, so that other person is also Roger's Medium Dimension.
Even if Roger can influence stock prices, the ups and downs of the stock market are also Roger's Medium Dimension.
However, Roger can't influence phenomena like 'the sun shines,' so the shining sun is the External Dimension.
Everything that can be interfered with is the Medium Dimension, but the intensity and precision of the interference vary.
Similarly, the difficulty of drawing a bow is completely different from the difficulty of hitting a target a hundred meters away.
Because you can control the trajectory of the arrow, but you can't precisely control it.
Medium Dimensions also have levels.
Nourishing and strengthening the Self Dimension with the Medium Dimension, constantly acquiring new Medium Dimensions, transforming lower Medium Dimensions into higher Medium Dimensions, and the Medium Dimension encroaching on the External Dimension—this is what Roger wants to do.
"...This is too weird."
After reading halfway, Dumbledore didn't understand why Roger was making such a roundabout argument.
Dumbledore looked at Roger with a puzzled expression: "Is there any point in doing this?"
"You don't need to bother with this... dimension thing at all. Couldn't you just say you're using magic to strengthen your body, using magic to control everything, and finally improving the precision of control?"
Hearing Dumbledore say this, Roger couldn't help but sigh.
He knew it.
His theory was a bit abstract, and many people would find it difficult to understand at first glance.
"This has to start with a phenomenon I discovered before."
In fact, this part is written in the last section of the book, 'How Life Evolves,' but since Dumbledore asked about it, Roger explained.
Then Roger told Dumbledore about how he had noticed, from Hagrid's creation of the green-skinned mushroom beasts, that a large amount of human thought gathered together could affect magic.
Through the development of the Radiation Curse, he had completely verified this point.
Roger tentatively named this phenomenon Alaya Magic.
Later, embarking on the path of magic, he thought about how he could become 'change' and accidentally thought of the existence of Alaya Magic.
"If you re-cognize everything using 'Self,' 'Medium,' and 'External,'"
"You will find that every advancement in human civilization and wizarding civilization is caused by changes in the Medium."
"Humans possess 'fire' as a new, interferable medium, and wizards possess 'magic' as a medium."
"Through the medium of language and writing, thoughts can transcend time, allowing humans to continuously accumulate each of their advancements."
"The more thoughts about the world accumulate, the clearer human understanding of the world becomes, the more things they can interfere with, and the External Dimension shrinks."
As he finished speaking, Roger looked up at the dazzling streets and the dazzling Muggle technological civilization outside the hotel window: "Until humans learned to use 'mediums' to fill the gaps in their 'self'."
"Using microscopes to replace the narrow vision of the naked eye, using mathematics to replace vague cognitive logic, using computers to replace brains that cannot evolve for the time being."
"Lightning, which was originally an uncontrollable External Dimension, has become a high-level Medium Dimension at will."
Roger turned his gaze back to Dumbledore and continued, "The reason why wizarding civilization has made so little progress has always been because our 'mediums' have never developed much. For thousands of years, we have been struggling with magic, with little effect."
"Magic is our foundation, just like boiling water, throwing stones, and telling stories are the foundation of Muggles."
"Muggles have already advanced to the second stage, and we should also advance. We also need 'electricity,' 'microscopes,' and 'computers'."
"We need an energy that is more stable and can be freely controlled by our will than the overly idealistic magic. We need eyes that can see the world more clearly. We need a computer that allows our thinking to evolve to a higher realm."
At this point, Roger paused: "Magic is a miracle of the mind, like Expelliarmus, which 'disarms' something you sincerely believe will harm you. It is a conceptual spell."
If someone used Expelliarmus on a strong, bare-handed criminal, it might cause terrible damage.
"If the Three-Dimensional Theory is embedded in people's cognitive system, perhaps we can develop magic that casts spells on the concept of 'dimension'!"
Roger raised his hand, gesturing to Dumbledore: "Headmaster Dumbledore, look."
Dumbledore looked over and saw Roger stroking his fingertips, with tiny electric arcs flashing between his fingers from time to time.
"You should feel it, right? I'm not using magic."
"After completely reconstructing my nervous system, I have a little ability to influence nerves with my consciousness and, to some extent, manipulate bioelectricity. This current is very small, but it is indeed under my control."
This is not the simple electricity storage and discharge of an electric eel. Roger can control it very precisely.
"It doesn't seem to have any meaning. A spell released by any small wizard is more combat-effective than it, and in other aspects, it can't compare with the magic's wonders at all."
"But it implies a possibility that we can directly interfere with more, just like using vocal cords to release mechanical waves and using lungs to manipulate airflow to some extent. Interfere with something that, like magic, can affect all things."
"In addition to magic, we can actually directly manipulate other energies with our will."
"If we can directly cast spells on 'dimensions,' perhaps we can skip the 'process' and directly turn those 'mediums' that we originally couldn't control into our new 'limbs'."
"Constantly acquiring new mediums, constantly using magic to turn these mediums into high-level mediums that can be moved at will, and then..."
If this step can really be done, then Roger can start preparing for the next step.
Which is... Dimensional Reduction.
When everything can be interfered with by Roger, the dimension will only have the Self Dimension and the Medium Dimension left. All 'movement,' all changes, I am in it.
I am the change itself.
If one more dimension can be reduced, then everything is me, and I am everything!
Dumbledore heavily rubbed his eyebrows, sorted out his thoughts, and roughly understood the purpose of Roger's roundabout argument.
"So, if I understand correctly, you want to create a new kind of magic by changing the way all beings perceive the world, and then use this magic..."
"To create a 'second magic' that can be controlled by wizards, and let the first magic nourish the second magic."
"Finally, use the 'second magic' that can be accumulated and understood by us to break the upper limit of wizards' power and life forms. After evolution, the mental power of wizards will also become stronger, and in turn, the 'first magic' will also become stronger."
This method is somewhat similar to Muggle science fiction, inventing AI, AI deducing the gene map, creating gene-adjusted humans, gene-adjusting Muggles to have higher wisdom, and the more intelligent adjusted Muggles invent stronger AI, in a cycle...
...Can this thing work?
Dumbledore was momentarily unsure.
